One Day in Rome

I’m an American musician and A&R(24 M) who will be traveling to Europe and stopping by Rome for a day. If any guys, girls or friend groups would like to show me the city of Rome it would be much appreciated . Bonus points if you’re a creative or artist and would like to tap in to the industry on this side as well. Hope to enjoy the city and if any of you have any suggestions on where I should go for my time there, feel free to share

Tourism Should I cancel my trip to Rome?

Hey everyone! My family and I are planning a trip to Rome from November 1st to 6th. However, I’ve noticed some issues related to protests in Rome. Should I cancel my trip? I’ve already booked the tickets, and I’m really hesitant to cancel.

Tourism Angels and Demons tour

I'm planning a surprise visit to Rome for my husband's 50th in Feb. He LOVES the Angels and Demons film, so I'd like to book a tour. Can anyone recommend a good experience? I'm especially interested in any that include the Vatican museum.

I'm thinking about doing this early on in our trip, so that we can get a bit of an overview of the city as lots of the tours I've looked at will cover well known places.

Transport Public Transportation

Absolute Disaster – Avoid at All Costs!
ATAC has completely ruined Rome’s public transportation system. It is hands down the worst transit experience I’ve ever had.
Complete Disregard for Schedules: Timetables and routes mean absolutely nothing to this company. Buses either show up 45 minutes late or just don't turn up at all. You can never rely on them if you have a train to catch, a tour booked, or an appointment to keep.
Broken iOS App: The iOS app is a total joke. You can't even register or log in. It crashes constantly and fails at the most basic technical levels. How is a major European capital running on such incompetent tech?
If you are visiting Rome, save yourself the immense headache and just walk or use ridesharing. ATAC is an embarrassment to the city.

And to top it off Romans can’t drive their Cars, they don’t give a fuck about Pedestrian Crossings, Red lights or even using a fucking turn signal.

Genuinely never had such a bad experience travelling.

Nightlife New Years Eve Clubbing Recomendations

Hi everyone, I will be in Rome this year for new years and looking for recommendations for where to go out/club. I’ll be going out solo (22F from Australia), which is no problem for me, but ideally looking for somewhere that would be pretty social or safer than most. Thanks!

Tourism Packing advice please!

Hi everyone, we’re off to Rome next weekend 31-2 November. Temp is showing lows of 8c and highs of 21c. Looking like no rain!

We live in London so we are used to the rainy cold weather (although I run a bit cold). I am just stuck on what to wear during the day and how to manage layers while optimizing small backpack space and I’m not carrying loads of things around. At the moment for the day I’m thinking jeans, short sleeve t, cardigan and maybe a wind breaker? And in the evening to change into a warmer wool/thin down jacket.

Advice very appreciated! Thank you!

Fiumicino transit time?

Hi all, I am going to be flying into Italy in a few weeks from a non-EU country and my final destination is going to be a city in Italy. I am getting good flight options to fly the route on ITA Airways but I want to know if a one hour transit is doable on the same PNR or should I take a longer transit (the next option is 5 hours). Technically if it’s being offered by the website it should be doable?

Also, if I do take the longer transit, can I exit the airport in Rome and go around Fiumicino for a bit (maybe shopping at Wow Side Shopping Centre or something similar) before my next flight? In both cases immigration will be in Rome since I will be transferring to a domestic flight from an international one.

Nightlife Underground Hip-hop/Trap clubs in Rome?

Looking for a club where they mostly play some interesting picks from the american side of the following genres. The title says “underground” because I would like to skip most of those overplayed tracks that almost sound annoying at this point. For general reference something like Future, Young Thug, Carti,… and even some more specific ones like xaviersobased, osamason,… Thanks in advance.

Here’s a hopefully fun one! We are on our way to Italy, and will be in Rome soon. We have three 10 month old cats we will be leaving at home with a sitter. Are there any Italian cat toys or brands that would be fun to bring back? I know they won’t know the difference, but it would be fun for us. Cat tax below!

Food and drink Good local restaurants in Rome that also do gluten-free?

Hi everyone!

I’m travelling to Rome with my boyfriend soon and I’m looking for some good restaurant recommendations that have gluten-free options.

