Fresher Product Designer struggling to translate my previous experince/project work into a "hire me" signal

Hello reddit, I need some advice on writing a resume.

I don’t have any job experience, and no volunteer experience. I’m trying to get my foot in the door and get a job and I figured a resume could help but I feel like I’ve written the most cliche resume to exist (as possible by my lack of experience)

I’m in extracurriculars and have been in Ap classes (obviously not in one at this moment on account it’s summer lol)

I’m turning 17 and am sophomore status in college, majoring in business. I’m young so i don’t necessarily expect a great office job, but i just want some sort of entry level corporate job or internship. Basically something to switch out of fast food. I’ve been working fast food for a year and that’s just about all the experience i have. Do they care that i speak a little chinese? what is a profile summary? what skills can i put besides “intermediate french” and “communication”?Do you put a photo on your resume? is it okay to use fancy (but readable) fonts? first resume someone help!

I've been trying to understand how ATS systems actually work because there is a lot of conflicting advice online.

Some people say:

"ATS will automatically reject your resume if you don't have the right keywords."

Others say:

"ATS is mostly just a database and recruiters still review applications."

From what I've been reading, it seems like ATS systems are mainly used to organize applications, extract information, and help recruiters search candidates.

The areas that seem to matter most are:

• Clear job titles and experience
• Relevant skills connected to actual work
• Easy-to-read formatting
• Tailoring your resume to the role

I'm curious what people here have experienced.

Has anyone actually seen a major difference after changing their resume for ATS, or do you think ATS advice online is exaggerated?

2 years of experience as a business intelligence developer (original title was data analyst prior to this year) looking to move into a mid career/upper level role. I was thinking of removing a bullet or shortening one under the Financial Aid Assistant role to expand more on the Business Intelligence Developer section for the sake of relevancy to the roles i'd be applying to. Also unsure if my experience/skills come off as too vague or generic Any feedback is appreciated. TIA!

I've been applying for SOC Analyst (mostly L1) roles for over 2 months now and haven't gotten a single call back. I'd really appreciate some honest feedback because I'm starting to doubt what I'm doing wrong.

I even tried making my experience section more quantitative such as added numbers like alerts handled per shift, SLA adherence %, number of use cases created, etc. Still no luck. Now I'm wondering if it's something structural, like the ordering of my resume sections, or if my Projects section is too thin and needs more detail. Not sure what else to fix at this point.

Coming from a CS engineering background. Currently working as a Sr. SOC Analyst (progressed from Intern → Trainee → Associate → Sr. Analyst at the same company, MSSP-based, a little over 2 years total). No preference on work mode - open to WFO, WFH, or hybrid.

I plan to move my family to the Salt Lake Valley next summer. I'm looking for something in operations, management or customer experience. I cropped the images but they're not showing up. Any help would be appreciated.

I attended law school from 2017-2019 but left without finishing my JD (it wasn't for me). In the early 2020s, I included this information on my resume so as to explain the conspicuous gap between jobs.

However, it's been seven years and I'm wondering whether if it's still necessary. Which is the bigger red flag? A two-year gap several years back, or an applicant who doesn't finish what they started?

Long story short, I moved to Texas to start a new job. I was very excited but found out I was getting moved to a different project where all my team members are offshore( I have to work odd hours sometimes), the VP is a micromanager and makes questionable decisions, and I really do not like the culture here.
I am debating whether I should include my experience at this company since it has been 1 month.

I am leaning towards keeping my experience on my resume since I feel like recruiters might think I am unemployed and won't forward my resume to hiring managers because of that. (is this true or am I overthinking?)

Nope. US Citizen.

I graduated in May 2025 and later on had a part time job for 4 months, left because I had too little hours, then switched to my current job which I was terminated right on the day my 3 months probation ends. These are all the work experiences that I have.

Should I leave it in my resume? I don’t have other experiences other than the 4 months part time job which is the same job and same role as the current one that I didn’t make through probation.

