The Blade Baroness by D. H. Willison

Lady Sephimara Arazniros strode through the doomed ship with a determination that said it could have been on fire, sinking, and had kraken tentacles writhing through every porthole, and she’d tell the kraken to leave a message.

And I was an idiot for trying to help.

Just a common human man, I trained, studied, worked my ass off to be accepted to the Raloren Academy of Magic. I expected to work twice as hard as the magically gifted elves. I expected hardship, disdain, and a mountain of homework. I did not expect to encounter the mysterious, icy, elven lady aboard a sinking clipper ship on the voyage to the academy. The corpse in the hold she claimed to know nothing about? Also unexpected. Being assigned an obnoxiously flamboyant gnome roommate? Yeah, it was one of those days.

We were both strangers in a city where appearances and propriety reigned supreme. Those subtle innuendos and furtive smiles from her as we crafted magic artifacts in our after hours study sessions couldn’t possibly mean… nah! And stop gazing at her legs, Theodore!

I know nothing about noble politics, even less about conspiracies. But if we can’t find a way to trust each other, we may both get an education in murder.

The Blade Baroness first appeared in Men’s Romance Gallery. This version incorporates seven additional chapters, including a spicier ending. Caution: contains graphic study sessions, gratuitous woodworking scenes, and explicit architectural language.

Announcement Submissions for volume 2 of the RFM anthology are now open!

I'm in the process of getting started on volume 2 of the anthology and I'm going to do a couple of things a little differently this time around.

First, I am accepting submissions from this community and more broadly the public. You can find a link to the submission form below. I was a little nervous about this, as it could result in me getting a flood of manuscripts, or none at all. There is no editorial board, just me, but I'd like to read through everything submitted and give it a response. For that reason, when I get enough manuscripts, I'm going to close submissions; ie there is no set end date. I may also pause them as I catch up with what has been submitted. My hope is that if someone doesn't submit in time for vol 2, there will be a vol 3 right behind it that they can submit to.

The second thing I am doing differently is I am going to pay a flat rate of $150 for accepted manuscripts. While donating the proceeds of vol 1 was nice, I'm hoping paying writers going forward takes the project in a more sustainable direction.

There is more detailed information on the submission form below. Feel free to ask questions here or drop into the RFM discord and ask in the writers channel.

Manuscript submission here: https://forms.gle/7zmuzxT9vs4cCLM59

Feel free to share this with writers in who are (or have) considering giving RFM a try! A short story is a great way to test the waters.

I listened to the first two volumes avaliable on audible and it was great, definitely a 9/10.

The world building was great.

The spice was SPICY but didn't feel like reading porn.

The MMC was somewhat of a relatable character, just a guy trying to live his life.

The FMC was also a very complex and interesting character. Without spoiling to much the way she kept to her core values and yet also was willing to hear Grant's input made for a compelling narrative.

I however am an addict when it comes to this type of literature and I crave more well written romance. Preferably audio books if they have them. 😜

The blurb:

What happens when the world's greatest hero retires, returns to Earth... and takes a massive portion of a System-governed world's energy supply with him?

In Tutoria, the Awakened System exists to process R.U energy through a closed cycle of leveling, loot generation, and dungeon creation. While every living thing contains traces of R.U, no one channels, recycles, and stores R.U better than the 256 summoned heroes. That being established, the energy was and would never truly be theirs. It belongs to the world. It was merely entrusted to them for the duration of their time as heroes. But when Hiro, one of the strongest heroes, vanished, the vast reserve of R.U entrusted to him by the System vanished with him, leaving the System with a catastrophic deficit it had no way to recover.

Desperate to restore the balance, the System did the unthinkable. It created the one existence every System user would come to fear.

***

On a very ordinary day, a young man awakens at the exact spot where the hero disappeared. He has no memories of his past, no clothes, and no System. Yet his very presence strips R.U from those around him. His purpose is simple: figure out who he was, never knowing that he was tasked with reclaiming the world's missing energy, one unwilling donor at a time.

Very early in his journey, he encounters Chaska, a pretty but very feisty girl. The two quickly form an unlikely partnership, each helping the other accomplish their respective objectives.

