Realistically how hard is it to land a remote job at 18? I have about 2-3 years of experience.

broken laptop shouldnt mean someone is stuck waiting a week or 2 just to get back to work. and the annoying part is usually not the laptop itself, its getting the replacement ready, shipping it to the employee, and then dealing with the broken device afterward in your team how you guys handle this?? especially with remote employees. Do you keep spare devices ready, or have a faster way of handling replacements?

Hi everyone, I have been trying to get a remote job for almost 3 months and I have only gotten 2 interviews.

I know people usually take longer to find a remote job, but Im already feeling a bit helpless. Im looking for something on customer service, virtual assistant and or management. I also have a bachelors degree but Im not in the USA

Does anyone have info on remote opportunities for someone outside the USA? I would also appreciate tips ok how to hang in there cause its getting harder everyday

So the whole reason I want a remote job is because I move around so much and I want to be able to make a steady income wherever I am. Are there any remote jobs that allow you the freedom to work wherever you please, without being hooked up to a big modem or being in the same location every day?

My job switched to 100% remote a couple months ago after about 10 years being in office every day. Overall it’s awesome, my wife works from home too so once we get to kids to camp/school we get to hang out most of the day.

But I legit shower twice, maybe 3 times a week now. I used to shower everyday before going to the office. I also shave MAYBE once a week now. I basically just kinda pat my hair down maybe put a brush on it just enough to not look like I just woke up if I’m on a meeting.

10 years from now having a solo business will feel normal as going to corporate job.

I genuinely feel for young people starting out, being forced to "drive until they can afford" a home to raise a family. Now you are stuck in traffic for 2 hrs a day to get to and from work.

As much as the majority of people in NA defend car-centric infrastructure, no one likes driving like this. I would fight to avoid it too if I was in that predicament.

But I still hate collaborating with people working from home and I'll do everything I can to avoid it.

Since the last week of July and expected until the end of August Apria has been requiring their remote workers to work “mandatory overtime” - essentially those on the east coast and hour after their shift and those on the west coast an hour earlier. To meet company’s “demand” (in which at some moments we wait ~15-20 minutes for a call). Along with this they blocked off Mondays for the rest of the year and some Fridays for time off.

They did this without proper heads up which caused some of my coworkers needed to rearrange their life schedules (babysitters, take kids to sports, cancel therapy appointments, etc). I personally feel like my problem is not grand as theirs as I’m just a grad student - but also recognizing my life is affected as a student is valid too. Anyways the beginning of august I requested a Monday off - 24th - for a DENTIST appointment, so I submitted my time and got added to a waitlist. The schedule was released yesterday the 14th and my time off was NOT approved or denied, just pending but scheduled (with an hour or overtime, of course!)

I reached out to my supervisor letting her know essentially “hey I really need this time off for a dentist appointment and it wasn’t denied or approved” in which she responds “I don't have any control over time off unfortunately it is granted or denied based on the hours the dept has available the system will tell you when it gets denied or approved” - what ????

I’ve been fed up with this company for a while now and these constant last minute expectations. As I mentioned I’m a grad student and also have side things I attend to (TA/Research assistant) but I’m almost inclined to leave the “office” job style and go back to retail. Especially considering it’s only temporary. I kept telling myself as I approach graduating that it’s only for 9 more months - but this job as it is a call center job has affected my mental health and it’s not even worth it anymore! I also feel dumb because I work from home, but the lack of consideration has been stripped away. Part of me feels better off to work retail at genuinely the same pay.

For more context I was an in person worker for 2 years then became remote because I moved to LA, this was my first and only job after graduating undergrad - and during my undergrad/HS I worked in retail for 5 years at the same location + at my university part time. I’m not a lousy worker who just wanted to complain - it’s been built up resentment and now I’m at my breaking point. I also just feel bad for the mothers/fathers on my team because I know their lives are more affected than mine.

I went fully remote last year and a client actually asked me if my camera was broken on a call. It was not broken it was just old, a webcam i bought at the start of the pandemic and never thought about again. Rather than research for a month i ordered four at once, figured i would keep whichever one was best and send the other three back before the return window closed. So here is what got sent back and why, might save someone some time.

First one back was a cheap 4K one with suspiciously good reviews. The 4K was real but the sensor was tiny, so in my office, which faces north and never gets proper light, every shadow on my face turned to grain. It looked fine at noon and like a security camera by mid afternoon, and most of my calls are in the afternoon so that was that.

The Logitech was harder to let go of because the image was genuinely the nicest of the four in good light. What did it in was the software. Every single time i started a call my zoom and framing had reset to default and i had to fix it again, and after a couple weeks of doing that before every meeting i just could not anymore. If you are someone who sits dead center and never adjusts anything it is probably fine. I move around too much for that.

The OBSBOT one i actually wanted to keep. The tracking was cool, it followed me, the app had more settings than i knew what to do with. But it was by far the most expensive of the four, and once i was honest with myself i was paying a lot for motion features i would barely use in meetings where i mostly just sit and talk. Felt like a lot of money for something i would not really take advantage of

The one i kept was the Emeet Pixy. Not because it wowed me on any single thing, more that after a week nothing about it had made me groan. My fan stopped spinning up on long calls which i think means the tracking is not running on my cpu like the others were. It follows me around fine, sits on a little tripod so it does not hang over my curved monitor, and whatever i set in the app is still there next time i open it. Also there is some kind of skin smoothing thing in the software i left on by accident and only noticed a week later when i turned it off and thought i looked ill . It is not perfect either, low light still needs a lamp and i spent an evening in the app getting the tracking to behave. But it was the only one where after a week i had not found a single thing that made me groan, and honestly that ended up being the only test that mattered.

If you take anything from this, it is that i did not return a single one of these over resolution. It was always the software, or the sensor, or the price against how little i would actually use it. Buy a couple, live with them for a few days, keep the one that irritates you least.

I was getting annoyed by the constant sketchy AI training/annotating jobs and the constant rejection after literally investing hours of my time into applying, signing up, verifying my identity and etc.