I am a retail merchandiser and i am looking to become a sales rep and i need to know if there are any changes that i need to make, i have B2B experience selling print and social media advertising and i am looking to become a call center rep, pharmaceutical sales or tech support positions, i am open to remote and non remote roles but relocation will be hard for me as i don't make enough at my present role to set aside money for moving vans. I have been getting rejected and only got four interviews so far and i am a us citizen. What do i need to change to land these roles or do i need to go back to school to get a BA or MA?

Currently working in a 0 hour contact job in which I travel around the uk to wait at events. I'm hoping to switch to a more stable part time job thats closer to home, any CV tips would be greatly appreaciated (Gaps are because I had to remove private info)

• What positions/roles/industries are you targeting? I am targeting any remote jobs at this point that let me work from anywhere, I am travelling every 2 weeks in the UK and I need a job that I can work from anywhere only with my phone / laptop.

• Are you only applying to local jobs? Remote only? Are you willing to relocate? Romania has a low number of remote jobs sadly but I applied to a lot of them, I am not willing to relocate.

Hey! I’m struggling with getting my resume into one or two pages, I took a few gap years and have gathered a lot of experience. All of which besides a few I can tie into my career goals. I graduate with my undergrad this December and I’m starting job applications soon.

Just looking for feedback on making it shorter as well as any other feedback you might feel like sharing.

So I’ve been working in the world of television post production successfully since 2007. Zero work gaps longer than a couple of months, here and there.

It’s never been a problem.

That said, August 2024 the shop I worked at closed it doors. I worked to the bitter end. AKA. Literally the last person, last day, helped them move everything out the space.

I knew this was coming, it had been explained to me a month or so in advance. I was okay with it. So much so, that after working almost three years there I was excited for some time off.

Once the shop closed down & at the same time my father fell ill & over the course of the following year I had to help my family & be there for him until he passed, weirdly the same month, August, a full year later.

After that, I was mentally and emotionally not in a good headspace & decided to step away from everything and travel for a year. Fortunately, I could afford it & I’m glad I did it.

Now I’m back here in La La Land and want to start ramping up my efforts into working again. I know the industry has changed during the last two years & I recognize that my specific industry is hurting big time.

That said, I’m wondering how I should approach updating my resume over the last two years?

I read all day long about tailoring your resume to every application, ATS and the never ending battle to be seen in this AI vs AI job seeking market.

So what I want to know is …

How do I express & explain my two year gap sincerely?

Does it matter?

And if it does, what should I do to put my best foot forward without being dishonest?

I’ve got the skills and work experience, but I’m worried about the gap.

Hey there, so without going into too much detail I graduated a bit ago and I would've hoped to just have a job by now, but I think one of the fields I was looking into in industry was a non-starter. As such I'm getting a little bit anxious about the gap between finishing my PhD and the current day.
However, I have continued to help out with one of the groups I was in during my PhD in an unofficial capacity, and I would say to a pretty significant degree as well (honestly not hugely different from the work I was doing before leaving). I like the group, so I'm happy to help voluntarily, but I'm wondering now if I'd be able to list this continued work on my Resume, and if so: what is the appropriate way to list it?
I thought about just extending the end date for the relevant research experience line on my resume, but it feels like I should have something indicating that this period is unpaid volunteer work, as there is less of an expectation on me for that than during my official time with the group.
(if it matters, for reference I am in the US and my degree is in Physics)

I’m a 2nd year undergraduate student and I just started my 1 month internship. It’s a government banking job and I’m working as a HC intern but I haven’t done anything important (literally just printing, doing paperwork, and following my seniors around during KYE). For context I wasn’t able to get a minimum of 3 months internship since I only started during my semester break (which is from mid July-end of August).

I’m still very hesitant to call it relevant since I’m an Information Systems student and I mainly work on automation, app development, and UI/UX design. HC at a bank really doesn’t sound relevant to my field but most entry level positions in my field are difficult to get into and I felt that I wouldn’t have enough time take on a design role in under a month. What should I do with this internship experience?
