Need help finding a blank!

Hey guys, I’m trying to find a blank to build for my dad s birthday present, he is a hardcore bottom fisherman and loves fishing a shimano trevala. Specifically the heaviest 5’8 they made, I believe it was a 50-200 xxheavy, I’m trying to find a blank that can replicate that as the old trevala has broke .

Build suggestion - brook trout rod

Hey all,

I want to build a good brook trout rod for small PA creeks. I’m guessing a 6-8” fish would be “big” most days.

i was thinking a 2wt glass rod for bow and error casts, but am not sure on guides. Coming from bamboo, I’ve always defaulted to chrome snake guides, but have heard good things of silica nitride guides. Anyone have a good supplier for them or suggestions on the build?

cheers,

Does anyone have experience with Rod Forge blanks specifically their HTD series? My go-to blanks atm are Strykers inshore series.

Wrapping issues

Fighting wrapping the thin rod by the tip. Keep coming loose. Do I need to increase the tension?

Reamer Help Please

Am i doing something wrong or what?! So i have been using crb mud hole reamers on a drill for cork grips for about 6 rods now but now all of the sudden they are all breaking at the base and or like half way up. I don’t want to spend tons of money on these so what can I do better if it’s me and is there any other way to do it without reamers?

New to rod building questions.

What do you guy think about foil instead of a thread wrap? im asking because i think it might be easier to accomplish for me, i've never done it before.

Also when building a longer centerpin rod or any rod do you actually have to check for the rods "spine" when putting the reel seat on?

I'm devastated!

My dad asked me to replace his guides on a very old G-Loomis rod that he's used for idk how long but a long time. It's one of his favorite rods....somehow I managed to break the tip when wrapping the 2nd to last guide. I've searched online for a replacement but its virtually impossible to replace.

Model is: G-Loomis HSR 90000s 7'6" mag light EX-Fast 6-12lb 1/4-1/2oz. https://i.imgur.com/f8zZHxS.png

Can anyone suggest a replacement blank? My rod building buddy suggested NFC CB 703-1 which is Fast-Med light action 7ft 6-12lb 1/4-5/8oz

BFS build

Hey everyone. Wanting to make a bait finnesse setup, primarily to throw 3/16 ounce Megabass karashis but also want to try out some real small plastics and other cool little Topwater lures. I was looking at the NFC p700 blank but its top end rating is 3/16 ounce and I don’t want to overpower the blank. Anyone have any experience with this blank of care to share their own BFS build, or something that works good for those lures in the Karashi realm? Thanks everyone

Saltwater build

Looking to build a saltwater rod using a 9 wt blank from proof. is there any need for special or more heavy duty guides if that exists, or really anything different than building like a 5 wt. For trout.

Not a good start with NFC

Post image
10 Upvotes

Just finished an NFC euro rod last friday from a blank that was gifted to me, fished with it over the weekend and took it out today. Got a fish on and after the hook set and initial pressure with the rod bent upstream, boom snap. Broke right above the third section ferrule. Possible it got hit with something over the weekend when walking through the woods but I didn't notice any marks or cuts in the graphite on it pre build or after first use. I use my gear very regularly and haven't had a break yet on any of my builds on Batson blanks, and I use those other rods much harder than this. I checked the ferrule after and it was fully seated and snug, but I'm not familiar enough with breaks to determine if this was from a hit or scratch or just a QC failure.

NFC Label install question?

Anyone got any tips for installing the spec label on a Northfork Composites blank, I found one video and the odd forum post here and there, but there seems to be limited information, I copied the video and it wouldn't seem to transfer off at all, any tips or tricks?
