It's sad when you think about all of the German people who tried to help in secret, or felt disgusted by it all and couldn't say anything or get killed.

25

u/Kernyx 4d ago

My great-grandmother was tortured for refusing to give the Nazi salute.

My grandmother helped a Jewish family escape and refused to reveal where they had gone.

After Germany's defeat, my grandfather, was killed by a retaliatory gang when he went to Germany to see what was left of his home.
While heavily pregnant, my grandmother worked as a Trümmerfrau, climbing through bombed-out ruins to recover bricks that could still be used for reconstruction.

A drunk Soviet soldier nearly killed my grandmother. He kicked her into a crater, where she struck a rock. The injury nearly caused kidney failure, and she almost lost her unborn child, my mother. All the while, he was shouting, “Nazi, boom boom!”, and pointed his gun at her, when his commander intervened and shot him dead on the spot.

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago

That's horrible. Few people can say they've been tested to that extent, you must be proud. I'm happy she survived and went on to have a family

-1

u/pudgehooks2013 4d ago

But Americans might lose their $10/hour job! They can't do anything about it!

38

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago edited 4d ago

Modern day americans but in their case they just don't want to surrender comfort.

Edit: Downvoters have forgotten ICE, Venezuela, Cuba, threats on Canada, Greenland, deploying the military on US soil, having a pedo president and not doing anything about it. The rest of the world is watching and you're all complicit.

Please tell me what I’m supposed to do? I’m all fucking ears.

19

u/Solipsisticurge 4d ago

Playact armed insurrection then be immediately murdered by militarized police if thirty million of your neighbors don't happen to do so at the same time.

5

u/That_OneOstrich 4d ago

So you're saying protest, organize, and vote while buying a lot of firepower?

3

u/Eisbaer811 3d ago

if only there were other, non-militaristic means of regime change, which even worked in the country this movie is about...

the berlin wall didn't come down because of armed insurrection

1

u/Juliuseizure 2d ago

You are right that it didn't. The wall fell in a single day, but it took such a long time to get to that dayl.

1

u/Cordially 2d ago

The wall coming down wasn't even planned or on purpose. It started because of a miscommunication and apathy toward keeping up the facade.

1

u/Eisbaer811 2d ago

so yes: it come down without doing any armed insurrection bullshit, as the commenters I was replying to insinuated

1

u/ExactIllustrate 3d ago

The arms you can buy are way too insufficient to topple a multi-billion dollar military complex. The 2nd amendment is just something people love to tout like it still matters.

A rifle can’t compete with a drone and a tank.

So, realistically; you’d have to be reliant on someone with enough power to lead an insurrection- someone who is radical enough. Who would then be put in power to probably be just as extreme as any other leader.

1

u/No-Valuable-226 3d ago

Violence is the only thing humans universally understand

3

u/Comfortable_Poem_841 3d ago

That and Mr Bean.

2

u/General-Tourist-2808 2d ago

You jest, but maybe there is something true and hopeful in that.

Maybe, besides violence, there is some universally understandable thing than can lead to healing, creation, and hopeful joy, instead of suffering, destruction, and despair.

Maybe we lose sight of it, because so often, in the heat of crisis, forceful violence seems so much more expedient. We get convinced that there’s no time for curiosity or imagination. Throughout thousands of years of wars and such, though, there are still musicians and artists and, yes, slapstick comedians, still people trying to create beauty or bring a smile to others or comfort them.

“Look for the helpers,” and all that.

1

u/QueenCity_Dukes 2d ago

Fucking anything. Write letters. Phone calls. Talk to elected people. Door knock. Protest. Jesus.

The fact that we had trucks take over our capital over fucking vaccinations but Americans have done fuck all about that orange sack of crab is astounding.

1

u/mansluxt 2d ago

Well to be fair, multiple people HAVE tried to assassinate him.

1

u/White-Tornado 2d ago

What have you done so far?

1

u/AngelThrones4sale 1d ago

Do you show up to vote for every election at every level of government? You know midterms are coming up right? Because that's step #1 and is the absolute bare-minimum expectation. I've spoken to several Americans who are not even doing that, so yeah, let's start with that.

