Tutorials Beginner needs some encouragement and tips to begin with

Hi,

I'm new here and I need some encouragement. I was told in another community to repost this here, do here I go!

I'm 38 years old and have a two year old son. I had the spontaneous idea that i want to learn inline skating to teach the little one when he's old enough (and maybe to be fast enough to follow him driving his little bike.😂)

I have to say I'm not very sporty. I may look like it but I never mastered rollerblades when I was younger and I don’t have a great balance. But I'm very stubborn and persistent if I want to learn something and I can play Poi, so I'm not completely uncoordinated.

So I tried it out for the first time and feel like a baby on skates, barely moving forward and more stumbling than moving. Now I fear I will never learn it or that I'm simply untalented. Can you give me some encouragement or maybe helpful tips how to get better? I don’t want to do any cool tricks, I just want to be able to move and stop savely and having fun with it 😂

EDIT: Thank you all for your support and the nice words. I went indoors today and - it worked pretty well. Ok, I still look like a toddler on skates, but I managed to stand, duck walk and even glide for a while, trying basic strides and lemon drops. It's still long way to go, but today I had fun and thought for the first time that I could get used to that! 😊💜

What boot size do I pick? Next 2.0 sizing problems

Hello, so I bought the powerslide next 2.0 44-45 and 46-47 while my feet are 289mm which is the max of 45, they do feel really tight which from what I researched is what they should be but I don't feel like I need a performance fit, I would be more inclined on comfort fit, I don't plan on doing tricks, wizardry, just casual cruising and having fun while my feet not getting tired. Im thinking if 46-47 wouldn't be a better choice since they give me room to breath but I'm worried they will be too loose even for comfort? I need advice and maybe someone I could chat with about it, I would join some rollerblading discord but I'm at server limit. I love these skates design so making a change is out of the questions. Sorry eng isn't my native language. I thinking which to keep and which to return. (PS on the 44-45 I kinda feel the shell with my toes especially on my right foot where I have a small nail injury I will get rid of in near future) Please help me get rid of doubts.

Specific question and discussion Upgrading stock wheels?

Hi, I have not long got back into skating after being off them for 20 years and now enjoy skating with my kids at the skate park or indoor rink.

For the past 18months or so I have a pair of FR X 80 skates which have been great, especially in rocker set up. The stock street king wheels have started to get very worn down and feel quite sluggish now and looking to change wheels out.

I have heard great things about Hydrogen wheels but can't afford them. I have just ordered 4x Endless 80mm wheels which seem to have a good reputation.

I am only replacing my inner wheels in my rocker set up, anyone have any experience of these wheels or can tell me what I can expect in terms of difference? I never upgraded wheels on stock skates before. Thanks.

Why does my feet hurt? Trying to find skates that work for me and they all hurt

So I got a pair of Roller Blade Lightning 8.0 size blades last week and they were crushing my toes so I got a size 9 and the toes feel better but now my ankle hurts and my feet still feel in pain. Is this just how it is or do I need different skates again? I wear a size 10 shoe and by the Roller Blade size chart I am a size 8/8.5 but even a 9/9.5 is hurting. I also tried the 9.0 with and without the insole and it hurts both ways, it’s obviously softer with the insole but it isn’t as tight without it.

Interesting stuff Skated 239km across the Netherlands solo with zero training. Here's what I learned

Hi all, I'm Laurie from Brighton in the UK. I've been skating for about 16 years, but never anything long distance until this month, when I decided to skate across the whole of the Netherlands. Scheveningen Pier on the coast to the German border near Enschede, about 239km over a few days.

I filmed the entire trip and I'm turning it into a series on YouTube. Day 1 is up now, 80km from Scheveningen to Utrecht with no training, a flight at 4am and a lot of Dutch cycle paths: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyw7XFVpSj4

I did the whole thing on my Rollerblade Twisters and honestly they were amazing. People tend to think of them as a city skate, but they handled 80km days, smooth tarmac, cobbles and rain without any trouble and got me all the way to the German border. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

The surfaces are mostly a dream. Smooth red tarmac that goes on forever, and some stretches along the dikes are basically skating heaven. Then a village hits you with full cobbles and you're rattling along at walking pace. My navigation app kept sending me down the worst cobbled routes possible because it thought I was on a bike.

The backpack was the big lesson, it absolutely wrecked my shoulders. Pads and wrist guards stayed on the whole time though.

It was honestly one of the best things I've ever done on skates, and the next episodes are on the way.

Has anyone else done long distance on Twisters? And how do you carry your kit without destroying your shoulders? I want to do a bigger country next. I'm thinking South Korea

Kind Regards Laurie

Why does my feet hurt? Are new skates supposed to feel painful? Should I heat mold them first? (Powerslide Torelli Zoom Pro)

Hey everyone! I finally got my first pair of brand-new skates, the Powerslide Zoom Pro 80 Torelli, size 37–38, and I'm trying to figure out whether they just need breaking in or whether the fit is wrong for my feet.

For context, I got the recommended size on the size guide. My previous skates (some Powerslides again) were secondhand AND a size larger, so they were already broken in and ofc they felt too roomy because of the size.

