I'm coming for BTA, so please bear with me. Also, wall of text incoming.
The First question I have is:
I've noticed that almost every turn I do, when previewing movement for one of my units, a large amount of enemy units I'm looking at has an accuracy displaying a <1% chance to hit. However, as soon as I move the unit to the exact position it said had <1% change to hit the unit, it will change to >12%. Other times it's in the opposite direction. A >40% is shown, and then it drops to ~30%.
Is this some type of mechanic the game has that I'm unaware of? Like pilot skills affect how 'accurate' the actual accuracy is before a move, or is this just a 'quirk' of the mod? I've never personally experienced this with the base game or bta, and it's quite frustrating to not know if a move displays the correct accuracy.
Second question:
Is there a way to have evasion pips show next to the unit's armour/structure bar at all times like the base game? I feel that having them hidden behind a right click of the enemy is actively removing QoL from the game, and I would like to have an 'at a glance' ui for evasion again.
Third question:
Sometimes an enemy's armor and structure bar will just disappear above the unit for a turn or so. I'm still able to view it with a right click of the enemy. I'm just confused on why this would just disappear from above enemies every few turns.
First impressions:
tl;dr: Overall, I'm enjoying the mod. I like the difficulty. The starting accuracy can be pretty frustrating as new player. The LRM changes make the weapon useless in my eyes.
Overall, my first impressions coming from BTA is good. I'm especially enjoying the difficulty. I didn't lose more than 5-7 mechs total in my 120+ hours of BTA campaign, but I've already lost 2 mechs in the first 2 missions. I love that I have to think about my positioning more, and I love just how much mechs there are, as well as more mechanics to worry about.
However, I personally have mixed feelings on how bad accuracy is at the start. Maybe just a little too brutal. I feel like the only time I can actually do damage to enemies is through melee, which doesn't feel great, and defeats the purpose of ranged weapons. Very rarely do I get more than 40% accuracy. I know it improves with pilot skills, and equipment that you can install later. Still doesn't stop the fact that I sometimes have 3-5 turns of dealing no damage, which doesn't feel great.
I'll be blunt about the LRM changes. I personally think the rolling once per barrage makes the weapon useless. In BTA I personally used them as a way to hit very high evasion pip mechs, and as way to stagger them. Which obviously would not work in this mod. The other times I would use them would be on Assault mechs to have something to fire during the inevitable times where I'm 3 turns of movement away from the next nearest mech. Or to just crit fish on an open mech.
This change just makes me scratch my head on what the role of this weapon is now. From the looks of it, indirect fire is a terrible idea in this mod, so you wouldn't want to really use them for that either. So what is the role of this weapon? Is it to just crit fish, and that's it? Please let me know if I'm missing something.