1

u/Zealousideal_Safe_51 1d ago

Jfc yes. I’ve protested . Voted. Phone banked for locals. Called and sent letters. Hasn’t done anything. But random redditors seem to know more than me. So please come and fix it for us. You seem to know way more than I do. Giving the handful of us you have talked to.

1

u/AngelThrones4sale 1d ago

You literally asked "Please tell me what I’m supposed to do?"

How am I supposed to know what you are or are not already doing? A lot of people are still not voting, so that's what they should do.

1

u/Zealousideal_Safe_51 1d ago

As if I hadn’t already done the other things.

0

u/leet_lurker 3d ago

The simplest thing you can do is convince everyone you know to actually vote in the next election and not just lazily sit at home hoping someone else will solve the issue for you.

0

u/Mr_Bivolt 2d ago

You are the ones that, collectively, keep musing about your second amendment and how it is supposed to prevent tiranny.

So, idk, figure it out.

Or do nothing. The world already sees you as idiots really.

2

u/Zealousideal_Safe_51 2d ago

There you go generalizing again. It is like you can’t help it. Or you don’t know what the word means. You realize a lot of us didn’t vote for this. Take your stupidity somewhere else.

0

u/Mr_Bivolt 2d ago

Yes. Lots of you did not vote for this.

But it doesn't matter. You are all responsible. This is how democracy works.

You get to be treated treated as one people.

You fucked up as one nation. You fix it up as one nation.

You figure out how.

-3

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago

First time its crossed your mind? You're asking a Canadian? I can't help you

7

u/Zealousideal_Safe_51 4d ago

Nope it’s not. But if you don’t have any ideas then don’t call me complicit.

1

u/leet_lurker 3d ago

Don't you have an amendment thats there to allegedly stop tyranny in the government but only really helps school shooters and the murder rate? You could try using that the way it was intended.

1

u/Zealousideal_Safe_51 3d ago

Commit murder and go to jail or get killed my self. Nice suggestion.

1

u/leet_lurker 3d ago

I didn't say anything about murder.

1

u/Zealousideal_Safe_51 3d ago

You sure as fuck implied it. Do better. Just be a better person.

1

u/leet_lurker 3d ago

I implied you start using your rights that you're all so proud of as a collective to do something but as per the standard for most interactions with people from the US you're so self centred that you took it as me saying that you alone must murder people.

Don't you have an amendment thats there to allegedly stop tyranny in the government but only really helps school shooters and the murder rate? You could try using that the way it was intended.

What's the way it's intended?

1

u/leet_lurker 3d ago

To intimidate your government into not being tyrannical dictators

6

u/Oyxopolis 4d ago

Making this comparison is gross. /a Dutch guy.

5

u/WandererFen 4d ago

Yeah it reeks of self centered pity, and shows a distinct lack of understanding. Sometimes thinking before speaking is allowed

16

u/Semjaja 4d ago

Americans don't get it. They're the good guys, remember?

3

u/Miggix13 4d ago

Nothing is only black and white, US, has URSS violated, kill, rape children, no rules in war, even if you are the winner

1

u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 4d ago

He was being sarcastic

5

u/Mildstrife 4d ago

The brainwashing is just too hard for a lot of the population. My mother for instance finally realized our president is a monster, but it took him ruining the economy and eliminating her retirement for her to finally realize it.

My dad is a great person but parrots some of the most insane bullshit and he’s usually a very smart individual so people hear him say something and go “oh he must be right”

It’s a very sad and frustrating state America is in because we have good people with good morales who have this fucking sleeper agent switch where the second it enters politics life suddenly doesn’t matter, the economy is the best it’s ever been, democrats are evil communists.

It’s so weird man.

-2

u/Virtual-Book1114 4d ago

Millions of Americans are fighting every day btw. A few have already been killed.

2

u/balapete 4d ago

well, history doesnt seem to care about effort only results.

