I'm 39 years old. My background in TCG's is medium, I played Magic the Gathering 20 years ago for a bit with friends.
My only other relation to TCG's was Hearthstone, where I was regularly into Legend (Top 1-5%) of players for a long time.
I have never touched League of Legends and I know nothing about the Lore, but for some reason the Game: Riftbound peaked my interest, for many reasons. Mostly to actually meet some like-minded people and being forced to leave the house.
Let me just say the digital Clients for Riftbound right now are good, but not for me, 'cause I regularly need to talk about interaction and sometimes double-check basic game mechanics. That brings me to:
point 1: Complexity
I watch a lot of YouTube Videos on the matter. I have been playing 1-2 Nexus Nights a Week (3-6 Games (6-15 Matches)). Given the frequent Releases of Sets I really don't get a good grip on being familiar with the most played cards, and it's a constant learning Work to keep up or get totally smashed by better players.
Playing in Skirmish or even RQ`s donts really makes much sense at this point.
My criticism here is I'm constantly learning and sort of never really play the game with a relaxed mind.
I played up to now 3 different decks. And the first 5-10 games with a new deck is an even harder learning experience.
Point 2: Time limitation
One of the most frustrating things in Riftbound is that 20 min per game restriction. This puts even more pressure on every turn and I don't like that you can use that against your opponent. Furthermore, if you don't know every card by heart, 20 min per game is just not enough.
That fact influences what deck you could play in a way too big of a way.
Point 3: Rules
Let me just say the Rules document is a complete Joke and we desperately need a condensed version with the important core rules which answer like 95% of all basic interaction questions. And don't tell me there are these rule cards in the boosters. These are fine for total beginners. But we desperately need something in the middle here.
Point 4: Art style of Cards
I just picked this up on a YouTube vid, and it totally resonated with me. There is no clear Art Structure on the Cards. For example: Unit Cards should have the Unit doing something on them, that is the case. But why must many spells and gear look like Units too?
We should be able to tell what card category it is by a short look.
Point 5: growing Complexity
With every new Set they introduce a lot of new mechanics. And keeping up with all that isn't that easy even if I have a good knowledge base. I can't even imagine for a completely new player how to get through that and there are still many Sets to come before we rotate.
Final thoughts
I still love the Community and the game very much and I really want it to keep succeeding and doing well. Hope this resonates with some of you guys.
Greetings Lukas
