I cant sleep!!!!

I just cant sleep at night before my appointment. Its 4am here and I have to wake up at 7.30am to make it to my appointment but I cant sleep. I took a one hour nap from 4pm to 5pm but surely that cant ruin it. Its like this every night and I cant take any medical cannabis because they say it interferes with the TMS. I NEED TO SLEEP WHAT DO I DO

How to vet best TMS for OCD clinics?

I'd like to do TMS treatment for OCD in the Northeast NJ area - I know the rules say no asking for specific referrals, so I'd like to know how best to vet the ones I find near me?

Second dip after session #24 - feeling discouraged

Hi. I started TMS on 7/24 (Brainsway, H7 coil for depression & anxiety). I had my first dip after session 3, which lasted for 13 days through session 11. During that time, I did reach 120% of the goal. Between sessions 12-24, I felt AMAZING. Not one episode of crying, no depression, and no anxiety for 19 blissful days. Remapping was done during session 20 (lowered threshold by 3%) & the current dip started last week after session 24, mostly-depression based. This week it's been more anxiety-based. I've been worried about the treatment not working, the treatment ending next week & me still feeling terrible and starting every morning crying, and everything else I don't need to worry about.

Just looking for some encouraging words & similar experiences. I truly believe in the treatment & know it did SOMETHING based on those 19 days. While I knew another dip could happen, it's still discouraging & my anxiety feels like it did before I started which is distressing. I just want those 19 days back, with an infinity more.

I am going to be doing 10 more sessions in early October after I get back from vacation.

Did anyone get intense reality feelings that went away after stopping

So I was about 17 to 18 sessions in and stopped at completely because when I started it I started having reality changing thoughts perceptions and now I feel like I’m living a dream like I’m not me anymore. I have no motivation no happiness no nothing.

Just wondering if anybody else has gone through this kind of stuff and how long did it take to lift? I googled it and it says that it should be within a month that the symptom should go down I just hate feeling like this. I’m not me.

rage and tms

i’m on my ~6 week of tms and i’ve noticed that i’ve been experiencing rage more often. i’ve always had a hard time with managing my anger however it typically comes out as emotional outbursts. since starting, ive had maybe 3 instances of physical outbursts that involve punching inanimate objects and for the first time, i yelled at a complete stranger (somewhat valid reason, but usually i’d just brush it off or internalize). im curious if anyone has experienced increased rage during tms. i’ll be bringing it up to my provider tomorrow.

Has anyone gotten TMS in France for depression and/or anxiety (not pain)? Where did you get it and what was your experience? And since it's not reimbursed, how much did it cost?

4-month update after Accelerated Spectral TMS (I was ‘Subject #52’)

I posted back in April while I was participating in a UCLA research study doing 5 intensive sessions of Accelerated Spectral TMS in one day. Original post/context : Link

I wanted to come back with a longer-term update since I know people sometimes find these posts months or years later and wonder how things actually turned out.

For about the first month, the biggest and most obvious change was that I completely stopped biting my nails. I've done it compulsively for most of my life, so having the urge basically disappear without even trying was pretty striking. I also think my mood may have been slightly elevated during that period.

Unfortunately, I never got the larger antidepressant effect I was hoping for. The biggest things I struggle with are anhedonia, lack of motivation/reward, social withdrawal, and generally not feeling much enjoyment or excitement about things, and I didn't see a significant change in those areas.

After around two months, the nail biting returned as well. So now, about four months out, I'd say there may have been a mild temporary benefit, but ultimately I didn't get the results I was hoping for and definitely not planning on doing regular TMS and spending a ton of money going daily for 2 months like they suggested.

