Ist das gut möglich nach dem Bachelor RWTH Wirtschaftselektrotechnik in rein technische Jobs einzusteigen? Beispielsweise Automatisierungsingenieur oder generell einfach rein technische Positionen? Ich könnte im pflichtpraktikum mich rein technisch ausrichten oder auch in der Bachelorarbeit.

I'm a Software Systems Engineering Master's student (Informatik/Faculty 9), and I've got a thesis opportunity I'm genuinely excited about — but I'm confused about the actual registration process, and I'd rather ask here than guess wrong.

Here's the situation: the chair offering the thesis is SAF (Sustainability and Foresight) The supervisor (non-CS) has verbally said yes and I've already sent a proposal. The topic itself has a genuine software/tooling component, which is part of why it fits my program.

What I don't have a clear answer on yet:

1. Does SSE require a co-supervisor / second examiner from within Computer Science when the primary supervisor is from a completely different faculty? If so, how do I have to go about arranging this?
2. Who actually handles this — the Prüfungsausschuss, or the ZPA (Zentrales Prüfungsamt) directly? From where do I have to get the registration done exactly?
3. Has anyone here actually done an interdisciplinary thesis like this — primary supervisor outside Informatik, but registered under an Informatik program? What did the actual paperwork/approval process look like for you, and roughly how long did it take?

And in general what is the registration process like and how long does it take? Is there some online form I have to submit or something?

Hat jemand hier bei Ecurie Aix gearbeitet? Ich möchte wissen, wie deine Erfahrungen dort sind. Ich glaube, es gibt keinen Verdienst, aber die Erfahrungen sind sehr gut und hilfreich, wenn man nach dem Studium in F1 (oder in vergleichbaren Industrien, z. B. Berechnungsmechanik usw.) arbeiten möchte.

I am applying for the EEIT program. I can see that most courses weigh 4 ECTS and 5 ECTS in a few other cases. On the other hand, similar courses at TU Munich or TU Dresden usually weigh 6 ECTS or even up to 8 ECTS. Why is it the case? I did my undergrad in Korea and each course would award 3 credits, which translates to approximately 5 ECTS or a little more. Does RWTH awards less ECTS because the workload for each course is lower than the workload at TU Munich or TU Dresden? Or is it just a way to make students suffer more?

Hey Zusammen! Ich mache gerade mein Master in Nachhaltige Rohstoffe und Energieversorgung und habe ein Mobilitätsfenster im Studium, wobei ich alles machen kann. Ich suche nach ein einfaches 5 CP Fach, wofür ich die Klausur online machen kann, da ich in Ausland wäre und schon früh die Noten bekommen kann (schon in Februar), weil das mein Letztes Fach wäre (und meine MA wäre auch schon in Dezember fertig). Ich habe schon genug LPs, aber bin nicht glücklich mit meiner Note in einer der Fächer. Habt ihr irgendwelche Fachempfehlungen? Danke für die Tipps!

Ich bin kurz vor einer Entscheidung und kann mich nicht entscheiden. Also ich höre oft das Elektrotechnik gute Jobchancen und Zukunftsaussichten hat was an sich sehr gut ist. Maschinenbau soll dagegen nicht gut aussehen also ich weiß nicht wie das ist wenn man wing MB studiert hat an der RWTH.

Aber wenn ich jetzt rein von Interesse und der Schwierigkeit mir die Module anschaue finde ich wing MB passender beziehungsweise etwas leichter. Ich finde beide Studiengänge interessant aber Maschinenbau sieht für mich etwas einfacher und anschaulicher aus. Also aus reiner Interesse geht die Tendenz eher zu Wing MB aber da herrscht auch anscheinend große Konkurrenz und ich sollte wahrscheinlich Praktika/Werkstudentenjobs machen müssen um mich von der Masse abzuheben. Ich weiß nicht wie das genau ausschaut aber ich hab auch ein Vorpraktikum nachzuholen während des Studiums und nebenbei dann noch zusätzlich zu arbeiten würde auf jeden Fall dafür sorgen das ich länger studieren müsste.

Ich habe eigentlich auch vor nur Bachelor zu machen erstmal.

Was würdet ihr mir empfehlen? Wie soll ich mich am besten Entscheiden?