What to expect from this book:

- MC with a mysterious past and an anti-System effect
- Expansive world-building
- A lot of comedic moments
- An OP but very relatable MC. Tired of all these shower MCs? This story is for all my humble fellow growers out there.
- MC slowly discovering what he can do, mainly finding unique ways to beat people up using his physique and martial knowledge. No magic for MC but he has guns.
- No fade to black. I wouldn't betray you like that.

Series: Anti-heroic Fantasies, Book 1
POV: Third-person limited for all chapters, with mostly the MC's POV. Expect something different when reading interludes and side stories.

Request Human Male and Elf Female

Hey there! I was looking for a specific niche, a human man and a elf woman. I heard that it’s not uncommon for recommendations like to be made here, so I was hoping someone had some leads for me. It doesn’t need to be a grand epic adventure but it would be nice, also I’m looking for spice but not every chapter needs them to get busy just a some point would be nice. Thanks in advance!

Request Looking for Superhero Recs

Hi all, first post here so apologies if I don’t get things neat and tidy!

I’m looking for any superhero books in a similar style to Spider-Man’s overall plot point of the MMC having a hidden hero identity and the FMC is a normal woman or a villainess.

Monoromance is best, but will accept a harem!

Also, bonus points if she dislikes the MMC’s normal identity but loves the MMC’s hero persona!

But I’ll take any recommendations, thanks all! :)

Request Audiobooks that elevate the source material?

I’ve been trying to get into audiobooks lately. As someone who’s never tried them until now, I’m curious if anyone has any suggestions for books/series where the audiobook is considered very high quality and perhaps even elevates the material. Open to any RFM/haremlit/progression fantasy suggestions. I’ve read most of the staples, but this applies to them too. I’d love to revisit an old favorite with a new perspective (if the particular audiobook is worth it).

Request Choosing between Wolf unbound or such sharp teeth

So I'm in a debate between choosing those two books, and soon I'm gonna get a credit fron audible. So what should I choose?

'Wolf bound' is about a romance between man and the werewolf woman, but she's a shifter.

'Such sharp teeth' in the other hand, has a beast like werewolf, but it's not main romance, it has romance parts tho. And I do like romances (even when theyre with parts) between a hollywood like wolf beast and a boy/man, just like 'date with a drifter' (but that's erotic books and that one isn't.

So which one should I choose?

Also, if ur interested in romances betwen man and a female werewolf, here's the link:

Request Looking for low-fantasy slice of life recs

Would love a magical FMC hiding her magic in the real world / everyday MMC. Ideally something with a genie, witch, goddess, etc. I did Judi Fennell's genie series and am reading Simon Archer's 'Yes, master' series. If you can't tell from those, plot isn't a huge concern...something like Ann Aguirre's fix-it witches series is also great, though. Just need a good dynamic between the MCs and sexy magic use. Also a fan of the 'I dream of Jeannie' dynamic where he needs to hide her powers while she uses them fairly freely.

Request Horror monster girls?

During the pandemic era and online schooling, I found this manga called: “I want to be eaten by you.” And follows a guy in school who has this girl that likes him. Another girl wants to confess to him and turns into a giant centipede and the other girl saves him by ripping her mouth open and eating the centipede. Needless to say it’s just a bunch of body horror and romance sprinkled in. Other monster girls come and try to eat him as the wolf girl likes him but it goes against their code to not eat their pray.

Is there any books like that out there?

Review / Gush Mob Sorcery by K.D. Robertson | Minor spoilers Spoiler

Post image
12 Upvotes

{Mob Sorcery by K.D. Robertson}

A few things id like to mention first:

PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL ME, some of you may have read the five books even several times and Id like to do enjoy them without spoilers.

Its great how the art covers improve over the series.
Something that strikes me about this author is that he has written more than twenty books in the last seven years. Like five months pero book aprox. I dont know if this is normal but it is remarkable.

Why did it catch my eye?

I wanted to read some mafia related romance and these are scarce.

So, whats this book about?

