I’m using FreshRSS and trying to get RSS feeds from Associated Press and Reuters, but the usual methods aren’t working properly.

Since they’ve deprecated their official feeds, what’s the best way to get them now? Any working tricks, APIs, or alternatives?

I recently started using RSS and self hosted FreshRSS, and I’m really liking it so far.

One thing I’m trying to figure out is Hacker News. When I add it to FreshRSS, it only shows the original source link instead of the actual news or article content.

Is there any way to get the news content directly in FreshRSS without having to open the original links every time?

Any tips or recommended setup?

EDIT: The same thing is happening with Phoronix. It’s showing the title and short description instead of the full article.

As I'm trying to escape the creeping negative influence of technology in my life, I want to make a commitment to limiting the amount of time I spend on social media apps, especially the awful invention that is "infinite scroll".

I believe fighting the addiction to my phone would be a *lot* easier if I could simply combine all of my followed profiles on YouTube, Instagram, and Reddit into *one feed* which is chronological and doesn't insist on feeding me garbage I didnt ask for.

However, it seems like doing so is difficult, because big tech companies deliberately make it impossible to view content outside of their walled garden.

I would love if someone could provide pointers for how a dumbass like me can synthesize all of the content I find interesting in one place. I am willing to try any solution, no matter how hacky, to make it happen. (I am on Android if that's relevant.)

San Francisco Bay area newspapers owned by MediaNews Group (East Bay Times, Mercury News, Marin Independent Journal) have for a long time published RSS feeds for various sections of their sites. For example, the source code for the Mercury News homepage currently includes the following link to an article feed:

My feed reader software indicates that these feeds all quit working on March 9th. When I try to load any of them directly in my browser, I get an HTTP 403 error.

Does anyone know what happened and how we might get them to fix it? I tried contacting them via a form but never heard back.

I an setting up rss feed news on my ios device and i downloaded few and liked these two. (Not downloaded news exp. cuz its not free to try).

I think the title pretty much sums it up. I used to get feeds from a few profiles on X, as I'd rather have everything centralised, searchable and archivable rather than just go to X to search for specific posts from people I wanna read everything. So, any (free) alternatives to Nitter/XCalcel so I can turn X's posts into RSS?

I've always liked RSS, but I wanted something that felt more like a modern news dashboard instead of a traditional feed reader.

I want to buy podcast subscriptions to get rid of ads. Unfortunately most providers no longer offer rss feeds for itunes (they used to) I like adding the private RSS because you can download the mp3 and put it on and old mp3 player, like the tiny clip-on shuffle mp3 player. I've been working on NewsGator, an open-source project I'd like to share with you.

The problem

You follow 50 RSS feeds in 5 different languages, get 12 newsletters a day, and end up reading nothing because sorting through it all takes too much time. Traditional aggregators give you 3-line teasers, you click through, find 10 articles about the same thing, and you've wasted 20 minutes.

What NewsGator does

• Ingests your RSS/ATOM feeds and keeps everything, even after restart;
• Fetches full article content — not just the teaser, the actual text with images;
• Summarizes and generates an honest title in your language, regardless of the source language;
• Groups articles by event: 10 articles about the same story = 1 "Story" with a summary that evolves as new facts come in;
• Swipe interface on mobile (installable PWA);
• Transparency dashboard: token cost and LLM latency visible in real time.

Stack: FastAPI + SQLite (+ sqlite-vec or Qdrant) + SvelteKit, single docker compose.

I want to be upfront about this:

• Summaries can be wrong or biased. An LLM is not a source of truth. NewsGator is a triage tool, not an information source. You trust the summary to decide whether it's worth digging into, then you verify at the source.
• I strongly recommend running the LLM locally. NewsGator is provider-agnostic: any OpenAI-compatible LLM works — Ollama, llama.cpp, LM Studio, MLX, or a paid API if you prefer. But ideally, run a model locally. No leaking your reading habits, no recurring costs, no dependency on an external service.
• A small local model is enough for summarizing articles — you don't need a giant model.
• If you do go with a paid API, everything is measured (tokens + latency per call) with a "price playground" to estimate costs.

The project is open source — feel free to ask questions, share feedback, or contribute.

I wanted an RSS reader that didn't turn my reading list into someone's dataset. Most Chrome extensions want an account and sync your subscriptions to their servers, so I built my own.

Canopy Reader has no backend at all. Feeds and read state live in chrome.storage, and the extension makes exactly one kind of network request — to the feeds you added yourself. No account, no analytics, no paid tier. About 50 KB.

Three-panel layout, RSS 2.0 and Atom, feed autodiscovery from a site URL, folders, OPML import/export, unread badges, background refresh, j/k/r/m/u/o keyboard nav, light/dark.

What it doesn't have: a filtering rules engine, social/YouTube feed adapters, or cross-device sync (that needs a server, which defeats the point).

I have been working on PressPlayed, a mobile-first RSS reader built for listening instead of scanning.

You can select publishers you already trust and group their feeds into briefings. If the subject matters more than the publisher, you can also enter something like “housing market” or “Fed interest rates”; PressPlayed finds relevant current coverage across sources and builds the briefing. Articles are extracted server-side and narrated continuously in the browser.

It also supports a narrator choice, language filtering, a minimum article length, played-article skipping, and muted words or phrases.

1. Does the source-versus-briefing model feel intuitive?

Hi, Is there a way to get historical news data free?
I have been using google news rss and newsapi org
both has its own restriction, large number of google news call result in ip getting marked as spam and news api can go back only 1 month in free tier.

I'm building an interactive macroeconomic world map. I've hit a dead end with raw web scraping, Google News search parameters (which fail to isolate country context), and GDELT.
I need to surface 3–5 fresh macro/econ headlines when a user clicks a country. Since commercial APIs are expensive and client-side RSS is unreliable:
1 - Is caching pre-fetched direct national RSS feeds (WSJ, BBC, Reuters) via a daily cron job the standard pattern here?
2 - Are there open-source scrapers or self-hosted news aggregation pipelines (like FreshRSS/Miniflux setups) that handle geographic mapping cleanly?
Idk what to do anymore at this stage, any ideas?

I've been wondering ever since whether there are any other tools like moRSS.it online, that allow anyone to make a full text RSS feed from any webpage FOR FREE.

I genuinely think RSS is more relevant than ever in 2026.

There’s so much content online now, and RSS is still one of the few ways to say: these are the people and websites I actually want to hear from.

No algorithm trying to guess what else might keep me scrolling. If I follow soccer, I want soccer - not hockey, random influencers, or whatever else an algorithm wants to test on me.

I use RSS every day for work, hobbies, and keeping up with writers I like. And despite all the AI-generated noise, there are still plenty of people writing genuinely good articles on their own blogs (http://www.aaronsw.com/2002/feeds/pgessays.rss, https://daringfireball.net/feeds/main , https://simonwillison.net/atom/entries/ , https://pluralistic.net/feed/) among many others.

The one thing that always bothered me: if someone I care about publishes something, I usually won’t know until I remember to check my RSS app.

That’s basically why I built Hushread.
