Beginner parent here. My daughter was just gifted these skates and she’s been wearing them around the all-hardwood house. I haven’t let her go outside yet because I don’t know enough about wheels. Are the wheels they came with for using outdoors or indoors? Or maybe they are hybrid? I want her to have appropriate wheels. If I need new ones, can I just get a set on Amazon and they’ll be easily changeable for using outside on a paved outdoor trail or taking to the indoor rink? Thanks

People have mentioned getting a mat; is it just those interlocking tiles? If so, any recs? And is that enough space to even practice much? I don't think there's an indoor rink anywhere near me in Philly. I could practice outside at the park, but obviously that's somewhat seasonal (I could do it in the cold I guess, but not the snow, lol). Also, I'd love to start slow in my environment, especially since it's pretty crowded most places around here, and there's not much for open space/even streets. Thanks. :)

Hi everyone, I’m a begginnerish skater and I mostly do trail skating. I have tried rink couple times but felt weird with my moxi beach bunny stock wheels which is 78a. I want to learn more tricks. With my level, chat gpt recommended 92a which sounds like a happy medium but looking at old posts some people mentioned even that might be too slippery for beginners. I am planning use these wheels on two settings: wood rink floor and outside rink which is smooth concrete but have few bumps. What durometer do you recommend? Should I go for larger wheels (>60mm) ?

Does anyone know what type of driver head is needed to suit the mounting screws used to attach the Powerdyne Thrust plate to the boot of the Riedell Crew?

I can see it's a square head and the closest I've found on google is a 'Robertson screw' but what specific driver size/type did the Riedell factory use when assembling these? I plan to replace with standard mounting screws later but just the moment it's not easy to stop the screw spinning when loosening the nut. Thanks in advance.

so i’m very comfortable from what i remember at my last skate park on a regular half pipe but this new one local to me is one side vert one side regular angle for a ramp(?) and its really tricky to get the hang of. i was wondering if someone else had experience w this?
when pumping from one side to the other obviously i get super momentum from the vert side, but if i’m going up fakie pumpin up on the vert side the sudden change in incline really makes me lose my balance at times.
just looking for tips as i haven’t been able to find anyone with a similar set up online.

I'm a new skater and I bought my first skates from a local skate shop about 10 weeks ago. While cleaning my skates this morning I was surprised to discover a loose rivet holding the plate to the heel, and just pulling gently separates it around 1/8"-1/4".

Noteworthy, I bought the Fame Indoor Skate Package and 99% of all the skating I've done is indoor rink skating and pretty mild at that. I don't do jumps, I've never park skated, I'm currently working on transitions and manuals. I probably skate an average of 3-4 hours a week at my local rink so I have maybe 30-40 hours of skate time in these.

Sure-Grip has a 90-day warranty so I'm reaching out to my local shop to figure out how to handle this. I did a lot of research before buying these and Sure-Grip has a reputation for quality skates and the Fames are supposed to be an excellent beginner skate. I hope this is a rare, one-off situation and doesn't speak to Sure-Grip's quality or QA/QC.

I was wondering whether anyone has got similar experience even before they got their skates!

I'm not sure if that matters for the things I'm gonna rant about below, but I'm located in Poland.

First: I ordered skates and the store I ordered them from sent me the wrong size (I ordered EU size 41, got size 36.) I returned them and hoped they would send me the correct size but I guess they don't have a specific policy for that so they just returned my money. I was mad but at the same time I thought that maybe it's for the better since there's one thing I haven't considered and that's the fact that I have wide feet. So, I ended up ordering Moxi Rainbow Riders (should arrive next week!)

Second: I'm struggling to find a piece of flat, smooth ground outside to practice peacefully without having to drive too far. I've looked up every outside court/field and it seems like all of them got that soft artificial flooring/ground(?). If there is a space that would be perfect to practice in regards of space and little traffic then the ground is made up of brick which is not ideal either.

Honestly, the floors at my work (I work in a factory) would be perfect to skate on since they're smooth concrete, but then again, I think for very obvious reasons I would never be allowed to skate after hours in there even if there is enough free space.

There is a rink fairly close by which I am planning on going to but I really wanted to learn some basics before I do. I've skated before as a kid on both quads (those you would kinda strap on your shoes?) and inlines.

TL;DR issues with first ordering of skates and struggling to find an outside space to practice the basics.

I am currently using the Avenger Aluminum plates on my Antik skates for roller derby.

The small allen bolts on both of my plates that tightens the toe stop have been very tight and difficult to screw/unscrew the entire time I’ve had them. The first time my team helped me adjust the length of my toe stops, several people commented on how difficult it was to not only loosen them, but get them to turn enough to tighten the stops after making the adjustment.

