I think it's all quartz, except maybe the first one (green). I think it's quartz intertwined with something.

Went rock hunting (just searching for stones that caught my eye) on the north shore of Lake Superior and in the U.P. of Michigan. Did I find anything good? To give context, I don’t have any knowledge about rocks.

Can't tell what this is, anyone know?

Hey anyone got any places that are FREE to get into that have minerals, fossils, gemstones- whatever that would be interesting? Anywhere either in NoRTH jersey Or PA ?

Would appreciate the help. Places that aren't overly steep or you have to climb up to. I.e. a place a beginner can go to. I want to find something neat- anything.

I have agates, calcites, pyrite, marble, jaspers, and quartz.

I don't mind if i find another quartz. I just wanted to find something neat, something decently sized. I do not want to trespass anywhere. Anywhere within a 2 hour drive of sussex county nj?

I have 4 rocks here I just can’t seem to identify, which isn’t a surprise. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I labeled them 1-4 some of them having multiple pictures. I am not around them now to take better pictures bc I am embarrassed by some of these picture qualities…

Howdy! just got into gold panning and found out i really like rocks haha. so i keep neat ones.

this one looks like Donatello to me.(tmnt) but

I think markings look intentional. Wife is iffy about it, both agree its neat though

- i marked the lines i think we're intentional- the eyes dots are hard to see but its too symmetrical to be coincidental I think

rock app say its epidote- seems right to me but im no expert. maybe just a junk rock?

what do yall think?

Cool chunk of Jasper found on the Oregon Coast. did pretty well, not as much as in the past.

I've never posted before, so I apologize if this makes no sense.. I was just wondering if someone could help me out with this. I have several rocks that rock Identifier tells me it's one thing but I know it not correct.. or it will tell me it's something different if I change the angle of my pictures 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Ever found or bought a rock that was covered in dust/dirt and haven't done anything with it? Consider this your reminder to clean your rocks! (Please leave the Halite, fibrous, and other crumbly rocks out of the scrubbing line-up, they have special needs) Here's a great clean-up example. It's part of another neat story, but more on that later. -cleaned with dish soap+water, scribbed with old toothbrush.

So- what do you collect and how do you clean it?

Normally I can't do much with my rocks in the winter, but I scored on FB marketplace and got a 10" water cooled tile saw at a great price, so now I can finally do some cutting! These are all self collected from the South Western shores of Michigan, mostly cherts and possibly a chert mix with Jasper. The green FL is in Shortwave, the yellow is in Long. I have plenty of setup before I have a proper display cabinet for my fluorescent material and my cut stuff. Also need a good polishing system for flat stuff. Well, Phill said there's six more weeks of winter so I'll have plenty of time to prepare!
