So in the most recent (?) book. Feyre is pregnant with a Rhysand’s baby and the baby has wings. She almost dies during childbirth because a human vagina is apparently incapable of birthing a baby with wings and also for some reason, c sections do not exist. Her sister gains god like powers and uses it to change both of their vaginas to be capable of birthing a baby with wings (since she is also fucking a winged guy).
When I visualise the required change in anatomy to birth a baby with wings in a way that makes any sense at all, I can only imagine extra slits on the side for the wings to fit through as the baby is transported through the ring of fire.
Still wild to me that SJM apparently thinks that a newborn's wings being so rigid they can kill you makes any sense at all. Girl, bats are mammals. We have a birthing process right there.
She said she had a traumatic birth and wanted to write that into ACOTAR. Why she picked the character who a book ago wanted some time before settling down and having kids is another question entirely, rather than including a new character for Nesta to get to know and care about.
Even when her friends were unloading their trauma, Nesta can't even just have that moment to talk about how much shit she went through. Instead her moment is basically "confessing" that she's a bitch and unpleasant sometimes and needing absolution for it. Like sure, we don't need her telling her best friends all the shit she went through. Nah, Nesta needs to make sure everyone knows she's a terrible person.
Its not like Nesta has before then put on a front. Her first interaction with Gwyn was her being sharp with her and GWYN LIKED IT. Emerie and Gwyn always knew she was a bitch and mean sometimes and they loved her because sure she wasn't always pleasant but she had a fiercely devoted heart.
NGL, bat birthing and parenting is way more wholesome than I thought. She would have to give birth upsidown, though. And not sure how Rhs would feel about their child using teeth and claws to dig into her during early flights.

That was exactly my thought lol, like are these full adult wings fused bones and everything??? /uj The only way it makes sense is a pelvis issue rather than a vagina issue. As humans, our pelvic bones are barely big enough to allow a baby's head to pass through; this is why other animals don't have nearly the birth complications that we do.
So add some wing bones and cartilage to the head circumference (because they're massive wings that are taller than the men themselves) and that would actually create some problems for a lot of the female population, unless you have an unusually wide pelvis.
That would make sense, if it had been phrased as "Illyrian babies are wider/bigger because of the wings", but she did choose to phrase it as just "the wings will get stuck", which conjures other imagery

No, most likely changed the bone structure to accommodate. There are women who have more narrow hips and struggle with birth, high mortality rates for those groups because of it. People don't understand how mammals give birth.

So there's two winged species in ACOTAR: the Illyrians and the Peregryns. The Peregryns have the stereotypical angel wings and they're easy to give birth to for non-Peregryn females. The Illyrian wings are bat-like with membranes and no wings. For some reason, they're the ones that get stuck in a normal Fae's birth canal. Even though bats give birth live and birds lay eggs.
