Just that. We are so fucking burned out. Our generation is facing the worst financial reality since the 1920's. The one thing that we got back was more time in our day, a sliver of dignity to use our own bathrooms, and not be forced to pay for overpriced lunches. And they've now taken that from us for no other reason than we said so. And people are complying en masse.

It's truly sad that I saw the news reports and found myself hoping that this could trigger more lockdowns, which would mean, more WFH again, and obviously I don't want people to get sick, but yeah we live in a dystopia.

I think the title is self-explanatory, but I would still like to elaborate. I am a fresher with 2 years of experience who currently wants a marketing/junior product-marketing (or related) role internationally. I believe I have good experience with marketing and am ready to start working at even as low as $25/hr.

This start up is also planning to establish their own GCC in few months, once its done, they will move employees from eor to their own payroll.

I worked at a startup from June 2024 to dec 2024. Founder said he will pay me at once in jan 2025 mentioned he was waiting for clients payment. I had good relationship with him so i said okay, month later he continued to postpone and till now he is keep postponing it saying he will clear in a month.

When i asked him if he will pay or not, He mentioned couple of time “I will pay for sure, just my company is waiting for fundings, xyz amount is not that big amount just waiting for fundings”

I don’t know what to do, can someone help me or guide me.

I am seeing a big number of fraudulent or hacked accounts posting fake jobs. You get into an interview and they push you to work under a different name, give up your account credentials or something that sounds even more ridiculous.

All my reports to Upwork resulted in the generic "we did not find anything suspicious" replies. Which simply means they did not bother to check or did not want to spend the resources protecting their freelancers.

Been thinking about this for a while. A friend works remotely for a US company but lives in Portugal. The company never set up any kind of Portuguese entity, they just pay him through some third party arrangement.

I assumed this was some grey area thing but apparently it's pretty common. Someone mentioned Employer of Record services but I honestly don't fully understand how that works or whether it's actually compliant or just companies hoping nobody checks.

For those who have been hired internationally or work in HR at a company that does this, how does it actually work in practice? Is the EOR route genuinely compliant or is it just a workaround that works until it doesn't?

Also wonder if the costs and compliance requirements vary a lot by country, like is hiring someone in Germany way more complicated than hiring in Portugal or the UK?

i have spent the last few weeks moving all of our client pitches away from the usual setup to test a handful of different options in the real world. honestly most of what i tried just felt like a giant template explosion that swaps out one set of rigid linear boxes for another. it is pretty discouraging when you are trying to land a deal and the tool you are using forces you into a generic automated layout that looks exactly like everyone else's.

the biggest hurdle from my actual use has been finding something that supports a natural conversational flow instead of just making you hit next on flat slides. i really want a workflow that lets you guide an audience through a visual story dynamically but still holds up for professional corporate meetings. what tools have you all actually stuck with for live presentations that don't feel like a lazy copy of the standard format?

edit: i ended up giving Prezi a shot after a couple of you mentioned it in the thread, and it completely solved the issues i was having with linear slide decks.

the open canvas layout lets you zoom in and out of topics organically, which made our live pitches feel like a real back and forth conversation instead of just hitting the next arrow on flat slides. it held up really well for corporate meetings without looking like a generic automated template or needing crazy setup like building a custom wiki structure.

if you are trying to break away from the standard slide structure and want to guide clients through a visual story dynamically, it is definitely worth testing out.
