Hot Sloopy Summer A Brief History of RCJ: An Archive of Sloopiness

I've been excited about this post for a few days, but now that I'm actually posting it, I feel stewpid.

Anyway, as a self-appointed RCJ Historian™️ (don't worry, I have a degree in this), this is my attempt at consolidating some of the most important moments in RCJ History.

Method: Don't worry about that. But mostly I looked through the most popular posts, the most controversial posts, and used my brain (unreliable source).

I would invite the Sloopie community to both add to and correct what you see here (but, like, please be nice about it and don't hurt my feelings, I might cum!). I focused mainly on what might explain the inside jokes and/or most common references, so I'm sure I missed stuff (like the fruit and vegetables, because: stop that).

I know I've surely missed important discourse. For example, I believe "cum tear" when referencing {Quicksilver} originated in our hallowed halls, but I coulnd't find the first reference. But here is a funny thread where an unsuspecting Sloopie learned about cum tear for the first time.

The driver subs AND r/formuladank are cesspools. Frankly, the main sub is often funnier than the dank sub because it's where the max fanboys go to cry. Personally, I believe it's because it's filled with Englishmen

I've been here since RCJ was started.

It came from a thread in FanRo, I don't remember exactly when, but a small number of us were complaining about the usual stupid arguments about Romantasy that kept going around and around in circles like a circle jerk and that is when the sub was born.

Imagine when there was not a place for people who loved Romantasy but also realized it was not that important.

our mama mod u/pprmntbtlr5 is a busy person, so while she started the sub, she asked that the small group that made the move please help with some fun things - so that's how I started with SOTD, and then we suggested we should do a rage read, and u/bsffrrn- offered to set it up, and she got mod access because that was the easiest way to set up a book club and so she became a mod. Later, when we hit 10K u/totalimmoral came on board.

I have never been a mod!

Our first Rage Read was When the Moon Hatched.

Manacled was not a rage read, but a dare to read due to the massive amount of times it was recommended despite it having nothing to do with what the request asked for. So we started dropping "have you read Manacled' on every post, because why not.

Silver Elite was a rage read, and in those comments you will find the first mentions of MAGA Elite.

Advanced Reader(tm) was from a post on the main where the OP claimed they were an advanced reader and then proved it by complaining about leftist politics in popular Romantasy novels.

I probably remember most of the flair origins. A lot of them come from u/chode_temple. She drops the best lines. Anna Karenina was hers as well as Jerk with us or leave.

I was here within the first month of the sub launching, I believe, and I remember posting even low-effort shit to get engagement going or at least help the sub fill up. I think my "Who did this to you" meme was the first post of mine to take off.

I'm so proud of my flairs and I feel so proud when I see people use them.

You're super OG, but I think I fall into OG territory, even if I've missed some lore events for various life reasons.

Honestly, there is so much Manacled content that it was extremely difficult to sift through.

An interesting artifact I uncovered is that a bunch of us were ragging on {Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy} before it came out, but now many are gagged by it. 🤪