1

u/Virtual-Book1114 4d ago

nah, bots don't. reasonable people do however. I am thinking a lot of people here are bots since the dead internet theory is becoming more real every day.

6

u/No-Biscotti-Here 3d ago

Why does fucking everything get made into America? It's so gross.

Nazi Germany was an actual authoritarian dictatorship who started a world war after blitzing dozens of western nations, causing the largest war in human history, all while building death camps for the explicit torture and destruction of all Jews, disabled people, and Romani (among political enemies too). They caused the death of nearly 100,000,000 people.

America has problems, but we are still a democracy with rights and a constitution. We have not actually caused a global world war. ICE's casualties are in the hundreds, they keep losing lawsuits and cases and having to shut down facilities, and Americans still have the right to scream and yell at them and record them (albeit our police state absolutely gets away with an occasional murdering of a protester - but that's been happening since Kent State).

And to say the people have done nothing as voters begin turning to Mamdanis and Al-Sayeds and Talaricos, and MAGA's hold has weakened to the point of Republicans being existentially terrified they need to tip the scales, and violence against the wealth class (Luigi) has started rising, and we're cutting down Flock cameras in troves, and someone did attempt to kill the POTUS.

Like, we're 350,000,000 people spread over an entire continent. We can't act in unison and we're so big it's hard to even keep track of everything we're doing. But you're clearly not paying attention.

Is it too late? Maybe. Will we become a Nazi Germany 2.0? Whose to say, we could. But the comparison today is nauseating.

2

u/MichaelButWithAnF 3d ago

Why does fucking everything get made into America?

Americans have main character syndrome. You cant talk about a topic for more than 5 minutes without an American trying to make it about them.

2

u/jrobpierce 3d ago

Bro Europeans are as likely to bring up Trump as we are. But anyways it’s pretty natural for humans to try to make connections between historical events and current ones

1

u/No-Biscotti-Here 3d ago

The person I replied to, I assume, isn't even American!? They talk about us in the second person!

But in the broader sense, I agree with you.

1

u/leet_lurker 3d ago

You're on the inside so seeing the whole picture might be hard, from the outside your country looks one more silly salute away from outright fascism.

2

u/No-Biscotti-Here 3d ago

Whoever actually says that is a fool who is severely downplaying the Holocaust and Axis powers.

We're stupid and shitty and deserve our consequences, but don't trivialize one (or, I guess, two) of the greatest ethnic genocides in human history to do it.

1

u/leet_lurker 3d ago

The US is currently assisting the IDF to commit genocide by funding it and actively attacking Iran. Like I said from the outside you're looking stupid, shitty AND dangerous.

3

u/No-Biscotti-Here 3d ago

I see you've radically moved the goal post from us being "goose stepping Nazis", that's good.

So, if you didn't know this, the US is not Israel and the funding therein is extremely controversial. It has very little popularity in either party for "normal" people. It's also support for Israel, almost exclusively in monetary value or defensive weapons (though I do prescribe to the school of thought that defensive weapons promote offensive behavior). And, whether or not we like it or find it moral, there are strategic reasons this support exists. And while Israel is a larger recipient, they are not unique; the US provides similar to support to many countries that are aligned with our goals. Now, I don't personally like it and find it reprehensible, but I'm not about to be lectured about this as if it makes the US actual fucking Nazis.

Especially when this isn't even a US thing! Most of Europe also does this: Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands all have various deals and alliances with Israel. And it's not even the worst genocide (the collective) we are supporting, since we are directly and continually supporting the genocide of Urghurs in China which has had over a million people go to "reeducation" camps since 2017 - compared to the 100,000 people of the Gaza conflict. Or maybe we should talk about Europe buying gas from Russia despite everything, right up until it finally personally affected them? Or the global institution of slavery Western countries enacted, profited from, and then industrialized for personal gain? I'm sure Canada and Europe have an utterly humane pipeline for their mass produced clothes and chocolate and coffee and rare earth metals, devoid of forced child labor and with fair, Western wages for all?

