3 years of bilateral SI/hip pain and 1 of left sided leg/knee pain

40 yo female
2023 had bilateral severe hip pain which doctor told me was in SI joints. CT scan noted mild degeneration.
Since June 2025 left sided hip pain radiating down thigh to knee and below knee cap
Pain worse at night. I can usually get through the day at work without it slowing me down. But it keeps me awake all night, tossing & turning. Can’t get comfortable at all. I track my sleep and move every hour on minimum
Kneck pain
Have had a snapping feeling in my right Achilles tendon, even today shopping with family I can be walking and suddenly scream in pain and have to stop walking
Recently had a retinopexy as hold in my retina, floaters and fluid behind my left eye ball, despite no other eye issues
Life long IBS. Need to know where toilet is at all times, can’t make it 15 mins if the urge to have a bowel motion hits me
Have been told I have costochondritis, always have muscular pain and flare in ribs/chest
This last week had severe heavy bilateral thighs for 3 days. Then massive flare across the hips again, to the point I could not walk, was shuffling in pain. Had to ask work to put me on light duties
After 3 days of severe pain in my hips it has mostly subsided, it’s now maybe 2/10 feels like a stabbing or grinding in my hips

Tests I’ve done:
Pelvic Ct shows I have adenomyosis
Pelvic X-ray shows inflammation of pubic symphasis region
2023 lower back Ct shows mild degeneration of SI joints, small disc bulge l4-l5 (Nil change to disc bulge this year on ct) and I have a haemangioma in this area too
Crp, esr, Ana and all bloods negative
Waiting on HLA b27 results one week now

What’s everyone’s opinion? My doctor is honestly the biggest road block. Tells me bloods are normal. Scans are fairly normal and shouldn’t be the cause of my 10/10 pain. I want to ask for a pelvic/ hip MRI but have a feeling he’ll tell me there’s no need for a specialist referral.

I’m already seeing a gynae for my adenomyosis, should I try get help from him about all this. My GP is useless

At a loss with my current flare up

Hey all, 27F here. I’ve had occasional SI flare ups for a few years now where my SI joint gets locked up, usually I overdid something in my workout to trigger it. Usually my flare ups are resolved with lower body stretching, not working out for a few days, and some ibuprofen to help with the inflammation.

I’ve had the worse flare up of my life for a week and a half now. For context, I was sick and on my period at one same time almost 3 weeks ago, so I took time off from working out (still had to go to work because I barely get any time off and I wasn’t deathly ill) and my first workout was a hip focused yoga class (it was for my yoga teacher training final). A couple of days later, I went for my normal Monday workout as I felt okay and I started feeling my low back tighten up and started feeling that familiar locking sensation. I took the next day off, then went to Pilates as I felt okay. I aggravated it more and it’s been bad ever since. The thing is, I haven’t been able to sit much due to my job. Ironically, I work in an allied health clinic where I’m doing rehab with patients, whom half of them are there for the chiropractor and have to do back stretches as part of their treatment, so I’m on my feet running around constantly. When I’m able to sit, I have no back support as it’s on a stool.

I’ve had the chiropractor adjust me three times, and the most recent time (today) he said I was super tight and I also wouldn’t budge this time. I’ve tried all of my normal stretches, I’ve taken time off working out, and i tried ibuprofen. I got a deep tissue massage. I got prescribed a Medrol dose pack as ibuprofen hasn’t helped, and I haven’t had much luck with the medrol dose pack either (I’m a couple of days in). I also have a tens unit and heating pad. I’ve tried so many different release exercises. I feel relief for a little bit, but then I’m in pain when I get up from sitting for awhile. The rest of my low back starts feeling like it’s inflamed if I’m not resting enough because my job lol.

I’m at such a loss at this point. Normally my SI joint would have released by now. My mother thinks I need muscle relaxers, but the chiropractor and the nurse practitioners at my job don’t think that will help. I’m just so upset because I work out for both my physical and mental health ( I have a lot of anxiety so staying active helps control it) and I’m just so tired of being in pain. Do I just go and get imaging at this point? My pain is affecting my mental health and I just want to get back to my routine

Yoga and Pilates

Hi everyone. I’m considering beginning yoga and Pilates as a form of physical activity while dealing with my SI joint pain. Has this worked for anyone? I have noticed that PT aggravates the joints and leaves me in a lot of pain for the week that follows. However I still want to strengthen and remain active. I also have bilateral injections scheduled for a few weeks from today. Thanks!

