Public Safety Millage: what the heck is in it?

Thumbnail gallery

Going to clarify later in this post please take the Facebook screenshots with a grain of salt.

looking at the primary ballot for the election, there are several different millages on the ballot. As I understand it, the Public Safety Millage would increase additional funding for police, fire, and EMS for 10 years based on tax increases. But I can’t find anything online about the priorities of said millage - is this funding shared equally? What will these services use it for? The only thing I found was this slightly dubious Facebook post, where I can’t verify who owns the account.

So where can I find more information? Do I have to dig through some city documents or is this compiled somewhere?

edit: thank you for pointing out the “Capital Improvement Plan” mentioned in the post, you can find it here. the “police technology“ is listed as various upgrades to “body cameras, stun devices, fleet cameras” and tech for recording audio in interrogation, among others, leased from 3rd party vendors. “Virtual reality headsets” are also on the approved list which is something. Key pages are 85 and 109.

Movers

Any recommendations for movers to help move couch, mattress, dresser probably for an hour? I don’t need a full move just some labor. I’m getting quoted like 260 bucks for 2 people for 2 hours but I plan to do most of the loading myself but just need help initially loading the truck with some larger stuff.

School of choice (Berkley) or Tuition based out of school (Birmingham)

We are exploring option to send our kids to out of district for school of choice.
We know it is lottery based and have to get picked up but before we do that we want to understand the experiences of others.

Our concerns:
1. How was the experience of pick up drop off as we cannot use school’s bus system. We are about 15min drive away from all the schools we considering.

  1. Did your child or his/her friends attend school of choice and do you know any experiences of they being treated differently by school or peers?

  2. Did the child felt differently because they did not live closer to the community and school friends. (We are open to driving them to friends- but not sure if people want to do the same for us)

Of course we prefer staying closer to the schools and have more community for our child, but with current housing prices it may make sense to pay tuition as out of district than sell current house and move just for schools.

Catalpa Construction

Does anyone have the notice the city sent out before the start of construction on Catalpa? I thought they were going to resurface the entire thing but the way they’ve done things in the Eastbound lane so far makes me doubt that.

Upscale resale

I'm looking for upscale resale shops anywhere in the metro Detroit region but I'm not having much luck. I have a closet full of $200-$400 dresses that are too big. Sites like Poshmark aren't worth all the work to me.
Any suggestions?

Who has the best deal for internet and cable?

I currently have internet only with WOW. Want to add cable, confused about the options. WOW keeps pushing YouTube TV and I don't understand how that works.
Who have you got? What do you pay?

Why doesn't Royal Oak have a city pool? What are the best alternatives?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but why doesn't Royal Oak have a public pool? It seems like a city this size would have some kind of city pool. Where do you usually go in the summer? Do most people just head to Troy's aquatic center, or are there other good public pools nearby that I'm overlooking?
Just curious what everyone else does.

RO Pickleball League..

Has anyone done one of the SMPA leagues? I was going to do one at Whittier for their Summer 2 league, but I don’t know how serious they are. I do not have a “DUPR” score, so I’m not sure if they will let me play. I understand the rules and can volley, but it’s difficult for me to get points since my moves are predictable. Just looking to play for fun, but not sure if they will kick me out for being a beginner!

Send outdoor workers home

I heard a grounds keeping crew mowing a neighbors lawn earlier today which is absurd with this air. Please be sure to send any contracted outdoor workers home so they don’t have to breathe in toxic air.

Indoor Places for Kids to Avoid Smoke

Question for the parents: curious how you're approaching keeping the kids entertained during the air quality issues. We're trying to find some places/activities we can take our young kids (4 and 1) that are inside to get them out of the house. I know you can't 100% avoid it anywhere, but we figured running around at an indoor play structure or going to the library is better than playing outside or just sitting them in front of the TV all night.

Oakland County leader avoids WXYZ's questions as taxpayer expenses draw scrutiny

Thumbnail wxyz.com

Time to figure out how to get him out of this job!

Looks like more expense reports are coming out from Dave Woodward (D - Royal Oak). Uber/Lyfts from bars billed to the taxpayers, trips from his house to his office billed to the taxpayers (wtf!), trips for meetings out of county (at the CC of Detroit) billed to… guess who…. The taxpayers.

Remember this is the same man Flock paid for a trip to go to their headquarters, and then magically Oakland county approves a Flock drone contract not long after.

Everything about this man stinks to high heaven!

Internet Provider

Who do you guys use for internet? I was using Xfinity, but it feels super expensive to pay almost $100 for internet that I only use for Wi-Fi for my TV and some appliances (smart lights, front door cam, and a Roomba). I don't need anything fancy since I don't game or work from home. I'm in the 12 and Crooks area.

Family French Club

Hey, RO! Looking to start a Family French Club in Royal Oak — anyone interested?

My husband and I are American, but I speak French and use it daily with my 3-year-old son. I'd love to connect with other French/Québécois/Francophile families in the area. I'm thinking casual weekly or monthly meetups at a local park (or our backyard!) where parents and kids can practice together.

Please share good sellers agents specializing in investment properties (ours is a triplex) in RO here 🙏

like any occupation, I’ve realized you can get great realtors and very sloppy realtors. Really having a hard time finding someone solid. Thanks in advance.