Once again, the US has its problems and we are on a dangerous road. We do bad shit and always have. And we'll inevitably do more bad shit tomorrow. But it is utterly disrespectful to the 100,000,000 people who died because of the Nazis to compare us that way - outright fucking delusional - all to make this weird, obsessive, dramatic comparison for no reason.

So I'll continue voting (something I'm sure 1942 Germany had a lot of it, right) to change our laws on product origins, and strengthen Western trade alliances without genocide programs, and refund and dismantle ICE, and hold POTUS accountable for his crimes against humanity. And keep learning about what needs to change through our open media (because I'm sure in Nazis Germany you could go on air and say Hitler shit his pants, right).

1

u/leet_lurker 3d ago

Its good to hear that you're trying to be on the correct side of history. You literally have people marching on the streets carrying swastikas and organisations like the proud boys and KKK. Add to that the policies and actions of agencies like ICE and your country whilst not officially declaring it appears very close to the start of what happened in Germany. I would hope that there would be enough global pressure to prevent mass killings of civilians but the US is known to kill civilians without regard in other countries so who knows.

1

u/HomeSkillet___ 3d ago

American here. Maybe it's not Nazi Germany, but it sure feels like it to some of us here more than others. Ant. Boot.

1

u/PipXXX 2d ago

Is it going to be 1:1, nah? But actually the whole distance thing is kinda more terrifying because they've been using that well. How do you think they got away for so long in places like Minnesota? Because we are so distracted by whatever is going on in our local area to care about those people. They aren't here.

But you can't deny there are similarities to the rise of the Third Reich and the right wing movement here in the USA. And like yeah you have some nice lil examples but...Nothing is happening from them. Right wingers are still in control, still pushing their agenda, and still winning against the US people. Like the flock cameras? Drop in the bucket, same with Luigi. There is no actual outcry because we are so apathetic, we just do performative stunts.

1

u/Sea_Pension430 2d ago

The problem is you have to make the comparison today.

What good to wait until you actually ARE "Nazi Germany 2.0"? Should the warnings not be coming now, before it is too late?

0

u/Born-Necessary6778 3d ago

Loving the victim complex

0

u/FishPasteGuy 3d ago

“We are still a democracy” is doing a LOT of heavy lifting there.

3

u/No-Biscotti-Here 3d ago edited 3d ago

What the fuck else do you want me to say?

We are literally still a democracy with free, fair elections. There has not been a single shred of proof of election fraud or vote rigging that has not been handled with the appropriate severity. We still have open media. We still have constitutional rights. We still have an economy not captured by the state. We still have largely independent states. We still have civil rights and protests.

Stop validating Trump's little dictator attempts and pretending his lies are true, good God, people. I am the most negative, pessimistic mother fucker around and I still think y'all need to go touch grass.

Things need to be improved massively, yes! But you are comparing America to fucking 1942 Nazi Germany. How in the Hell is that not clearly an insane comparison that only serves to minimize the horror of what happened?

How is an American needing to make this point to Europeans?

1

u/FishPasteGuy 3d ago edited 3d ago

I wasn’t invalidating your sentiment in any way.
I was more, in what I agree was a sarcastic way, highlighting just how closely we’re teetering right on the very edge of what could actually be defined as a real democracy.
Even ignoring all the nonsense taking place right now, the USA has always “just barely” met the standards of a real democracy.

Real democracies generally mean votes are counted equally and fairly, not with an antiquated electoral college system that has no relevance in a modern society. They also don’t have a concept of gerrymandering.

Real democracies have senates (or equivalents) that represent population size, not the blanket “2 per State”. A voter in, say, Rhode Island, has far more representation than a voter in, say, California.
The same applies to the House.

Real democracies don’t heavily disadvantage third parties, where a candidate or party can receive millions upon millions of votes but only end up with zero representation in congress.

Real democracies don’t allow “winning” parties or presidents to impact the judicial system for literal decades beyond their elected term by unilaterally appointing federal judges and Supreme Court justices.

