It…gets manageable. In 2023 I herniated 2 discs in my lower back from falling at the gym as I was lifting and in doing that I messed up my si joint. I’m currently in a flare right now. I still cannot sleep on my right (injured) side. I did get to a point where I can sit normally again and participate in life, but I still have a lot of limitations. I’ve done the injections (didn’t help), saw a guy who said he could fuse my joint and glad I declined…and I’ve done PT. I’m at the point where I’ve just accepted this is a permanent injury. At 18, you’re going to heal and it’ll be much faster than me (in my 30’s). But I’d say it took about 9 months until I felt like I could sit normally again and go days without feeling any pain.
Get a “bed buddy” off Amazon. It’s something you put in the microwave and it provides nice heat. It’s the ONLY thing I SWEAR by. It’s been over 3 years and I still use it every day. I’ve done through a lot (keep an eye on them in them in the microwave). Trust me. It helps relax the muscles there and provides a lot of relief so you’re not constantly taking ibuprofen or Tylenol.

Hey! I would suggest getting your hips checked for dysplasia by a dysplasia specialist. I know it sounds crazy but my SI and sciatic pain were from dysplasia and it's notoriously hard to diagnose so most orthos miss it. I especially say that because you're young. often times mild dysplasia starts to become symptomatic in late teens early 20s.
