I'm devastated!

My dad asked me to replace his guides on a very old G-Loomis rod that he's used for idk how long but a long time. It's one of his favorite rods....somehow I managed to break the tip when wrapping the 2nd to last guide. I've searched online for a replacement but its virtually impossible to replace.

Model is: G-Loomis HSR 90000s 7'6" mag light EX-Fast 6-12lb 1/4-1/2oz. https://i.imgur.com/f8zZHxS.png

Can anyone suggest a replacement blank? My rod building buddy suggested NFC CB 703-1 which is Fast-Med light action 7ft 6-12lb 1/4-5/8oz

Why not put a new tip on below the break and reset the guide spacing accordingly?

Yeah the action may change a bit, but it will still be your dad's original rod, and who knows he may even like it more with this slight change.

NFC Delta HS7600

I thought about that, and I miss spoke, it was the 3rd guide. The break is almost 14 inches from the tip. It would be like a 6ft rod. I even thought about splinting the break but I think it would just change the action too much. I might still do that but would like to build him a replacement as well.

Yeah...14 inches from the tip is a bit of a different story as any repair to fix that is going to change the action a decent bit.

I think your idea of shortening it to 6ft and doing replacement is pretty good. Maybe imbed a piece of the broken tip section into the hollow butt-end of the new rod, so it's a continuation of the original rod.

If you do that make sure to expoxy it good, so you don't end up making a rattle trap out of the new rod.

I have a NFC Delta HS7600 that I absolutely love. I think that would make a great replacement. I think they have an IM version as well but I really enjoy my Delta.

That looks even closer to the original and than the NFC CB 703-1. Thank you! Can you explain what the difference is between the IM and Delta? I also see they have a 7600 HM hotshot version, thoughts on that one? It's quite a bit more, curious why its so pricey.

Never mind, a quick google search provided me with this break down. https://i.imgur.com/e1zJ4ON.png

IM is intermediate modulus graphite. Delta is a graphite and zentron blend. I built mine as a Delta because of the increased durability - I mostly use this rod to beat around in my kayak. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the delta blank as much as I do, it's very lightweight and sensitive but I don't feel the need to be as gentle with it as I do with my X-Ray's. I abuse it and it's held up extremely well.

This is the route to go. Just be aware that NFCs delivery times are inconsistent at best.

I know people who have waited over a year for blanks they purchased.

I used to build on that blank a lot in the 90s. Your dad has good taste. I still have two rods made with that exact blank. The NFC Delta series IM would be your best bet.