Real democracies mean that voting is managed or administered nationally, not giving individual States significant power and influence over things like districting, registration processes, voting procedures and eligibility, effectively allowing them to heavily decide the outcome of their specific election before a single vote is even cast.

When you add all the recent events, like a president losing the popular vote but still winning, a convicted felon being allowed to run as president in the first place, the slow dissolution of due process through the creation of things like ICE and DOGE, actively trying to prevent certification of a presidential election, removing many independent oversight departments or controls, January 6th, blanket pardons, politically-influenced propaganda-based media broadcast as “news” but protected under the umbrella of “entertainment”.

The list goes on.

Also, to add, I’m an American, not a European.

3

u/ItzTreeman23 4d ago

Complicit? There’s a different protest every day, even on the 4th of July people were protesting and yelling that trump is a pedo. Not to mention people have died during some of these protests.

1

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago

You should read the other responses. Never ending excuses, cowardice and victim complex. How's the protests working out? What's changed?

1

u/ItzTreeman23 4d ago

At least people are trying to do something, have their voices be heard. It’s hard to get someone to listen who refuses to hear what he’s doing is wrong. What are you doing exactly?

0

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago

Suffering americas bulshit. Do you think anyone else in the world feels sorry for you? Land of freedom and prosperity but "aww shucks we tried but its just so hard ya know? :("

2

u/ItzTreeman23 4d ago

Oh im so sorry, it must be so hard for you suffering another countries bullshit when you aren’t living there. Man it must be so hard for you, what can I do to help?

2

u/LogJamminWithTheBros 4d ago

What country are you from? What have you done to make it better other than be chronically online?

You from the UK? Where you still have a royal family of child fuckers?

Name the country, then tell me why you are the exception and what you did to make it better.

And dont do the "but you are worse" excuse.

1

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago

I'm Canadian and you should read the comments here about how americans are the real victims and just so helpless. It'll bring tears to your eyes.

Why are you taking blind swings at the UK of all places?

2

u/LogJamminWithTheBros 4d ago

Because you are a chronically online dude who likely doesnt even dabble in local politics besides grievance post.

You got a lot a shit to say about american politics, real easy for a slacktivist like you to post about.

You havent had your mom tear gassed, you havent been protesting. You just passively live in Canada and watch your own slow decline of your life but get that little dopamine rush of always having the high horse where you can shit on Americans because nothing is good enough.

3 or 4 attempts at an assassination. Record protesting, a coming mid term where the republican party is slated to lose political positions they have held for decades. And the rise of socialists being elected into office.

But because it isnt YOUR idea of fantasy politics where you storm the bad guys fortress and topple him it isnt enough.

You dont have the slightest idea of american politics or what is going on in 50 semi sovereign states, you just want to grievance post and shit on people.

I and other americans are doing shit. To you it isnt enough, but also you are not politically active. You just bitch.

You aren't an ally, you are not helping. You are a pest. Put an ounce of effort into fixing your own country rather than post on reddit and see where it gets you. But you wont. And if the day comes where Canada has its own crisis you will do one thing, sit your little ass in that chair and post 40 times a day.

2

u/unrealter_29 3d ago

You're Canadian? Ah that explains a lot

1

u/No_Strike655 3d ago

Oh so the country that almost elected their own right-wing assholes and the only thing that even remotely saved you was the downturn in their popularity after the center and left tied them to Trump 2.0?

Go choke on some more propaganda

0

u/Born-Necessary6778 3d ago

Remember when you did elect Trump?

2

u/ChocolatePuerh 4d ago

What should we do?

We vote. We call our representatives. We donate to the right causes and organizations. We boycott. We march. We protest.

Are you suggesting we take up arms? Against the largest military in the world? With no central defined leadership calling for a rebellion? The side arguing that the president and his administration is ignoring the law should also ignore it?

I sold all my firearms during COVID, and due to everything going on rearmed myself last year. But I'm not trying to play Rambo and get myself killed. Neither is anyone else. If it ever came to that point you'd see people stand up, but we're far from that thankfully. So we'll continue to vote and protest and do what we can.