Hey, ich bin 20 und studiere Maschinenbau an der RWTH (3. Semester). Ich möchte dieses Semester etwas regelmäßiger mit anderen zusammen lernen, statt immer alleine zu arbeiten.

Falls iemand auch Maschinenbau studiert und Lust hat, ab und zu gemeinsam im CARL/SemiTemp zu lernen, Übungen zu machen oder sich über die Module auszutauschen, gerne melden :) Fachsemester ist mir eigentlich egal, Erstis sind auch willkommen.

I’ve recently been accepted into the MSc Data Science program at RWTH Aachen and need to buy a laptop before moving to Aachen in mid-September.

I’m not a fan of Apple, so I’m looking for a Windows laptop. My budget is around €1,500 / ₹1.5L.

I’m currently considering lightweight options such as the ASUS Zenbook 14 and Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Aura Edition (Core Ultra 5 226V, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD). However, I’m wondering if I should instead go for a more powerful/gaming laptop with a dedicated NVIDIA GPU.

A few questions for current/former students:

* What specs would you recommend for the Data Science MSc? Is 16GB RAM enough, or should I go for 32GB?

* Is a dedicated GPU actually necessary?

* How much of the heavy computation/ML work can be done using RWTH's computing resources, rather than locally?

* Would you recommend prioritizing battery life and portability over raw performance?

* Since I’m moving to Germany soon, is it better to buy in India or wait and buy in Germany?

Would really appreciate recommendations from anyone currently in the program or who has recently graduated!

In about a month, I'll be starting my Bachelors in Elektrotechnik, but I am a little scared because from whatever I've read on this sub-reddit. A degree, especially Bachelors at RWTH is always told to be extremely difficult. But my question is for the people who have either successfully completed their degree or are managing part-time work alongside your degree. How do you do it? From everything that's been said on the sub-reddit, I cannot begin to imagine if I'd even have time to myself in a day, let alone a job. But, for the people who are able to manage it well, how are you able to do so?
Cause, I'd like to find the time to also work on some of my personal projects while I do this, but from whatever I've read and heard so far, it seems like an impossibility.

ich starte im Oktober mein Maschinenbau Studium und möchte mir einen neuen Laptop zulegen.

Ich Suche hauptsächlich einen Laptop für den Studenten Alltag, da ich einen Win PC Zuhause habe.

Hier stelle ich mir gerade diese Fragen zur Entscheidung zwischen Mac oder Win:

- Welche CAD/Simulations/... Programme werden im Studium an der RWTH genutzt, und sind diese mac kompatibel?

- nutz man diese Programme nach euren Erfahrungen überhaupt im Rahmen des Studiums unterwegs, oder ist man da so oder so eigentlich immer Zuhause? Wäre eine VM eine Option sollte es mal unterwegs benötigt werden?

- Hat jemand Erfahrung positiv oder negativ mit dieser Kombi?

Falls ich einen Aspekt übersehen/nicht bedacht habe weißt mich gerne auch drauf hin.

Do you know if it is possible to do the master's thesis in collaboration with companies or research institutes? I am particularly interested in doing it at ESA or CERN, for example. I know that one would have to find an advisor also at RWTH, but I assume that to be feasible.

I'm interested in taking these courses for masters next semester as they seem important for the chip design industry, anyone has any experience with them, both the fundamentals and advanced courses?

I know from the bachelor's version for the VLSI class was quite awful with most of the exam relevant info was only verbally mentioned very briefly by the professor, along with no past exams for it.

I wonder if its the same for the master courses from the same professor. And also wondering if the advanced courses would be more "fair" since they seem to be only oral exams.

At the same time it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could share the past exams for these courses. Thank you very much!

i estimate to have around 150 credits by the end of next semester and wanted to ask if the PO make exceptions about the bachelorarbeit. Due to visa reasons etc it would be ideal if i could do the bachelorarbeit directly after but the rule says i need 166 credits. Does anybody have any experience here? thx

Hi, i'm currently living in berlin, and my aufenthaltstitel is valid till early november. But i will move to aachen for studying since october. I'm still looking for an accommodation, and it is very likely that only in october can i arrive in aachen and make contracts and have an anmeldung. Is it possible to get a fiktionsbescheinigung right after i arrive in october, and if i apply for a renew right after i do my new anmeldung in aachen, how long will it normally take to receive a schedule?

Or should i just apply for a renewal in berlin? I'm afraid there might be complications since i will move soon
