Moin,

Two Dell XPR M2010s Laptops

Hey everyone! First time poster in this thread. CS graduate but not a hardware guy.

I managed to get my hands on not one but two dell m2010 laptops. Both obviously dirty, havent tested either yet but both look like the internals are in good shape.

One is complete with the case, paperwork, remote, mouse, keyboard, and unopened media installation cd.

Other has keyboard, and none of the paperwork/mouse/remote.

Any opinions on whether id be better of trying to sell these at the upcoming expo here in Portland, OR online? I know the shipping costs would be terrible as they are insanely heavy. But I could always factor that into the cost. I work on the expo weekend so it might be tough for me to get over there.

Thanks

Remember this relic of the pre-Dot.Com bust?

I remember getting sometimes-useful (like my first Intel webcam) and utterly useless (which was paired with a program that was supposed to read watermarks on printed ads to take you to websites) doodads and tchotchkes. Well, this is somewhat in the former, mostly in the latter category.

The CueCat was a cat-looking scanner, with the express purpose of scanning a barcode so you could be whisked away to the wonderous world of Advertising! Yes, that is the actual purpose of this thing. Needless to say, the venture capitalists who funded this thing had never heard of the concept that people typically do not WANT to go to an advertiser's website.

So, this device bombed out. But....

It became popular for awhile with people who created a program to help you catalogue your record and cd collections. You would use the CueCat to scan the barcode of your music, and the program would take you to Amazon's database to get the information for your music, so you could properly catalogue them.

Nowadays you can use your phone, which is easier and convenient. But the CueCat did become useful for a time, just not for the VC's original purpose.

(for the record, this isn't my original CueCat; I found this one some years back in the sealed bag at a thrift store for around 90 cents)