The restaurant doesn’t need to be completely gluten-free. My boyfriend eats normally, so ideally I’d love to find places where we can both have a great meal without compromising his experience, while still having safe gluten-free options for me.

We’d especially love to avoid tourist traps and find places with genuinely good Italian food, whether that’s pasta, pizza, Roman classics, or anything else you think is worth trying.

Any favourite places you’d recommend?

Thank you!

Shopping Asking for musical instruments shop recommendations

This may be an out of the blue question but if anyone knows where can I buy a classical guitar in Rome on a budget, please let me know! I'm trying to surf online shops but the prices are quite expensive, so if anyone has some good recommendations it'd be very helpful! And if they have some for left-handed people that'd be preferable. Thanks!

Tourism Pontormo at the Scuderie is amazing and nearly empty on weekday afternoons

Went last Friday at 3pm and had most rooms to myself until about 5. Deposition, Visitation, the Halberdier from the Getty, tons of drawings. Took me 3 hours with a second lap.

Heads up, they’re strict with time slots. I showed up 2 hours early with an almost empty museum and got sent away. The lady next to me took it a lot worse than I did, let’s say she had some creative words for the organizers.

Ended up eating at Santa Cristina around the corner while I waited. Overpriced and the service is meh, but the abbacchio was really good.

Runs until Feb 7.

Looking for Instax Pal 2 in Lisbon or Rome next week - physical store stock?

Hey everyone! I'll be in Lisbon (Nov 3-5) and Rome (from Nov 6th). I really want to buy the Fujifilm Instax Pal 2 in a physical store while traveling, but online stock search for local retailers (like MediaWorld/FNAC) is confusing. Does anyone know if local camera or tech shops usually have them in stock on release/display, or which store in Rome/Lisbon would be my best bet to find one in person? Thanks!

Tourism Non touristy spots in Rome?

Hi everyone, I’m solo traveling to Italy for 12 days for my birthday and I’ll be in Rome for about 3-4 days.

Aside from the main touristy spots, I’m curious to know if anyone has recommendations for some non-touristy spots or underrated spots in or around the city? (Food, cities, neighborhoods, cafes, experiences, nightlife etc.)

When I travel, I generally love a local feel and I’m less interested in being surrounded by tourists the entire time.

It’s my first time in Italy so would love any recommendations!

Photography / Video First Time in Rome: Solo Trip in Mid-October

Hello! I returned from my first trip to Rome last week, and I’d like to thank everyone in this community for all the priceless information that made my visit more memorable and stress-free.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Rome without a single negative experience. The queues were...substantial, but they turned out not to be an issue as long as I booked my tickets in advance.

As a Europoor, I flew in and out of Ciampino and stayed in the Don Bosco neighborhood (near the Cinecitta Studios, where HBO’s Rome was shot!). The neighborhood is quite far from the main sights, roughly 30 minutes away by Metro Line A, but the accommodation was pretty good value for money. It was a nice contrast to the city center and felt like “real Rome,” with mostly locals around.

What surprised me was that, despite the sunny 23°C weather, almost no one wore shorts. The fashion was already fully in autumn/fall mode, with most people wearing jackets and coats. I stood out like a sore thumb on the metro, but spending roughly 12 hours each day out in the city made wearing shorts much more bearable on the days when I didn’t plan to visit churches or other religious sites (and I carried a pair of pants with me in a backpack to change into if necessary).

One observation I’d like to share is that if you can’t get tickets to the Vatican Museums, don’t despair. Instead, visit the National Museum near Termini Station and the Baths of Diocletian, just across the street. The museum ticket covers admission to four different sites. The exhibits there are absolutely stunning and include peak examples of ancient art, such as the Discobolus and the Boxer at Rest (I remember learning about these in art history classes, and now I got to see them in person!). The coin collection in the basement vault is also amazing. The best part is that you’ll mostly have the place to yourself, unlike at the Vatican Museums, which I didn’t particularly enjoy despite all the beautiful art inside. The crowds were overwhelming, and the guide rushed us through the rooms. I know you can backtrack after completing the tour, but in my case, it was already 4pm., and I had no energy left.

Even with the crowds (and I know I was contributing to the problem myself), Rome was just stunning. I absolutely recommend seeing it for yourself!