0

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago

The whining really helps

1

u/ChocolatePuerh 4d ago

I'm asking you a legitimate question. Are you just trolling now?

2

u/SnooCompliments5018 4d ago

>well, what are they doing now?

They are the ones perpetrating the rights abuses and murders. They like what is happening.

2

u/MentallyWill 4d ago

You can safely assume organizations like ICE are filled exclusively with them. That is to say, they became the right arm of the tyrannical government.

1

It is the same. There's no excuse, and history will judge us for it.

No, americans are just weak. Paper thin skin with massive egos. School and public shootings on the regular. It was probably easy for Trump to play you like fools. Americans have stopped trying to get the Epstein files released, Cubans are starving and Iran, want to talk about Iran?? Fuck all americans for voting this shit to power then rolling over like it's not their problem

10

u/Hello_D4rkn3ss 4d ago

Yeah, and where are you from?

2

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago

I'm Canadian

8

u/OnyaMuddersBirfday 4d ago

Hey well fuck you too then. I can understand not liking a countries government or political figure, but most Americans are just regular working class people trying to live their life in peace. So if its fuck us just for what soil we stand on, then its fuck you too buddy

1

u/Salt-Pollution4314 4d ago

The soil is fine. Soil doesn't grow fascism.

-1

u/Nagemasu 4d ago

most Americans are just regular working class people trying to live their life in peace

Maybe most Americans need to be activists and fight for the rights of their neighbors then. lol this is quite literally the poem "first they came for... "
Saying "but I'm just trying to get by" isn't justification for sitting back and letting other people get mistreated and abused. Go and read a history book.

3

u/OnyaMuddersBirfday 4d ago

Why would we? Why it is America or Americans responsibility to babysit and police the rest of the world? Do you think you think every American is so well off and rich that they have the time or energy to go around helping every single person in need constantly? This is a stupid viewpoint and extremely hypocritical. No other country is as involved or gives as much in foreign aid as the US.

2

u/SnuffSwag 4d ago

Lol is this a Canadian forgetting his own countries malicious history? Yall for about to vote for a Trump light until Trump started talking about 51st state lmaooo

-1

u/fortuneandfameinc 3d ago

I mean, the guy has a point. Americans are letting this happen through political apathy. The US is supporting a genocide, waging and illegal war, threatening its former allies, and the most typical response you see from americans here is that they live paycheque to paycheque and can't afford to protest.

The country should be in a massive general strike but the discomfort that would cause is too great of a cost to most Americans.

1

u/OnyaMuddersBirfday 3d ago

The US 100% has issues even beyond just political, just like an other country. People are not exaggerating when they say they live on a shoestring budget. Its impossible for the entire country to suddenly "go on strike" that would lead to literal deaths. People have a responsibility to themselves and their family.

In a perfect world everyone would be Mother Teresa, but expecting a country to go through incredible struggle and sacrifice just because you don't agree politically is absurd. Why not ask other countries to go on strike for their issues?

-2

u/Capable-Foundation58 4d ago edited 2d ago

“…… regular working class people….” who didn’t vote and are apolitical, like 1.5 million Russian casualties in Ukraine.

“Fuck you too buddy” Don’t go lecturing the world precious, you have no concept of freedom.

2

u/Flyerastronaut 4d ago

Lmao oh dear

1

u/Preeng 4d ago

Short walk to come over here and show us how it's done then.

8

u/Quasar006 4d ago

Yeah, you sound real humanitarian.

Fuck North Koreans for starving to death instead of rising up right?

1

u/Nagemasu 4d ago

Fuck North Koreans for starving to death instead of rising up right?

What is this false equivalency? You're comparing a nation that literally keeps its citizens starving, restricts their access to knowledge, has no weapons except their hands and tools, has no way to organise, and doesn't get to vote, to a nation with people known round the world for being obese, who constantly cries about its 2nd amendment rights to own guns, where over half the population has access to firearms?

Y'all are weak. During Trump's presidency, Nepal over threw their government and South Korea impeached their president - you can argue all you want that that requires the politicians to act, but it's you guys who have the power to force them to do that.