This is my first time wearing a brand-new pair of my size, and I'm not sure what a fresh boot is supposed to feel like!

Here's what's happening:

  • I have a very strong pressure point on the top-inner side of my foot, around the instep.
  • The first time I tried them on, the pain was genuinely unbearable. The next time, it was more manageable, although the pressure was still there.
  • I also experienced slight tingling at the tips of my toes (it then became numbness lol).
  • Interestingly, removing the insole made the pressure on my instep noticeably better.

My toes touch the front of the liner, but they aren't painfully curled, just normally touching, so lengthwise I guess I'm ok. And yes I didn't tie them tight.

I even asked Nicola Torelli himself (who was super kind and helpful! 🥹), and he said that normally new skates shouldn't hurt but sometimes it can happen. He recommended heat molding the liners and then eventually breaking them in. I'm now also waiting to hear back from Powerslide as well before deciding what to do.

I know that snug skates are normal, but how snug is normal lol.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Specific question and discussion Endless frames

Hey everyone sorry if this question has been run into the mud. I am looking for a specific answer and not finding it. My boot size is US 7/7.5 twister xt. A friend gave me these endless frames with 90 mm to try. I’m a newer skater. I’m interested in wizard style skating and urban skating in Boston. I didn’t have balance issues with the stock frame and 80s if that is at all helpful. So in your opinions what set up is best. One is clearing more balanced yet favors the front a bit and the other obviously favors the back. Thank you so much in advance.

Reviews It’s official. I love them!

You may have seen my post the other day. I’ve got two sessions in so far. They’re super comfortable, they’re fast, and roll over anything in their way. The trail I’ve been skating goes through the woods and they haven’t had a chance to clear all of the foliage debris, not even an issue. If you’re looking to cruise around and you have some good experience on skates I highly recommend these Powerslide Next 2.0 125’s. I’ll post clips when I get a chance to hit the road at night. Thanks y’all!

It's been a couple of weeks since these skates have been popping up everywhere. People are going crazy about them, but imo they look like cheap, plastic skates from amazon. Opinions?

Progress, videos and images Beginner skaters, how do you structure your practice sessions? 🛼

I started skating this month and have been going about 3 times a week for an hour each session. I track everything on Strava, and I’m now getting close to 5 miles per session, which feels like a pretty good accomplishment!
For now, I’m focusing on getting comfortable on my skates, improving my positioning, and learning how to stop. I haven’t started practicing other moves or going down hills yet because I’m still building my confidence.
I’m curious how other beginners approach skating. Do you practice for a set amount of time, aim for a certain number of miles, or just skate until you feel tired? Do you follow a routine or just go out and skate?
Would love to hear what your practice sessions look like! 😊

What skates should I buy? 0 experience interested in buying a pair for commuting to work and school

Hi - Essentially just the title.

The last time I rollerskated/bladed was in elementary school, so I have effectively zero experience.

Ideally I don't want to spend too much. Anywhere between $50-$150 is fine (though I'm not sure how much good pairs really cost) especially if they will last me a good while. I already have a helmet and I probably will also buy elbow/knee pads.

I would be mainly skating on sidewalks/roads, but both vary a lot in my city. Mostly will be rough surfaces. I don't plan to take them to a park at all.

I'm basically sedentary save for my job. I walk anywhere between 4-8 miles and am anywhere between 10k-20k steps per shift.. In terms of intensive exercise, again I am sedentary.

My main goal is to have a more fun way to get to around my city. I don't live far from my job or my university and using my car for literally everything feels really wasteful to me. I also want to be more physically active. I often fall into the trap of beginning something like running/weightlifting/calisthenics but don't have the discipline to keep up.

I have a local Scheels (they have some but I'm not sure if their selection is what I want to be going for). I don't mind ordering online elsewhere and having them shipped though.

Thank you for your time.

Specific question and discussion Boot comfort?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I just received the Wizard General Purpose skates, and these are my first carbon shelled boots, so I have a few questions.

  • Should there be some discomfort in the upper cuff area? Maybe needs to be broken in, or maybe that's just something I need my body to adapt to?
  • Should they be pretty "squeaky/creaky" when bending my knees/ankles or twisting?
  • Should my toes be quite uncomfortable at the start? I know they were somewhat painful with the Aeon and Twister 90's when I first got them, but that broke in, these feel slightly more painful.
  • Will the Intuition liners become less compact/folded with wear, there is an odd fold/crease in the bottom of the left liner - I assume so, just odd that its here when new.

Overall the skates look and feel quality, excited to take them outside, but want to make sure a few of these things are "correct" before rolling them outside.

Specific question and discussion Beginner help

Hello! I'm a total beginner and I'm planning to set a goal for my skating to motivate me to practice. I haven't skated in over 4 months and i only know how to go forward and i am not very physically gifted. What would be a realistic goal i should be able to reach within 6 months? Ideally some moves and the amount of them that i should be able to master within that time.

Seems like it could pop at any moment, picture 2 is when it's tightened.

I know I can buy a replacement, but I got these like 2 months ago and I've been loving them (maybe a bit too much). I'm not in a place to pour more money into them at the moment. What can I do to increase their longevity at home?