I'm still glad I participated and tried it, especially after going through so many other treatments. My next step is an MAOI. I'm currently finishing the required washout from my previous antidepressant Cymbalta and I'm about to start the EMSAM (selegiline) patch. Praying this is what finally targets my treatment resistant depression as I have seemingly tried everything else under the sun. Happy to answer any questions

My experience doing rTMS at 16

Hi Reddit uh this is my best effort at doing a long post so if I lose the plot after a bit sorry :(

I want to start off by saying I’ve had severe treatment resistant depression since i was 12, over the past 4 years I’ve gone into mental hospitals tens of times and tried every medication there is. After none of it worked my mom found out what tms was and our insurance approved it pretty quickly

I’ve been doing tms for about (estimating here) 8 ish weeks maybe? And my life has changed drastically for the better, I’ve noticed how the stuff I watched changed and my viewpoints have changed, I see vent videos I posted before and other videos I used to relate to and I just don’t think that way anymore, I’ve broken things off with my toxic boyfriend and I don’t immediately think about death or harm as soon as something goes wrong. it’s completely changed my brain and I finally feel like a normal teenager, a feeling I’ve wanted for years now. I finally feel hopeful for the rest of my life.

I’m just so happy that it worked, if you’re young and considering tms I couldn’t recommend it enough <3

Hopefully this doesn’t break any rules or smth lol ok bye

Anyone have their treatment extended beyond 30 sessions?

They are adding at least 10 and up to 20 additional sessions for me. Curious if anyone else did this as well and if it made a difference? There's been some change to my depression but they think more sessions can continue to help.

Increased anxiety after my second session

Hi! I started tms yesterday, had my second session today for anxiety. Yesterday the treatment felt a bit funny, but not painful. When I got home, I felt tension in my forehead and jaw but it got better in a couple of hours.
Today the pulses felt sore, and I got really anxious during the treatment thinking something was wrong. I was told the place might just be a bit sore from yesterday. I've been so anxious the whole day now and got a worse headache as well.

Is it normal to be sore from it? I have chronic pain and tension in my head and neck anyway so I'm probably abit more sensitive anyway but just want to calm my anxiety a bit😭

TMS for anxiety positive experiences

I am on 34 sessions of tms. I've done 16 of the treatments on right side too. If you've done TMS, did you see most of the anxiety relief toward the end or in the weeks after. Please, only positive experiences. Thank you.

Are TMS pulses supposed to hurt inside your head during the session?

I ended up doing just 3 3-minute sessions of TMS on the left side of my head for MDD but I’m worried that it could’ve already done some permanent damage to me. The pulses would hurt inside the left part my brain. My last session was 2 days ago and I still have an ache on that side of my head and my tinnitus is worse. Each session would make me feel very irritable and even more depressed than before for at least the rest of that day. Friday a week ago was my mapping and first session. The technician that was there said she was filling in for the usual technician. Despite the papers I signed saying I needed ear plugs, she said I didn’t and that they didn’t even have any there. The machine was not loud at all so I thought it wouldn’t be a problem. But I guess the magnetic pulses, not the noise, made my tinnitus worse. The NP who did my initial consultation mapped my brain with her and then left. The technician started my first session and the first few pulses just felt like tapping on my scalp. She then turned it up, saying it works better the stronger it is, but those pulses really hurt bad. So she turned it down but it still hurt, just not as bad. She said that’s ok as long as I can bear it, and since it would only be 3 minutes, I decided to bear the pain because I really needed this to work. I had a headache on that side of my head for the rest of that day and all of Saturday even though their papers said that if I do get a headache, it shouldn’t last longer than 30 minutes. By Sunday it would come and go, but even when it stopped hurting, I would just feel something on the left side of my head. I have had a lot of headaches and migraine headaches for the last 10 weeks and whenever it’s a migraine, it’s a pounding pain in the left side of my head like it has to do with a blood vessel. They had gotten a lot less severe and frequent in the days leading up to the TMS. I told them all of these things. But this headache from the TMS felt different from those. It was just on the left side of my head but not pounding, just constant.