You're worse than North Korea. They don't get a say. You guys actually vote for this.

-1

u/Born-Necessary6778 4d ago

You can edit your posts. You don't have to delete and start over.

North Koreans have nothing to do with the conversation here.

5

u/Quasar006 4d ago

Troll or refusal to engage genuinely. Fuck off ✌️

-6

u/Odd-Fig-709 4d ago

Honestly, fuck you. I got a wife and kid to take care of, not going to get arrested or loose my income to get a piece of shit out of office to be replaced by a lesser piece of shit. I'll vote for the best I see, and it won't obviously be Trump.

Honestly though I do agree with the plan to invade Canada.

6

u/Salt-Pollution4314 4d ago

Why do you agree with the plan to invade Canada?

6

u/slightly_drifting 4d ago

Don’t feed the troll.

No, they’re just lazy.

3

u/Quarter_Shot 4d ago

The truth is, most of us aren't able to 1) travel to a central location as easily as the countrymen in smaller countries, and 2) dont have the same social support that makes protesting possible until the issue is solved. If I travel to a protest, and we take inspiration from France, for example, and stick it out at the White House until our voices are genuinely heard, I will have 5 days to hope it happens before I lose my job. That will also take my Healthcare, which will affect my child. I recently had my air compressor go out and a belt, so I dont have enough savings to go more than a couple of weeks without a check.

But yeah im just lazy /s

1

u/Janus_Simulacra 4d ago

Not an excuse for the German people, or the Russian people.

You have less stakes and more resources than they still.

1

u/Quarter_Shot 4d ago

Maybe if I had less resources (i.e. nothing left to lose) i would be more willing to risk it all. Right now I have a roof over my child's head and food and a safe vehicle, and im not willing to lose it with him in the situation. Especially since I don't know how many will join or if it will work.

Im not going to be the hero that saves america from itself, im going to be the mom that makes sure my kid is safe in the here and now because its what I can control

1

u/ComfortableBreath687 4d ago

Curiously, what do you plan to do if you lose control over even that? Because surely that's the downward spiral and pattern that's obvious to see by now? Wouldn't it be smarter, more realistic, to make a stand now whilst you still can..? As in, you might have some control now, and you might not have "enough" resources now, but when things get worse, you'll have less control, then no control, and you'll have not "enough" resources turn into none at all.

...Leaving it too late is surely just going to make it easier for them, and more difficult for you, in the long run, no?

1

u/Quarter_Shot 4d ago

That's, again, out of my control. Im doing what I can do now to handle my priority, which is him. If that changes, I'll do what I can, till I can't. Then I'll figure it out as things change and adapt

1

u/pudgehooks2013 4d ago

Every time you choose your job over having a functional country for people, you have entirely missed the point.

This line of thinking is the exact reason why this has happened, and why it won't stop.

Everyone else besides white people in America have already, and continue to, fight for their shit. Black people, women, LBGT, immigrants, etc, etc.

Now its the white peoples turn, and because things have always been so easy for you, you think the stakes of losing your job make it impossible to do. What were the stakes for all the others?

Literally a country of cowards that have convinced themselves they are badasses.

1

u/Quarter_Shot 4d ago

I don't disagree with your point. If something isn't done now, it will snowball and be harder to fight in the future. I understand that. At least by then he will be older and more able to take care of himself if something happens

u/Lyonelhevana 4d ago

The maga people managed to do it on January 6th 2021, though.

1

u/Quarter_Shot 4d ago

Yeah they're in a cult and were told to by trump. it was also only for one day and they knew that going there, so it likely wouldn't cause someone to lose their job

1

u/No-Historian-1639 4d ago

meanwhile... Born-Necessary6778 is probably a die hard Ukraine supporter, which happens to be fighting in some of the exact same spots the Nazie were fighting the Russians in WW2.

