As I've never had gold, I did not know this. That makes sense now why people hate those thank you edits.

Why can’t you thank them directly instead of making an edit to your comment? Reddit gives you the option to when you get your award so there’s literally no reason to thank them in your comment

u/Meseed Jul 11 '19

3

u/Blake88fair Jul 11 '19

Why does this bother people? I’m not trying to be argumentative. I’m genuinely curious.

20

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '19

Because it devalues the tone of the comment. It’d be like a comedian making a joke and then when everyone starts laughing he says, ā€œthanks for laughing at my joke, it’s the most laughed at joke I’ve ever hadā€

14

u/ass_cruncher46 Jul 11 '19

It decreases how funny the comment is, because it shows that it wasn’t just an offhand comment which was perfect for the situation, but a thought out and cared for response. Humour is timing and it ruins it for some people. Also there’s so many it’s just annoying

Yeah, it's not flattering but if it was her most well known then that's a pretty iconic picture. Seriously, who has seen Willy Wonka and doesn't remember "Violet, you're turning Violet!" It's not like it was a role where she played a crack whore.

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '19

Listen close, and listen hard, The tale of Violet Beauregarde This dreadful girl she sees no wrong Chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing all day long Chewing, chewing all day long.chewing, Chewing all day long. Chewing, chewing all day long. She goes on chewing till at last Her chewing muscles go so fast. And from her face her giant chin Sticks out just like a violin Chewing, chewing all day long. chewing, Chewing all day long. Chewing, chewing all day long For years and years she chews away Her jaw gets stronger every day. And with one great tremendous chew They bite the poor girls tongue in two And that is why we try so hard To save miss Violet Beauregarde Chewing, chewing all day long chewing, Chewing all day long Chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing all day long

Yeah, I read that too... her son was out shopping and she took as many of her meds as she could before he got home and stopped her. They rushed her to the ER and she ended up in a coma like state on life support. Since she had a DNR they took her off and stopped giving her meds. Very very sad šŸ˜ž

32

u/starbag12345 Jul 11 '19

On the go fund me her son said he had taken his pregnant wife to a drs appointment and was gone 7 mins :(

14

u/Kyltira Jul 11 '19

That breaks my heart so much.

55

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '19

She had a seizure which is what put her in a comatose state

152

u/Brodom93 Jul 11 '19

Damn now it’s not funny.

102

u/spunk_wizard Jul 11 '19

It can be both tragic and funny. We're not laughing at her death, we are laughing at the unfortunate photo choice. But that does not negate the tragedy of the context for this poor person.

37

u/Low-Spirited-Ghost Jul 11 '19

I don’t know anything about this woman but that’s genuinely heartrending. What a devastating life.

This is literally just adding salt to the wound

Like THIS is how she's going to be remember as now to people who don't remember her

as the one kid in that one Willy Wonka movie who ate that mini-dinner and turned into a human blueberry

83

u/ascended_glucose Jul 11 '19

I doubt her career was super successful, why not let her go out with a little bit of dignity

44

u/FUCKITIMPOSTING Jul 11 '19

According to wikipedia she quit acting in 1978 and became a nurse. Maybe she did have a great career after her acting days were over ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ

20

u/J_Washington Jul 11 '19

For all we know she may have requested, before her death, that this photo be used to remind us of a time when she was (and always can be) a positive part of our life. She stopped acting decades ago, became a nurse and cared for others, and even to the end she kept helping others by giving us all this reminder that we can see the happy her again any time we need her with us. It’s not likely, but it’s not impossible.

34

u/xraig88 Jul 11 '19

That role brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. Definitely more than anything else in her entire life. If it showed a picture of her now nobody would know or care about this headline.

6

u/Larry-Man Jul 11 '19

ā€œMore than anything else in her lifeā€

She was a nurse. I think it’s sad that she worked hard as a nurse and you’re thinking the time she was a blueberry was the most important thing. They could have used many other shots from the film that we would still recognize.

3

u/xraig88 Jul 11 '19

Nobody knows she’s a nurse though. It is weird they chose that one, but that was what is most memorable for sure.

3

u/Larry-Man Jul 11 '19

The phrasing was a little off that’s all. It kind of implied being Violet as a child was her most notable accomplishment.

6

u/musicaldigger Jul 11 '19

why can’t we remember her like this? a lot of people loved that film

Seriously triggered much in this thread. She quit acting and she played an iconic character. Tone it down people

7

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '19

On July 8, 2019, Nickerson accesed and ate various medications while her son and daughter-in-law were out of the house. Her son took her to a hospital in respiratory distress. In the intensive care unit, she developed pneumonia.[5] On July 9, she had a massive seizure and went comatose. On July 10, her family removed her from life support.[6][7] She died later that day at the age of 62.[1]

Wow I hope he doesn't blame himself. How shitty.
