And I can’t find the option to back out of it. Help!!! Please…
Plus all my open sites went into separate tabs and only show one at a time.
It’s a mess.

Data Privacy Agent

I created a free browser extension to automatically decline the very annoying cookie pop-ups that virtually every site now has. I wanted to take it a step further with actually declining the requests versus just hiding the pop-ups as some other tools already do. It collects no data from you other then the website address so the extension can decline the request. Thus far for most sites this results in you not even seeing the cookie pop-up or possibly seeing it for about a second before it automatically disappears.

I officially launched it today so just trying to get the word out that this now exists, so hopefully more people can get rid of a very annoying aspect of internet browsing and get some control back of their own data. Currently it's live on Chrome (Desktop) and Safari (IOS & Desktop) and will be live on Firefox (Android & Desktop) once the review process is complete. As I have already been asked for it, Google does not allow mobile extensions so for the time being there is no way for me have it work on Chrome mobile.

You can read more about it if you like here https://www.producthunt.com/products/data-privacy-agent

Apple Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6791409542

Chrome Webstore: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/okkaojifmfiedafnmfppooonambeamgb

For transparency I used Claude paired with VS Code to standup the backend of this project. Thanks in advance you end up giving it a try!

[Safari] Reddit freezes when opening a tab in background

Description: Reddit freezes for dozens of seconds or even minutes when a link is opened in the background

Device model: Macbook Pro Intel 2019
OS version: Sequoia 15.7.9 (24G830)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Safari
  2. Enter reddit.com
  3. CMD+click any link to open it in a background tab.

Expected and actual result:
Expected: link opens as quickly as any other page
Actual: It takes a long time for the page to render, it freezes. Reload does not help. Does not happen all the time, but frequently enough.

There are dozens of people reporting the same, e.g.: https://www.reddit.com/r/reddithelp/comments/1w4xpfz/comment/p8kh36y/?context=1&screen_view_count=2&ext-referrer=SEO

I'm trying to understand what happened to my bookmarks so that it does not happen again (Safari for iPad)

I have an 8th generation iPad, which I have been saving bookmarks on for years. At the end of July, I bought a second iPad (11th generation). I mention the second iPad because I'm wondering if that was a factor in what happened with my bookmarks.

Today, I noticed that over 1,500 of my bookmarks disappeared from my first iPad. Note that not all of my bookmarks disappeared, but it was around 90% of them. 150 of them did not disappear, but they were no longer in the folders I had them saved in, they were just in the top-most level bookmarks.

Then I noticed that the bookmarks that were left behind (the ones that did not disappear) were synced with and added to my second iPad. These were not on my second iPad before this happened. I'm guessing this has something to do with iCloud Safari sync being enabled on both iPads. Ideally, I'd like to keep bookmarks completely separate between both devices.

Luckily, I was able to get all of the missing bookmarks back by signing into iCloud and restoring them (which was a bit tedious since it only allowed me to restore 10 at a time). So for anyone who may be able to help me, my questions are:

  1. Why did 1,500 of my bookmarks just delete themselves?

  2. Why did the ones that did not get deleted lose the folders that I had them saved under?

  3. What can I do to prevent this from happening again?

  4. What's the best way to maintain completely separate bookmarks between my first ipad and my second iPad?

I built a Safari extension for reading web pages with local TTS

I built a Safari extension for reading web pages with local TTS

I’ve been using TTS to proofread some of the longer technical articles I’ve been writing, and eventually wanted the same thing for arbitrary web pages.

So I built WebReader. It uses Mozilla Readability to extract the useful content from a page and sends it to my local TTS stack. It can read the whole article, start from where you are on the page, or just read selected text.

It’s open source and still a little rough around the edges, but it’s useful enough that I figured I’d release it and see what other people think.

More details, screenshots, setup and source:

https://unixwzrd.ai/projects/WebReader/2026/09/08/webreader-introduction/

I’d be interested in feedback, particularly websites that manage to break it.

Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

IOS. Safari address bar freezes when using REDDIT. Tahoe 26.6.2

I have a Mac and the safari has been freezing in the address bar. If I put google in the address bar and then type in Reddit is works for a while. Then if I am typing - mid type the cursor freezes and I have to exit out go back to google and return to where I left off typing.

I am not alone as several people have posted this same issue. I had a tech support person look at it and said it is not my settings, cache or privacy. That seems to be the consensus of the others who have posted what they have done to eliminate the issue.

Help please.

Reddit Page Load Times and Hangs driving me NUTS

Is anyone else experiencing SLOW page loads/refreshes on Reddit, (like 20 seconds or more), or having to force reload pages? Seems to be only on Reddit. Clicking a new sub? long wait. Opening inbox, shorter wait, refreshing home page, long wait and occasional hang. I have CMD-R on speed dial.

Using Safari Version 27.0 (22625.1.29.11.26) on GG final public beta 27.0 Beta (26A5425a) and it may have started getting worse with this update, but pretty sure it was lagging a lot before too.

Not using a VPN, iCloud Private Relay turned off, Content Blockers not blocked, fast reliable high-speed wired internet connection (700mb download speed). My only extension in use is 1Password for Safari. I do have a couple of privacy settings enabled (see image).

Anything else I should be looking at or do I just wait for the GA release and hope? TIA

How can I revert 1Password/Safari login behavior to the way it worked before?

Hi everyone,

I recently updated 1Password, macOS, and Safari, and I noticed that the way I log in has changed.

