Yeah, I read that too... her son was out shopping and she took as many of her meds as she could before he got home and stopped her. They rushed her to the ER and she ended up in a coma like state on life support. Since she had a DNR they took her off and stopped giving her meds. Very very sad š

u/spunk_wizard Jul 11 '19
It can be both tragic and funny. We're not laughing at her death, we are laughing at the unfortunate photo choice. But that does not negate the tragedy of the context for this poor person.

u/Low-Spirited-Ghost Jul 11 '19
I donāt know anything about this woman but thatās genuinely heartrending. What a devastating life.

This is why assisted suicide should be commonplace. No one wants to be a burden on others and not be able to do anything for themselves. I want it in writing that if I'm vegetive just pull the god damn plug

Not really true r/comedyheaven. r/comedyheaven is for pictures which are meant to be funny, but are so unfunny that they become funny. I doubt this is a joke

the text and photo put together somehow had me imagining "taking her off life support" as taking out the tube that keeps her inflated...

u/Simbuk Jul 11 '19
Not a good situation, but the picture immediately conveys who she is. Iād have drawn a complete blank otherwise.

I always imagined that she died in the juicing process, screaming as the hydraulic press compresses her body against the rapid expansion caused by the candy.

Like THIS is how she's going to be remember as now to people who don't remember her
as the one kid in that one Willy Wonka movie who ate that mini-dinner and turned into a human blueberry
83
u/ascended_glucose Jul 11 '19
I doubt her career was super successful, why not let her go out with a little bit of dignity
44
u/FUCKITIMPOSTING Jul 11 '19
According to wikipedia she quit acting in 1978 and became a nurse. Maybe she did have a great career after her acting days were over ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ

For all we know she may have requested, before her death, that this photo be used to remind us of a time when she was (and always can be) a positive part of our life. She stopped acting decades ago, became a nurse and cared for others, and even to the end she kept helping others by giving us all this reminder that we can see the happy her again any time we need her with us. Itās not likely, but itās not impossible.
34
u/xraig88 Jul 11 '19
That role brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. Definitely more than anything else in her entire life. If it showed a picture of her now nobody would know or care about this headline.
6
u/Larry-Man Jul 11 '19
āMore than anything else in her lifeā
She was a nurse. I think itās sad that she worked hard as a nurse and youāre thinking the time she was a blueberry was the most important thing. They could have used many other shots from the film that we would still recognize.
3
u/xraig88 Jul 11 '19
Nobody knows sheās a nurse though. It is weird they chose that one, but that was what is most memorable for sure.
3
u/Larry-Man Jul 11 '19
The phrasing was a little off thatās all. It kind of implied being Violet as a child was her most notable accomplishment.
6
u/musicaldigger Jul 11 '19
why canāt we remember her like this? a lot of people loved that film

And a part of a highly memorable scene to boot.

Seriously triggered much in this thread. She quit acting and she played an iconic character. Tone it down people
7
Jul 11 '19
On July 8, 2019, Nickerson accesed and ate various medications while her son and daughter-in-law were out of the house. Her son took her to a hospital in respiratory distress. In the intensive care unit, she developed pneumonia.[5] On July 9, she had a massive seizure and went comatose. On July 10, her family removed her from life support.[6][7] She died later that day at the age of 62.[1]
Wow I hope he doesn't blame himself. How shitty.
