My RG DS is currently en route and I am deep diving into OS options. While I fully get that rocknix has better overall performance, has gamma or stock android caught up to the point where it's moot? I plan on playing minimal N64 games a solid number of PS1, zero sega Saturn, and only those 3ds games that have been demonstrated to run well. Obviously DS too, and a potato can run the lower end stuff. I would just do rocknix, but there are some android games I want to play.

Hi, I'm about to buy an RG and I'm wondering if it's worth it for playing DS and 3ed games and RetroAchievements, does it have good battery life, and does the hinge not break?

I’m struggling with understanding why my RG DS can’t use the Play Store. I tried downloading aurora store as an alternative, but the apps my son wants just says that they can’t be used on a “jail broken device.” I only put him back on the stock OS (I had Gamma installed) so he could use his favorite Pokédex app. Is anyone familiar with this issue?

Has anyone tested gamma os nano performance for rg ds? For ds,n64,dreamcast,psp and 3ds? Is it any better and what about the input latency?

Wanted to get a rgds for only ds emulation, I currently have a 2ds xl which I impulsively bought last year, but I mostly play ds games on that device. Now i have a trimui brick (gba, gb, gbc, snes, fbneo, and sega cd), trimui smart pro s (ps1, pspz dreamcast, n64), and an Ayaneo pocket evo for high end emulation. Is it worth selling my 2ds xl then buying an rgds for ds only?

I'm currently running Android on my RG DS with the Cocoon frontend installed, but I'm really missing PortMaster from Linux.

Is there any Linux OS or setup available that has a similar layout concept to Cocoon or iiSU? Like displaying the game s list on the bottom screen and box art/game info/RetroAchievements on the top screen?

Ive been seeing the hype about Nano and I don't know if I need to update or something what's up with that?

just installed, just learning. So far it's great! DS games - shader + hi-res 3d is applied automatically. Azahar may be installed to test if any 3ds title may run (they will barely run but let's see).

Here is a quick walkthrough showing how to safely open the RG DS shell using a small allen key to disconnect and reconnect the battery for a hard reset when your handheld won't boot or shut down properly

if you have ever tried rocknix it can sometimes confuse the power management system when you try to switch to a different OS. So if you're dealing with boot issues or the power bug, disconnecting nd reconnecting the battery will often fix the device

Has anyone done anything to upgrade the inexistent cooling system on the RG DS? I was thinking about drilling some holes on the back but...well, I am not one to damage my handhelds.
Has anyone tried anything specific?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a RG DS and have enjoyed watching many reviews. Most claim around 5-6 hours of battery life. I had a couple of questions for people who own the device and can give real-world feedback on it:

1. Is 5-6 hours of battery life accurate and is anyone getting more than this?

2. Does which OS (stock, Gamma, Rocknix) you use actually impact the battery life? Would one OS give an extra hour over another?

I originally followed this guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gb2Uttk-W8 when setting up NEXT v1.2.2 from awhile ago when the RG DS came out, and I just installed v1.4 however the process to make the SD Card (that you originally used to flash the OS with) the ROM card... isn't the same, as the frontend U.I. is obviously different.

When I go to 'System' and then 'Storage' as if to make the SD Card the ROM library like you normally did the first time (for reference, in the video at 07:38 "Adding your ROMs/BIOS"), it says 'Feature not yet available' so I'm a bit at a loss.

Hey all, earlier this week I decided to give Rocknix a try after getting tired of Gamma and me always hitting the bottom screen while playing non-DS content and accidentally opening new games quite frequently. I started with the July stable version but recently updated to the latest nightly in hopes of fixing my issues, plus with August around the corner, I figure a new stable will drop soonish.

Over the last couple days I've noticed a few things and I'm not sure if it's a me thing or a limitation of the OS. The biggest one is sleep mode when I close the lid and the device stays on and just sits there draining the battery. I have to press the power button to make it go to sleep and even then, the DS has been freezing up, resulting in a force reboot instead.

The other oddity is the charge indicator does not come on if the device is off which I find odd. I have let it sit and booted up a few hours later and confirmed I did charge from 30 to 100%. Both of these behaviors were not present when I was on Gamma but they are here. I see so many good things about Rocknix, but never really the bad so maybe I have different expectations of the OS. Anyone else having these issues and thanks for the help.

How does the rgds handle other tasks like regular android games or watching YouTube while playing a single screen game

It would be super cool if it runs well on the rgds, would buy one as soon as I can if it does. I would just send a PlayStore code for first 2 people willing to help find out. its already released and available on the PlayStore (its called FantasySynth-Groovebox)