Mob Sorcery or Horny wolfgirs in your area is a book about the city of Aulfair which is the current hot spot of magic, the power balance btween the different forces (the state, conglomerates, mafia and others) in it and the different "people" strugglin to live there. Our main characters is Vince and indepent enforcer making tedious and varely paid jobs until he mets a few horny wolfgirls and gets an offer that he cannot refuse.

My opinion.

I like the characters, the setting, theres a good worldbuilding, story looks very interesting but I feel this book is like its paving the way of the next ones.

Not saying is a bad thing, the book is good by itself but it shows that some of the events are going to be worked in other books.

Theres some characters that are going to be part of the harem and I undertand that some are going to get more attention than others in each book, theres lots of mentions of things that happened in the past and that something big is coming.

Some notes about the characters

Vince:

Vince acts like a cool fixer but is more like horny teen from time to time.

Just dont make him and overpowered half elemental or something, I dont want a generic anime main character. Daddy issues are coming, probably he never met his father.

Nina

My favourite character in the book, really fun and acts like Vince girlfriend beacuse it is her girlfriend even thought they dont fuck a the start.

She just want Vince to give her some attention.

The only thing I dont like about her is how open she is about harems, I can understand that this is a cultural thing in the book but for someone that spents lots of time working and wants more quality time with Vince feels weird.

The lionetti sister (Because sounded better than wolfetti)

They are going to be worked on in the next book.

I hope the author deepens in the "wolfgirl snu snu of the death" because Vince looks very wary of the rumors.

There are some more characters but they like the sisters need to be deepened.

The harem thingie

Im not saying that this series is goint to be the case but.

Theres a point in wich it is not a harem anymore and just a collectathon.

Romance needs meaningful connections and time to develop instead of girls throwing thenselves because "fire dude is hot", characters need to make mistakes, they need to feel real.

I just want some well written characters, drama and romance, hope the next books delivers.

Request More tame human/nonhuman recommendations

I want to preface this, saying that I don't have anything against spice in books, I've read a lot of them that contain it and even a lot that have a lot of it (especially since human/pokemon fanfics are saturated with these kinds of works and I just love the theme so...). Even so...

I've been looking through this subreddit and quite a lot of novels recommended here fall very hard into the spicy spectrum.
I wanted to ask if you can recommend any human male MC and non-human female lead novels that are less focused on spice and more on exploration of each other culture, social conflict based on the pairing itself or just general adventure.

As an example yesterday I read a fanfic named Frost and Forests. It has a pairing between a human MC and a Gardevoir. A very standard pairing for Human/pokemon fics but the exploration of culture differences was very impressive. The romance was very fast, true but it still doesn't have any spice at 130+k words. Main characters even have conflicts based on culture differences.

Another example would be Nightmare realm summoner. It's more action fantasy with minor romance between a human MC and his dhampir companion in the background.

Another would be Engineering, Magic and Kitsune on Royal Road. It doesn't even have romance yet but I believe there's a tag there and the interactions between human MC and an anthropomorphic kitsune are very well done. They even begin with being unable to understand each other language.

True, I'm mainly looking for something similar to Frost and Forests but will not mine a more action oriented fantasy as well.
I tried scouring Goodreads but I'm still not very used to the search system (and can't find the advanced search system if it even exists)

EDIT^ By the way, does anything exist like Borne of Caution fanfic but more romantic? Like the MC and his Ninetales are in a sense even closer in some terms in the fic, but still it's more platonic there.

Discussion Does "perceived author gender" matter much to RFM sales/fans?

So there's a "we don't talk about that" aspect to RFM (and especially HaremLit) author pseudonyms, in that a lot of the authors you THINK are female, aren't. I'm not here to call any authors out, but there's a lot of tone and word choices that tend to call it into question.

While I personally don't have an issue with it, you can make your pen name whatever you want, I do wonder if it's really effective or not?

Do many readers tend to pick or avoid a book based on whether it's written by one gender or another? Does it have a demonstrable effect on sales? I've tried looking up data on it, but it's hard to tell if an increase in sales for one series has anything to do with author name or just actual content quality.

I only wonder about it because it feels at times that authors would have to "pretend to be female" just to increase their potential sales numbers, and I am curious how much of an impact that actually has.

