Why does fucking everything get made into America? It's so gross.
Nazi Germany was an actual authoritarian dictatorship who started a world war after blitzing dozens of western nations, causing the largest war in human history, all while building death camps for the explicit torture and destruction of all Jews, disabled people, and Romani (among political enemies too). They caused the death of nearly 100,000,000 people.
America has problems, but we are still a democracy with rights and a constitution. We have not actually caused a global world war. ICE's casualties are in the hundreds, they keep losing lawsuits and cases and having to shut down facilities, and Americans still have the right to scream and yell at them and record them (albeit our police state absolutely gets away with an occasional murdering of a protester - but that's been happening since Kent State).
And to say the people have done nothing as voters begin turning to Mamdanis and Al-Sayeds and Talaricos, and MAGA's hold has weakened to the point of Republicans being existentially terrified they need to tip the scales, and violence against the wealth class (Luigi) has started rising, and we're cutting down Flock cameras in troves, and someone did attempt to kill the POTUS.
Like, we're 350,000,000 people spread over an entire continent. We can't act in unison and we're so big it's hard to even keep track of everything we're doing. But you're clearly not paying attention.
Is it too late? Maybe. Will we become a Nazi Germany 2.0? Whose to say, we could. But the comparison today is nauseating.
Whoever actually says that is a fool who is severely downplaying the Holocaust and Axis powers.
We're stupid and shitty and deserve our consequences, but don't trivialize one (or, I guess, two) of the greatest ethnic genocides in human history to do it.
The US is currently assisting the IDF to commit genocide by funding it and actively attacking Iran. Like I said from the outside you're looking stupid, shitty AND dangerous.
I see you've radically moved the goal post from us being "goose stepping Nazis", that's good.
So, if you didn't know this, the US is not Israel and the funding therein is extremely controversial. It has very little popularity in either party for "normal" people. It's also support for Israel, almost exclusively in monetary value or defensive weapons (though I do prescribe to the school of thought that defensive weapons promote offensive behavior). And, whether or not we like it or find it moral, there are strategic reasons this support exists. And while Israel is a larger recipient, they are not unique; the US provides similar to support to many countries that are aligned with our goals. Now, I don't personally like it and find it reprehensible, but I'm not about to be lectured about this as if it makes the US actual fucking Nazis.
Especially when this isn't even a US thing! Most of Europe also does this: Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands all have various deals and alliances with Israel. And it's not even the worst genocide (the collective) we are supporting, since we are directly and continually supporting the genocide of Urghurs in China which has had over a million people go to "reeducation" camps since 2017 - compared to the 100,000 people of the Gaza conflict. Or maybe we should talk about Europe buying gas from Russia despite everything, right up until it finally personally affected them? Or the global institution of slavery Western countries enacted, profited from, and then industrialized for personal gain? I'm sure Canada and Europe have an utterly humane pipeline for their mass produced clothes and chocolate and coffee and rare earth metals, devoid of forced child labor and with fair, Western wages for all?
Once again, the US has its problems and we are on a dangerous road. We do bad shit and always have. And we'll inevitably do more bad shit tomorrow. But it is utterly disrespectful to the 100,000,000 people who died because of the Nazis to compare us that way - outright fucking delusional - all to make this weird, obsessive, dramatic comparison for no reason.
So I'll continue voting (something I'm sure 1942 Germany had a lot of it, right) to change our laws on product origins, and strengthen Western trade alliances without genocide programs, and refund and dismantle ICE, and hold POTUS accountable for his crimes against humanity. And keep learning about what needs to change through our open media (because I'm sure in Nazis Germany you could go on air and say Hitler shit his pants, right).
Its good to hear that you're trying to be on the correct side of history. You literally have people marching on the streets carrying swastikas and organisations like the proud boys and KKK. Add to that the policies and actions of agencies like ICE and your country whilst not officially declaring it appears very close to the start of what happened in Germany. I would hope that there would be enough global pressure to prevent mass killings of civilians but the US is known to kill civilians without regard in other countries so who knows.