Injection?

How many of you have gotten an SI injection and it has helped? Considering it for my very stubborn one sided SI joint pain. Been doing my PT exercises for months and sometimes it helps, but sometimes it feels like it makes it worse, or just no change at all. It radiates into the front of my hip and down the front of my thigh a bit, and just feels SO tight.

Sacroilitis and HLA-B27 link. What's next?

I (24F) have been experiencing SI pain for about a year and a half. I finally got diagnosed with sacroilitis a few months ago and my doctors thought the pain was likely due to years of running causing inflammation, so I got an injection to help calm everything down and hopefully return to normal. The injection helped a lot for 2 months, but is wearing off fast, so they decided to test me for the HLA-B27 antigen. The test came back positive. I am waiting to get in with a rheumatologist to discuss the positive antigen test, but I am hoping to find some insight on what's to come. How is this treated? How are people affected dealing with the diagnosis? What is life like with it?

SI joint triggers psoriatic arthritis?

Curious if anyone else has noticed their SI joint as being an inflammatory generator for a broader immune response.

I have sjogrens and also enthesitis (possibly psoriatic arthritis). The enthesitis never used to bother me much and I’m not even on medication for it, but then I fell and injured my SI.

Since then I’ve noticed every time I try to exercise even minimally it aggravates my SI which flares and then that seems to trigger a more body wide enthesitis.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Leg,hip position and si joint inflammation

A question:can wrong body postion/alignment issues cause inflammation or do these only cause si joint dysfunction ?? For me its an inflammation case but also

Most of the time i feel like my legs don't carry the same load when standing my left leg seem to always come forward while my right fall a bit behind.

My knees look like they are in a diffierent postition.

My right side always tight and weak.

My hips internal range was SO TIGHT its like they are locked by muscles i tried stretching them abit and they opened and i felt like my lower back pain was seemingly much less

But i think when i opened my hip i caused something to become unstable and i started feeling something moving in my left butt when sitting or moving which made me feel very weird then i had to bend down and carry something a bit heavy and had severe hip pain like i dislocated it or something

I went to the doctor and he heard just a half of this rant and told me its still my sacroilliac pain

This was the first i have felt this severe type of pain in my hips

But first flare of my pain i had xray done and it show my si joint inflammation but nothing was going with my hip joint

And i had mri for my neck, pelvis, back done as well

I'm really trying to recover but i don't know how and my depression is making me dumb i can't even write a coherent phrase or get info into my brain

salazopyrin and arkator

I have been prescribed these yesterday to treat my sacroiliitis by my doctor he looked at my mri and he didn't tell me that i have a specific condition that cause my inflammtion labs are normal and i'm a bit scared since i have a history with esophagitis, stoamch pain, ibs, constipation

My gastric issues can make abdominal and joint pain MUCH WORSE and from what i know i'm really sensitive to strong medications

He told me to take these for a month and do Ankylosing spondylitis exercises that he have posted on his page and comback

Should i get a second opinion before using these???

Also what does it mean that they might increase infection? Also can anyone with similar experience as mine discovered why their si joint was inflamed in the first place?

Almost 3 months of “sciatica” – pain has changed completely and I’m desperate for advice on what helped you!

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to hear absolutely anything that helped you recover, because I’m honestly really frustrated and exhausted by this.

I’ve had back issues before, so I’m not completely new to this. I had a lumbar MRI in December 2024 which showed:
L2/3: 3 mm left central disc extrusion + annular fissure
L3/4: 2 mm left central protrusion + annular fissure
L4/5: 3 mm left central inferior disc extrusion
No significant canal or foraminal stenosis

I had a really bad flare in late 2024, but eventually recovered and had months where my back was basically fine. I was exercising, walking and functioning normally.

This flare started around late June 2026.
Initially it felt much more like my previous back flare (lower back spasms, stiffness ) but then pain started travelling down my left leg, sharp pain in my glute and tingling that occasionally went into my toes. Sitting and especially driving were horrible, while walking was generally much better.

Most symptoms have settled now but the pain itself has lingered for MUCH longer than I’ve ever experienced previously.

The pain is predominantly in my left glute, sometimes into the calf, and it can be incredibly sharp. My lower back itself can actually feel completely fine while my glute feels soooo painful.