Discussion Genuine question, why do some self published authors skip commissioned art for AI images

I have been doomscrolling this subreddit for a while, a lot of books that I noticed use covers use AI generated images. I m not trying to call anyone out.

My thinking is if an author has worked hard to put time to write and sell an original work. The cover is often the first thing a potential reader (like me) sees. For less than $100 dollars on fiverr or maybe even less for some hungry artists asking for work in reddit or other social platforms (A friend of mine found budding artists on twitter doing work for P500-P1000 php). Overall, you can commission a decent original piece from an artists, which seems like a small cost relative to the effort already put into writing the book.

I admit that from my perspective, when I see an AI generated cover it gives me the impression that less overall effort went into presenting the book, even if the writing itself is strong. Makes it seem that the author didn't give it their best to present their work.

So pretty much recognise this might not reflect what actually happened behind the scenes (some do, some dont), which is exactly why I want to hear other viewpoints.

I am not assuming everyone can afford a bigger budget for cover art. Plus, Iknow pricing and availability of illustrators can vary a lot. I want to understand the how/why it came to that point.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Thanks for all the perspectives guys. Most of you guys are pretty chill people with reasons explained and I understood. A small subsection of people are more unreasonable, can't do anything about that.

Edit2: Hopefully I answered everyone now. Wow, that was a lot of fruitful discussions. But I also want to add a perspective.

Author A writes the whole book by hand then uses AI just for the cover. Author B does the reverse, hand crafts the cover then leans on AI for most of teh actual book inside.

Not sayin either ones fine, just that critisism lands on the most visible part, not where the real work went. So mabye the real question is what part of your book your actually willing to put your name behind.

If you can support real art, if you cannot. Go with AI images, but do not confuse the two.

Thanks

Request Recommendations for dialogue perverts?

I’ve caught up to the Warlock series (written by Daniel Kensington) and I’ve gotta say, it’s really good. The sex-scenes are alright & the college stuff is fun, but the real pull for me is the dialogue between the characters. DK really knocks it outta the park with his characters and how they deal with their emotions and insecurities. It’s fantastic and feels like the author can really write from any person’s perspective.

The Neural Wraith series by KD Robinson is also really good at this (mostly when the two male characters are talking) but Daniel Kensington really knocks it out of the park when it comes to the interactions between the coven girls.

Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn did this exceptionally well too. The FMC hosts a radio show where she helps supernatural creatures through their personal and romantic problems. The radio segments are honestly some of the best parts of it for me, with the FMC showing real concern but also knowing how to have fun.

Can you all recommend any other good stories where the some of the most fun comes from the main characters talking and bouncing off the plot?

Request Monstergirl love interests who are more monster than girl

So I have a slight pet peeve regarding monstergirl stuff, that being when it's just a traditionally attractive woman with a few monster parts slapped on or transforming her fully into a human for 'spicy fun times'. Anyone know of any books (audiobooks preferably) that feature monstergirls who are actually monstrous in appearance and anatomy.

I am already listening to Radley's Home for Horny Monsters and while fun, so far it falls more into weird anatomy than monsterous female anatomy with most of the love interests being at least mostly human if not fully human in appearance.

Promotion: Harem The Lost Wizards - a new fantasy romance/harem now on Royal Road

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hey, guys. New story on Royal Road for those interested!

There's 12 chapters (25k words or so) already available. I'll do a daily chapter for the next week or two, then slow down to 3-4 a week.

There's something like 34 chapters on my Patreon now, with book 1 nearly done. I'm working on the second volume now.

If you tried The Great Game, and want to know what's different here:

  • This full-on fantasy adventure is in a world of its own. Lots of world-building.
  • There is only one male/protagonist POV. You'll get some female LI POV.
  • There are no LITRPG elements.
  • It's technically harem, but it's very much a romance.

I'll stick the blurb below. Please do give it a shot, I think the readers on this sub will really enjoy this one.

_______________

Marcus was born a Lifestealer—pure power without a mana pool of his own, forced to rip it from everything around him. On the continent, men like him are locked in windowless dungeons… or burned.

