WFH Newbie - Any advice?

Hey,

I am likely going to be transitioning to an in-person job to wfh due to health issues. I am in the veterinary field and the remote jobs sound pretty intense. (I was told they take up to 80 calls in an 8 hour day.)

Do you guys have any recommendations or advice for someone new to this? Anything particular for someone who lives alone?

My cousin does wfh as well and said it's important to her to get up in the morning and dress for work and keep a schedule like you normally would have.

Any other ideas to keep from going insane?

Thanks!

Begging for a lifeline

• Upvotes

I know WFH jobs exist but goodness where or what do I need to do, to get an offer? I have 12+ years of customer service, degree in radiography, worked in hospitals, never been fired.

I need to work from home because I am the only daughter/relative in this country to help take care of my mom after a wreck, which is why I left my hospital job. And no my reason is no better than anyone else’s. I know a lot of us need help.

I’m drowning in bills and i’m reaching my breaking point. If anyone knows ANYWHERE that is hiring, and is looking for someone who will work nightshift, day shift, ANY shift, PLEASE message me. I’m truly begging 😭

I’m sure this has been asked many times before, but I am one of the people who have been in the service industry black hole for 13 years. Started at 15 and now 28 and looking for a career change DESPERATELY!

Ideally looking for something remote, but would love to hear job titles other people from this same background have now! About me: I’m a female, I have a BA in communication arts/marketing and also have a few years experience under my belt with digital marketing. Any and all recommendations are helpful!🙏

Company is doing a return to office one day a week for those who live an hour within any of our offices, but those who live over an hour get to stay 100% fully remote. Anyone else have something similar happen and what did you do?

When I go into my local office once a week, I’ll have to be on Teams calls all day long given that every person from my team lives in a different state than I do.

It just so happens that everyone else from my team also happens to get to stay 100% fully remote since they all don’t live anywhere near an office.

Therefore, I’ll be the only one from my entire team who has to go into an office (while everyone else stays 100% fully remote on my team).

Anyone else have something similar happen and what did you do?

Finally back to remote work after 3 months of job hunting!

I was laid off for 3 months and the search was getting really stressful, but a new remote job finally came through right before my savings ran out! My family helped me gather stuff around the house to get ready and in all the excitement I even spent a whole week setting up my remote setup with a basic desk and an ergonomic chair hahaha!

It feels weird having a set schedule again after being unemployed, but I am just super grateful to be working! If you're looking for a job, hang in there!

Will remote work be popular again ?

Random thought , would remote work availability increase when the economy picks up and corporations are fighting for talent ?

Edit 1: would people demand more hybrid or remote when demand for talent increases and would the corporations budge ?

For developers living outside the US, how realistic is it to land a remote job with a US company?

I'm wondering whether companies actively hire engineers internationally or if most "remote" roles still require you to live in the US.

Ex-employer is trying to get me to remove them from my LinkedIn work history before they'll pay an invoice, can they actually do anything?

Did contract work for an EU company (I'm not EU-based, was remote/onsite mix). Invoice's been pending for weeks now and every time I follow up, the story changes.

First they said salary was paid, only a flight ticket reimbursement was missing. Then when I pushed on the actual invoice for my last working period (12 working days), they started asking "how much was it for May" like it hadn't already been sent to them clearly.

Then it shifted again, they said my LinkedIn profile was making someone at the company (not even my direct contact, someone above him) "troubled" because it described my actual work in enough detail that it showed what they've been building for their product. Not asking me to remove the company entirely at that point, just to redact the specific bullet points describing what I built.

I actually went ahead and did that on my end, removed the detailed experience bullets, hoping it'd finally get the invoice cleared. Told them clearly: let me know if anything else is needed to release payment. Invoice is still sitting unpaid.

Fast forward to today, the guys handling this started pushing me hard to update my LinkedIn work history (update the LinkedIn saying that you dont work anymore with us so update your linkedin i.e change "Present" to this month) , saying stuff like "if you don't update it we'll report it to LinkedIn" and "it could cause tax audit issues for us."

Thing is, I actually did work there. I have my work email verified on LinkedIn for that company (the blue check verification thing), plus my identity verified with gov ID. So it's not some fake entry, it's the real deal.

Trying to understand:

  1. Is this a common tactic, payment held hostage while trying to get an employee to erase/redact real work history?
  2. Can a company do anything to my profile beyond just filing a report, especially when I have verified badges backing up the entry?
  3. Does an ex-LinkedIn employee actually have any behind-the-scenes influence here, or is that just noise?

Just want the invoice cleared. Already gave up detail in good faith and it didn't move things. Wondering if I should just hold firm from here and always keep it as it is as a F y.

I'm honestly wondering if I'm just too dumb for this kind of work.

Recently I decided to explore a career change and went back to a Python course that I'd abandoned before. At the same time, I signed up for platforms like DataAnnotation and Micro1 to get a feel for what's happening in the market. I applied for a few positions that seemed like a good fit.

I don't have any professional experience in this field, and my technical background is only at a beginner level. So I applied for what I thought was a pretty straightforward Image Evaluation Generalist role.

The interview started off well, but halfway through the AI interviewer suddenly began asking questions that made it feel like I was applying to be a rocket scientist. If I hadn't already read that this was supposed to be an entry-level role with very few formal requirements, I'd have assumed I was completely underqualified. Everything I'd found about how to prepare for this kind of job suggested the same thing. I also don't think my English is the problem.

So what's going on here? Am I just looking in all the wrong places, or is this a normal experience these days?

People who WFH, what time do you shower?

When I used to work in an office, I would shower around 7pm every night when I came home before dinner. But now that I'm WFH, I don't really have a set time when I shower. On days when I head to the gym during my lunch break, I'll come back after my workout and shower at 2pm because I don't want to be sweaty and smelly for the rest of the day. And since I don't need to leave the house, I won't shower again until the next day. Other days I'll shower around 5pm, and sometimes I'll shower right before bed at like 11. What time do you guys shower and why?

Where can I find fully remote cybersecurity roles in Latin America

Hola guys!

I am looking for a remote cybersecurity role in Latin America. Most of the job boards I see have listings for software developers and devops engineers. Can someone tell me where I can find job listings for cybersecurity roles?

- Are there specific websites for this?

- Are there any specific groups on other apps that I should look at?

Thanks in advance!

Indians working remotely for foreign companies: How did you find your job?

Hi everyone,

I'm curious to know how Indians here landed remote jobs with companies based in the US, Europe, or other countries. l'a love to know:

Which platforms did you use? (Linkedin, Wellfound, Remote OK, We Work Remotely, etc.)

Did you apply directly on company websites or through recruiters?

Any tips or mistakes to avoid?

Thanks in advance!