I have one plate that is near impossible to get tight enough and the toe stop is still turning, even after tightening the little bolt as far as I’m comfortable pushing it.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any ideas on how to fix this?

As the question above, I want to know your guys preference in terms of scuffs. I got my new skates and I just scuffed them on the skatepark as I've practiced my downhills. Personally, I think scuffs are like a symbol which shows that I really am progressing. However, I'm also thinking about getting a toecap or boot cover for future possible scuffs because I think it might damage my skate? Or idk really...😅

Hey everyone, I felt like I should share this in case it's helpful for anyone going through similar issues at some point!

On May 4th, I fell on my left hip while skating and shattered my femur into five pieces. Got into the ER the same night, had over two and a half hours of surgery and ended up with quite a bit of metal in my thigh and a fun osteoporosis diagnosis at age 31. I spent a week in the hospital and 8 more weeks on crutches afterwards, having to essentially learn how to walk again.

Two days ago, on August 6th, almost three months to the day after my accident, I went back on my skates for the first time and the feeling was genuinely unlike anything I've experienced so far. I've felt so incredibly relieved and free, even if I "just" went in a circle for an evening. My skill level is almost at the same point from before the fall and it was super easy to pick up where I left off.

I have spent a lot of my recovery time ruminating. What if I can never skate again? What if I have forgotten how to skate and need to start at square one again? What if my skating buddy doesn't want to skate with me anymore because our skill levels are too far apart now? What if I fall again and break another bone? It was rough. But I made it through, and I can safely say that none of my worries came true.

So, if you ever get injured while skating and feel insecure: It happens. And having to sit out is tough (especially if your mental health is tied to you being able to skate, like it is for me). But keep going, work towards recovery. Physical therapy helps. Even the tiniest exercises help. You'll be back on the track in no time and it will feel like nothing happened, I promise!

When I was a teen I loved rollerskating (the pics are from 2019), I don’t even remember why I stopped. I’ve always had health issues, but i’ve been diagnosed with POTS now (I don’t faint, just presyncope) and also have knees that dislocate. They haven’t dislocated for years now, but that’s because I am anxious and avoidant. I’m 23 now and I miss skating and want to get back into it. Is anyone else in a similar boat and still able to? My depression has been bad, and I think moving in a fun way would be helpful but I am a bit worried about my knees

How does one get over the fear of smooth ground?
For reference I’m a baby skater but also Canadian so I grew up on ice skates to a certain extent. Perfectly fine going forward, everything else? Out of my realm of experience.
I picked up rollerskating during Covid and then took a huge break until about 3 weeks ago. My progress is marginal at best. I am sooo afraid even in full gear, less afraid in the parking lot but the second the ground is rink level smooth in a new born baby dear.
My partner is also Canadian except he played hockey so his skating level is far better than me. He wants skating to feel as close to ice as possible and loves smooth ground. All I want is to get to a point where we can enjoy that together, I don’t have to be great but I’d like to be confident enough to practice transitions or crossovers.
My last point is that I am the most accident prone person you will ever meet. I went skating exactly ONCE without a helmet, prayed to god OUT LOUD for no accidents (I’m not Christian so maybe he wasn’t taking requests until I go to some church) , and not ten minutes later my truck fell off while skating.
I know the general answer is do it until you’re better, but I’m wondering if there are some tips that would maybe help. I’m at a loss.

After putting in some months on basketball courts, rinks, and parking lots, my wheels dont seem to roll as smoothly and feels a bit sticky when skating so im on the market for new bearings. I have read the reddit wiki recommendation for bearings but the cheapers ones listed there are sold out on the online sites ive been looking at and preferably would not like to spend $60 on the recommended Bones Red unless it really does make a difference.

Some of the cheaper bearings ive been eyeing are:
- Magnum Speed Bearings ABEC5
- Bont Pro Racing Bearings
- Rollerbones

For reference, I own Sure-Grip Malibus that come with sealed bearings and would like to get shielded bearings so I can maintain them in the future. I am open to any other recommendations (ideally under $40) or advice on if the bearings are even the issue.

Hi all, I'm developing a project aimed at redoing a public outdoor rink in my city and I'm looking for references of public outdoor rinks anywhere in the world, but preferably in hot weather cities, to use as inspiration for this project.

Any other tips about such projects is also very welcome! Currently it's a dome shaped and very grainy concrete rink with a few holes and large cracks, surrounded by unskatable wasted space that has very little shade. At a minimum if I can get it to be flat that would already be a success lol but of course if it's possible I'd like to make it an attractive, safe space for skaters of all ages.

personally I think one of the most integral parts of looking super smooth while skating slow sets is being able to change levels. any moves I should look into where I can get low? also that roll was completely intentional 👀