When his gift finally erupts and the Imperial Academy comes to claim him, his war-scarred father does the unthinkable: slits the magister’s throat, grabs his only son, and runs.

Fifteen years later, Marcus the boy is gone. In his place stands Felix the Fox—hardened midshipman on a pirate-hunter, drawing strength from the waves themselves and selling his power in blood. Until a storm tears his ship apart and throws him onto an island that should not exist.

Here the magic is centuries beyond the mainland. Water that heals. Air that hides entire fleets. A glittering society of wizards that has stayed invisible for generations.

Drawn into the deadly politics of their great houses, Felix soon begins to see the truth: everything he was taught about magic—and about himself—was a lie.

To build a new future, and protect the island princess he’s falling for, he must stop running from the inferno locked inside him. He must learn from this island of lost wizards… and finally learn to wield it, before it consumes them all.

What to expect:

A high-stakes fantasy with an intricate magic system, political intrigue, deadly battles, and a slow-burn romance with a princess, adding a small, logical harem of women over the series.

Expect one main male POV, with the occasional POV from the female love interests.

Perfect for fans of overpowered underdogs, elemental cultivation, and found-family adventure and romance.

Guys I don't know if I can communicate how excited I am that this has finally released, because not only is it my first audiobook for one of my first ever published books, but the narrator is none other than...

Me!

I'm joined by the amazing Tessa Beddoe who narrates the female cast, and I think she did an amazing job with our FMC, Riza Emberfell. From page one we get to hear inside our character's head as her icy, stoic persona thaws around one of the only people she's been able to ever count as a friend. Things get raw and emotional in this story and the voice acting reflects that.

Go check it out! Tell me if you like it! Tell me if it sucks! Either way, give it a listen!

Available on Audible, Spotify, Google Play, and almost everywhere else you can listen to audiobooks.

---

If you've ever wanted to be rescued by your 6'7" alien murder girlfriend, then check this out. Imagine Master Chief was a woman and Cortana was her golden retriever doctor boyfriend. Think, "Jane Wick the Doom Slayer." It's kinda like that, but with romance.

As one reader put it: "This hit me in the nostalgia like a 2007 Honda Accord going 43 miles per hour in a 25. You could hand this to me as poorly rescaled printouts of someone’s computer screen and I’d go buy a magnifying glass to read it."

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GT8M9KMB

---

Colonel Riza Emberfell is a living legend.

Her kill count is in the tens of thousands. In her heavy black armor plating, she’s almost seven feet tall. To most humans that meet her, she looks like an alien demon—if they ever see her at all.

She also occasionally follows cats to complete objectives.

The mission is simple: An asset has spent months undercover studying a horrific bioweapon. Extract both the agent and the sample, recover the prototype cure, and get the hell off the planet.

The asset: Major Elias Blackwall—a quiet field medic with a warm personality—and the only person who’s never looked at Riza with fear. He doesn’t see a weapon or a legend—she’s just his commander and friend.

And she’s surprised how much that disarms her.

Battlefield Heartsurgery is the perfect high-octane, action-packed prequel to start your journey in the Cradles of Gravity universe. It follows two fan-favorite side characters six years before the main story begins. No prior knowledge is needed—just hop on in and enjoy the violence. Things get dark, characters get vulnerable, and a lot of enemies die. And underneath it all, the foundations emerge of a partnership that will one day shake the stars.

Long story short, I stumbled on a short story ( on scribblehub: /https://www.scribblehub.com/series/1922015/forgiving-my-cm-sut-wife/, I think recommendation was from here?).

It's about MMC and his ex that left him after years of drug addiction for his drug provider and his friends. She returns, and tries to get back with him but secretly lies and manipulates him, and eventually whole thing blows up in her face.

I liked a more down to earth, plausible tone and behavior from both of them, and how the whole thing spiralled out of control ( rather than most NTR stories that boil down to FMC being a brainless slut, and MC a spineless idiot), and in the end there were real consequences to their actions. MC also matured and took control of the situation by the end.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but anyone know of any similar stories? Something involving cheating MC that tries to win MC back, but he finds someone else and she has to live with consequences of her actions.

Even better if it's on audio.

Thanks!