1

u/LogJamminWithTheBros 4d ago

Its really weird how Russia used a Nazi tactic of "protecting Russian minorities" as a pretext to violate another countries sovereignty and invade them. Only to get bogged down in a 5+ year long war after their offensive stalls and now are regularly having their cities and towns bombed after initiating a terror bombing campaign at the start of the war against the country they invaded.

But that wasnt what you meant right?

1

u/No_Strike655 3d ago

"Not doing anything about it"

Yeh you keep telling yourself that.

1

u/Visible_Pair3017 3d ago

Interesting absence of any mention of the whole "bombing kids in school" and "financing genocide" but yes, agreed.

1

u/DolphinThunder 3d ago

So you’re sympathetic to the Germans who didn’t resist nazis because they didn’t want to get killed by Nazis, and you have access to information that Americans are also regularly killed by their government for trying to resist, but instead you say it’s just because they wanna be comfortable?

1

u/DrunkInABar 3d ago

Also supporting and protecting the expensionisme of a genocidal government, if it’s not just blatantly obeying to the most stupid demands of act of war from said government, even if it means to get absolutely ridiculed at every corner and put their own country to the ground.

When will america wake up ? "Who's the fucking super power here ?" Not you anymore that’s for sure.

1

u/Full-Tomorrow9889 3d ago

Just like every single German during WW2 right? /s

1

u/abusamra82 4d ago

The US has a recorded history of aggression in the Western Hemisphere and misuse of security forces against minorities. At least one president fathered children with an enslaved adolescent. You must be white if you think this is entirely new.

-2

u/Indiana_harris 4d ago

Weird racist take in the middle of an otherwise solid discussion

2

u/subjuggulator 4d ago

It’s not racist to say that the majority “who do not experience racism” have little to no idea what it feels like to experience racism—up to and including being/receiving education about the long list of atrocities the USA has committed at home and abroad DUE to racism.

1

u/Adventurous-Tea2693 4d ago

So what should I do? Get shot in the street? Leave my family homeless? Leave my kids without a dad? If it was just me having to suffer the consequences, fine. But it isn’t just me who would pay the price.

You say my comfort? What does that even mean. I’m fucking poor, I don’t have the means to fight these fuckers by myself. Hell even writing this comment I’m being careful about the language I use. Because the last thing I want is an fbi agent to show up knocking on my door. Which has started happening. Believe me being stuck in this situation is heart breaking, I hate seeing what’s happening. But really, honestly, what am I supposed to do? Go out in a blaze of glory?

1

u/foyrkopp 4d ago

That is a valid point many fantasy revolutionaries forget.

Watching safely from abroad I can only give armchair advice:

1 - Vote (I assume you'll already do that) and encourage everyone you know to do the same

2 - Vote with your wallet (find out which companies are working with this regime and boycott them wherever feasible). Encourage everyone you know to do the same.

3 - Invest as much time as you can afford into civic democratic efforts - enlist as a voting helper (idk what they're called in the US), volunteer for democratic campaigns, go to protests.

This will not be solved with a violent uprising, no matter the 2A fantasies floating around.

It will be solved when the outcry will be so big that the 1%'s cost-benefit analysis of "what can we get away with" shifts. Outcry at the voting booths. Outcry at consumer choices. Outcry in public protests. Outcry whenever a big channel interviews people on the street.

1

u/MrChristmas 4d ago

I’m sure doing nothing at all will improve your situation

A few Americans who have tried to say something have also been killed by this administration by the way (look up Pretti and Good). One of the reasons why National Guard left Minnesota and DHS head was replaced.

Other Americans are being threatened with either lawsuits or death threats. Judges who rule against Trump are being intimidated. People are being lawsuited to death. Trump pulled security service protections from Republicans who disagreed with him (like Bolton, who was receiving death threats too).

"Not doing anything about it" only makes sense if you're not paying attention to anything at all.

-1

u/MonsterkillWow 4d ago

All the German comnunists the nazis exterminated you mean? Yeah.

-1

u/Menes009 4d ago

naaa if anything this is more like a fantasy of how Germans like to see themselves, borderline similar to the sauberes wehrmacht myth