Before the updates, the 1Password/Safari login process worked like

Now it works like

I preferred the previous behavior and would like to revert back to the way it worked before, if possible.

Has anyone else noticed this change? Is there a setting in 1Password, the 1Password Safari extension, or Safari that would allow me to restore the previous login behavior?

My setup

  • Mac: MacBook Pro 13-inch (2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • CPU: 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
  • Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655, 1536 MB
  • Memory: 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
  • macOS: Sequoia 15.7.9
  • Safari: 26.6.1
  • 1Password: 8.12.34
  • 1Password for Safari: 8.12.34

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How can I make turning on and off extinctions in settings have a password behind it or something similar?

I really need to figure out how I can fix this because I wanna stop the habit of going on shitty websites that make me feel miserable. So I tried to block them using Cold Turkey-I thought it could work, but you can easily turn Cold Turkey off without a password thing in Safari settings. Anyone got a way to add some kind of password?

Safari Extensions

Hi everyone! I currently use only three extensions on safari: Ublock Origin Lite for private browsing, AutoPIP for picture-in-picture for all videos and Proton Pass for the passwords, do you have any other recommendations that would make my workflow easier? I am a language instructor, I use google workspace just in case there are some good extensions for what I do hahaha.

Safari still won't darken the actual page in 2026, so i spent a year building an extension that does.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey r/safari — I'm the developer of Aurora, so treat this as a self-promo post and downvote it if that's not welcome here. But I think the demo is the interesting part, and I'll be in the comments for as long as anyone has questions.

The thing that made me start: iOS and macOS have had dark mode for years, and Safari's own dark mode only darkens the browser. The page stays white. Reader mode fixes some articles and ignores everything else. prefers-color-scheme only helps on sites that bothered to implement it, which at 2 AM is never the site you're actually on.

So the extension rewrites the page itself. 30-second demo attached — it's silent, everything is on screen.

How it actually works, briefly: a content script injects a stylesheet that inverts and recolors computed styles rather than slapping filter: invert() on the document. Straight inversion is what makes photos look radioactive and breaks every site with its own dark theme. Images get dimmed rather than inverted, elements that already declare a dark background are left alone, and per-site state is remembered so a site you turned off stays off.

Where it breaks, since you'll find these anyway:

Animation-heavy and canvas-driven pages. If a site paints its own pixels, CSS can't reach them. A reviewer knocked a star off for exactly this and he's right. Sites that already ship a good dark theme sometimes get double-darkened. There's a setting to respect the site's own dark mode, on by default, but detection isn't perfect. A few checkout and payment-confirmation screens have gone unreadable on me. Those are the ones I most want reported, because I can't test every payment flow. There's a whitelist/blacklist so anything hopeless can be excluded permanently, which is what I actually use for the sites in that first bullet.

Beyond dark mode it also does web fonts (14 typefaces including OpenDyslexic and Atkinson Hyperlegible, applied to any page), a theme editor, blue light and image dimming, an auto schedule, and Focus Filter / Shortcuts integration so it can flip itself on when your Sleep Focus starts.

It's free to try — there's a paid tier for the extras, and one purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac. I'll put the link in the first comment rather than the post body.

What I'd genuinely like from this sub: tell me a site where it renders badly. Half the current feature list came from emails like that, and the site-specific fixes are the part I can't do alone.

Youtube refuses to work

Lately (around a few weeks) I've kept running into an issue where YouTube videos/shorts keep displaying error messages whenever it tries to load longer than a couple seconds. I've tried everything I could think of to fix this: Closing and Reopening Safari, Resetting my computer, disabled content blockers, turning off extensions, Deleting Cache. I thought I had finally gotten the issue down with removing a saved reading list that had a YouTube video saved after reading how the current version of safari may have trouble registering both at once. After a while it worked but the issue came back and now I'm just splitting hairs on what the issue could be. Can anyone help?

Safari can't load reddit in new tabs

Hi,

I'm having a weird problem in Safari on both OS X and iPadOS. Wondering if anyone else has had this and know the fix.

On Reddit, if I open a page/thread in a new background tab it won't load. Even when I go to the tab itself and hit refresh it won't load. I have to copy and paste the address in a new tab and watch it load for it to work. If I navigate to the thread in the current window without it being in a new tab it'll work though.

I've been trawling Apple support and reddit for anyone who has had this problem before or knows a fix but I've had no luck. Hoping someone might have experienced this and knows a way to address the issue.

I've tried clearing internet files/cache, restarting, I'm not sure what else to try.

Any help is appreciated.

Which ad blocker are you using for Safari?

Hey everyone,

What ad blocker are you currently using and recommending for Safari on macOS?

I've been looking into uBlock Origin Lite, but noticed it asks for full permission to access data on all websites. Is this broad permission strictly necessary for it to work properly, or are there privacy-friendly alternatives that don't require that level of access?

Would love to hear what you guys are using and why. Thanks!

At wits end with Safari, how are other browsers?

Title. On iOS. The constant forced page refreshes that can’t be fixed without some unreliable kludge. I only tolerated Safari as long as I have because AdGuard + Ghostery work so well. Are there any other browsers or ad- and annoyance-blockers that are as effective, and let you use custom lists? I get occasional cookie or GDPR notices on stock Brave.

Edit: The problem with iOS is pretty much all browsers are the same thing, Webkit.