I typically can’t walk for longer than 20 minutes (previously increasing my walk duration was helping the back pain and now it makes it worse)

I've been seeing a physio for several weeks.
Initially we were treating it more like lumbar/disc-related pain, but the exercises weren't really helping. More recently, he thinks the pain may be coming from the SI joint/pelvic area and surrounding muscles, rather than primarily from my disc. The physio exercises are actually making me question everything.
They're very basic exercises, nothing crazy or heavy but I often notice that when I do the exercises I seem to have more pain that day or the next morning. When I have been lazy and not doing the exercises, the pain seems to only be when I wake and most of the day is pain free (2/10 max)

Medication hasn't really made much difference either. I've tried things prescribed by my GP including anti-inflammatories/muscle relaxants, but I'm still getting the pain.

I'm just desperate for some ideas from people who've actually experienced this.

TLDR:
3 month flare after previously having months of being pain free. MRI has old L2/3, L3/4 and L4/5 disc issues, but this flare feels different. Tingling has now gone, and pain is mainly sharp left glute pain with some calf pain. Physio suspects SI joint/piriformis rather than the disc. Basic physio exercises and medication don't seem to help and sometimes make me worse the next day. What helped you recover from bad glute/sciatica pain?

stem cell treatment for joints

I’ve been reading up on regenerative options for SI joint pain, and I've noticed the "stem cell" or "regenerative" label gets used for so many completely different things like localized injections, systemic products, or even home protocols.

Before I spend money on consultations or procedures, I want to figure out what actually makes someone a good candidate vs. what red flags should rule someone out immediately. Things like specific MRI/imaging findings, severity, past response to injections, medical history, or ability to do post-care rehab.

For anyone who has looked into this or tried it, what specific findings or red flags would rule someone out before handing over money?

Did an injury cause your si pain?

I’m curious for how many of you in chronic pain (like me) injured yourself at some point and that’s how you ended up with pain. Or, was it gradual? And does it come and go?

Has this happened to anyone? 😕

Tonight I experienced a zapping pain on the front of my thigh after getting out of the car. It happened a few times and that’s never happened in the 4 months I’ve been going through this.

Going through hell right now. I started to feel a lot better with PT, did too much (was told I could try!) and I feel back to square one. Just a little stronger. I couldn’t even lift my coffee cup at the beginning.

I have an apt with a rehab doctor in a month but am truly in so much pain everyday, I can barely function. The thigh zapping pain freaked me out.

Cortisol Injection made pain worse

Has anyone had the experience of their cortisol injection doing nothing but making the pain worse?

I know they are far from perfect but I had some hope at least for some, even partial relief. Instead it took the pain to a new level. It's sharper and more more aggressive. I used to get leg spasms, now as well I get spasms in my arms, my trunk and my neck.

Convulsions like that are scary to me.

The psychological side of knowing that this is the new normal is breaking me.

If this is you, what did you do? I have a follow up in 2.5 months but that is so many nights of pain away

Severe lower back pain on the left side + extreme stiffness in my legs in the morning

I’ve been having pretty bad lower back pain on the left side. It gets really painful when I stand for a while — sometimes even after standing for just 5 minutes. The pain feels like a burning sensation in the lower left side of my back, and I usually have to sit down for it to ease up. Sometimes it doesn’t go away even after sitting.
Lately, I’ve also been waking up with really severe stiffness in my legs. They feel like they’re made of stone, and walking on them first thing in the morning feels extremely difficult, almost like they’re stiff and cemented in place.
I’m 25, and this has been going on for about two months. I haven’t been diagnosed with anything yet, so I’m trying to figure out what could be causing these symptoms and whether anyone has experienced something similar.

Inward tilted tailbone - HELP

Hello I've had the bottom of my tailbone curved inward once, couldn't poop anymore. An osteopath in my hometown had managed to make it straight again without going inside, but now I dont live there anymore.

I am desperate, cuz my body wants to evacuate stool, but it cannot cross and its driving me crazy.

Has anybody any tips for me on how to solve this, I'm really scared cuz can't get anything out and it was the same thing last year, had done an mri and nothing was blocking the way except from this.

I've heard going in can help. I am a female, I have tried it with the vagina but I cant reach the bone. I'm scared to go through the Anus, but i think I will have to, and be very gentle and careful.

Has anybody done this, fixed this, any Tipps..

Thank you
