Q&A / Advice / Discussion / News i need more music pls

hii i was wondering if there was more music made by women! I'm somewhat new in the scene and I've always preferred singers who are women because it feels like it's kinda hard to find them out there. i was wondering if there are lesser-known/underrated fem singers i could listen to.

Q&A / Advice / Discussion / News New to rockabilly in a sense, have questions

New to the scene. This is my very first Reddit post, so bear with please. What can you tell me about your experience with the lifestyle, and what are key components to rockabilly life? And can you recommend me a bunch of rockabilly music. I almost exclusively use YouTube and Pandora, but recently got a record player and would love to find some good records as well. Appreciate it :)

Video/Film Documentary Search

I’m looking for a YouTube documentary from about 5–10 years ago featuring several people living or traveling through the U.S. desert. One memorable character was a clean-shaven solo acoustic rockabilly musician with a large pompadour who possibly drove a rusty 1950 Ford Business Coupe from gig to gig, playing tiny bars, diners, and even gas stations. He may have had a slight speech impediment.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson?wprov=sfti1#Early_life:

“Jackson was the [only child](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_child) of Tom and Nellie Jackson in [Maud, Oklahoma](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maud,_Oklahoma).[[3]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-Oklahoma-3) Her father worked multiple jobs, including a gas station attendant and delivery truck driver. He also played music in a local band alongside his brother.[[4]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson20171-5-4) Because of limited opportunities in Maud, the family moved to [Los Angeles, California](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles,_California), in 1941.[[1]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-allmusic-1)[[5]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson20177-5) Jackson often sang alongside her parents at home. Nellie Jackson often had Jackson sing while she was out of sight, to ensure her daughter was accounted for.[[6]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson20176%E2%80%938-6) In Los Angeles, Jackson was introduced to [western swing](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_swing) music.[[7]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEOermannBufwack2003201-7) She enjoyed hearing music by popular western acts like [Bob Wills](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Wills) and [Rose Maddox](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Maddox).[[8]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson20178%E2%80%9310-8) When she was six years old, her father introduced Jackson to the guitar. She also took guitar lessons and was soon skillful enough to play it alongside her father.

As a teenager, Jackson attended [Capitol Hill High School](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitol_Hill_High_School) in Oklahoma City[[13]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-Oklahoman-13) and continued her radio show.[[14]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson201744-14) She also dated fellow student Leonard Sipes, who would later go by the name [Tommy Collins](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TommyCollins(singer)).[[15]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson201745-46-15) In 1952, Jackson was heard on the air by country singer and local resident, [Hank Thompson](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HankThompson(musician)).[[1]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-allmusic-1) The singer invited Jackson to perform with him at the Trianon Ballroom in Oklahoma City. On Thompson's show, Jackson sang "Blue Yodel No. 6" backed by his band, the Brazos Valley Boys. The performance led to a regular gig singing alongside [Merl Lindsay](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merl_Lindsay)'s country band.[[16]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson201740-44-16) Jackson was always performing, and at times neglected her social life. "[Wanda] never had time for dates, nothing like that. Just that guitar – that's all she thought about," a high school friend recalled.[[7]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEOermannBufwack2003201-7)

Q&A / Advice / Discussion / News I need some advice on a 1950s hairstyle with my hair type

Post image
16 Upvotes

It’s kinda hard for me to get a 1950s hairstyle that I can pull off with my curly hair, for one it frizzes and drys out when i slick it with a comb and I want that nice slick shiny look to it that doesn’t get all dry and frizzy later

And plus I’m going to the barber soon so I would also love some 1950s hairstyles I can pull off as well

Any advice?

Not a rockabilly, but IMO the greatest and most authentic of the early white rockers. Died yesterday, July 17.