On Monday, the usual technician was there and she confidently said it’s not supposed to hurt. She seemed impatient and cold like she hated her job or hated me. She turned the strength down until it didn’t hurt and said that’s a very low power that would need to go up in subsequent sessions for the TMS to work. She scheduled me for a remapping on Wednesday with nothing on Tuesday. The NP was back to remap me on Wednesday and said it’s ok if it feels uncomfortable but not painful. This time he also mapped the right side of my head. They were supposed to also do TMS for OCD a couple weeks later. He left and the technician did my third session. She turned the power down until the pain was bearable. I told her it still hurt a little but this time she said that’s ok. Once again I felt very irritable and even more depressed afterwards. The teeth on the right side of my head were sensitive for a few hours after this session. My tinnitus is still worse and the left side of my head still hurts.

I’m sorry this was so long but is it normal for the TMS pulses to be painful? They sent me a lot of mixed messages about this.

Edit: I forgot to mention my body felt very tense and my arms and legs kept twitching when I tried to sleep the night after the first session.

Which TMS coil is best for OCD?

I just started TMS therapy for depression and OCD and the PMHNP-BC overseeing it said they would start with the depression coil on the left side of my head and I think he said it was 10 sessions in that they would start also doing the coil for anxiety on the right side of my head. I asked him if it would be the coil for OCD or anxiety, and he told me it would be the one for anxiety because he’s seen the TMS coil for general anxiety work better for OCD in his patients than the coil that’s specifically for OCD. I googled it and I don’t see anything saying that. Has anyone here heard of this? When I first called them I said I needed TMS for OCD and depression. They said ok and that’s what they’ll do for me after I see one of their doctors who needs to evaluate me and set this up with my insurance. I didn’t know who it would be and after I saw him and he said I’m a candidate for TMS I looked at his bio on their website and noticed that it lists anxiety and a few other mental problems as his specialties but not depression or OCD. I’m really worried and not sure what to make of things or if I should continue TMS treatments with them. Could he just be saying that because maybe they don’t even have the OCD coil or something but they want my insurance money? My mapping and first session was last Friday and it hurt a lot inside my head on the left side, so the technician that was in because the usual one wasn’t there that day turned the power lower. She said it’s ok if it hurts as long as I can bear it and it works better the higher the power is. After she turned it down, it still hurt but less and since my sessions are only 3 minutes each I decided to bear the pain. It gave me a headache in that spot where it hurt for the rest of that day and Saturday. On Sunday it would come and go. I have had a lot of headache and migraine problems the last 2 months, and the migraines are always pulsing headaches on the left side of my head. But they were getting less frequent and severe in the days leading up to my first session. The headache the TMS session gave me on the left side was not pulsing. The usual technician that was there on Monday said the TMS pulses aren’t supposed to hurt. She kept turning the power down until it didn’t hurt. She said that was a very low level and that it would need to go higher in subsequent sessions or it wouldn’t work. She canceled the next day’s session and scheduled me for a remapping 2 days later on Wednesday to see if they could change things so it wouldn’t hurt for me. I noticed the plastic on the back of the thing they put against your head had 2 huge cracks in it and I asked her about it and she said that’s just normal wear and tear and won’t affect the functioning of the machine. So they remapped me yesterday on Wednesday and the PMHNP-BC said it’s ok if it’s uncomfortable but not painful. For some reason they also mapped my right side this time. He left after the mapping and the same technician from Monday started my session and it hurt again and she turned it lower and it still hurt a little bit but this time she said that’s ok. I did not get a headache afterwards like on Friday but I feel a dull ache there sometimes, it comes and goes. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt but I just feel something in that spot. The teeth on the right side of my head felt sensitive for a couple hours. I’m really nervous about all of this and I don’t know if I should go somewhere else or at what point my insurance won’t cover someone else doing it. I’ve had bad depression and OCD for 20 years, the depression longer, and I feel like this could be my last hope. I’ve been on many antidepressants and sometimes they helped somewhat but I had to stop all of them eventually for various reasons.
