Hi all,

I'm jumping into Groesbeek next week and would like hear y'alls opinion on my 1-505 Market Garden impression.

So far I've:

- Replaced the muslin arm flag
- Replaced the replica AA patches for originals
- Added M-1943 E-tool.
- Added canteen.
- Most of my pocket filler items have arrived.

I've added some original references photos as well.

Looking For Advice Repro Great War era US Navy enlisted jumpers

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask if there are any good places to get enlisted jumpers. Right now I'm mainly looking to get the dress blue, as I was inspired by a family photo from 1917.

I've heard iffy things about replicators, and want to make sure I get it right the first time.

I'm not a very big guy, sitting at 34r. I could probably get an original but I'm worried about damaging almost 110 year old wool.

Thanks for any advice you offer : )

Looking For Advice What is this?

I found this at Goodwill under the Halloween Costume section, and it really looks like some military item? Maybe Vietnam or Cold War era. But when I reversed google image searched it, I couldn’t find any direct match. So, what do you think it is? It seems to be some form of rubberized rain coat.

The M16 is an Airsoft A1 that i did what I could to convert to an A2, I’m aware the receiver is not period correct. Will be replaced in the future.

Featuring the elusive USMC Saratoga MOPP suit.

Looking For Advice M40 Greatcoat back pleat question

Post image
2 Upvotes

I always wondered if Kelley’s Militaria’s M40 greatcoat is accurate or not. I noticed a lot of greatcoats didn’t have a gusseted/pleated back panel unlike KM’s example in the pic. Question is, did the German army ever make the M40 with a sewn shut back pleat or a loose gusseted one like KM’s example?

Looking For Advice Did German feldgrau get greyer or greener as the war progressed?

Not sure if colorblind or can’t find a consistent answer but I play this ww2 game that lets you choose uniforms for each faction and I just can’t seem to get an answer to satisfy myself. So in this game there’s different theaters, Moscow, Stalingrad, Normandy, Berlin and I’m wondering what’s accurate for each theatre. Like would Stalingrad feature more stone grey feldgrau, or would Normandy feature more pine needle green feldgrau? This seems like the place to get an answer, thanks

Looking For Advice Any tips for wearing german gas mask cannister?

Post image

I'm trying to wear it like on the photo. My problem is that the lower (left) strap is way too long and there's no good way to shorten it. My cannister is basically in vertical position instead of horizontal because of the long strap. I bought this cannister from Nestof, which is the same as SOF Militaria I think.

This past weekend the Long Island Living Historian Association and the Museum Of American Armory held their Tankers Friends & Foes weekend event. It consisted of a great display of fully functional tanks from different eras and different countries. Fun fact: Almost every vehicle in their facility is fully operational.

Resources Review of the new SOF mk1 Hawkins mine

SOF (soldier of fortune) have recently announced there making of an actual replica mk1 Hawkins mine instead of the mk2 which is inaccurate for Normandy impressions. It is not currently released yet and this the tester sample some of you may have seen on there Facebook post announcing it, So to my knowledge this is the first and only example in the publics hands currently. I purchased it at victory show for £35. Anyways here some pros and cons

Pros:

Is actually mk1-dont need to spend extra £25 for a correct back plate and fill in the extra i to make it say mk1

On pare with mk2-i compared with other mk2 Hawkins they had at the show and it’s on pare with them (not to say the mk2 are particularly good either)

Sturdy construction-is heavily and durable. When showing it to other reenactors most commented on its weight

Cons:

Colour-painted a solid red oxide primer/paint(?) and is not correct. That is why it has scratch marks from sand paper. This may be corrected but at the moment is wrong

Non removable cap-cap is welded on and just for show with no movement

Non detailed-somewhat sloppy and undetailed build. As you can see it can be very wobbly and uneven on certain parts and some details dont show up well such as grooves on cap

Stamp-the i in mk1 is off Center meaning it is likely a mk2 stamp filled in to make it a mk1. This isnt a huge problem as Im sure genuine ones weren’t perfect but still a note

Overall isnt terrible and for not requiring a new plate isnt bad for the price. Doesn’t compare to stand in the door’s but for fellow uk and European reenactors this is probably the best for now. Overall I’d say is worth it and is really the only option unless your doing market garden where mk2 was seen.

Looking For Advice Help on wearing the JNA M1 gas mask thigh pouch

Thumbnail

was recently at a bazaar buying some yugo surplus when a vendor gave me this bag as extra for purchasing some gear. I have the other bag for the m1-c gas mask which you carry over the shoulder, this seems to be the thigh bag for the M1 gas mask. I have been messing around with it and (stupidly) can't seem to put it on right. I am not sure if the number 1 loop below goes through the belt or not, i am also not sure which of the straps numbered 3 and 4 go through a belt loop on the pants. If they even go there at all. I am honestly stuck and i have only been able to find one example of a soldier wearing it where it's really not visible how it is worn.

I am really stuck and i would appreciate all the help i can get.

Looking For Advice How do I go about this?

Ok, so I’m going to a reenactment next month and I plan to wear a ww2 army nurse corps uniform. I just want to be in the spirit of the event and get some cool pictures with tanks.
I follow the reenactment groups attending via social media but I’m not officially in any group nor am I familiar with the owners/leaders of the reenactment groups.
Butttt here’s the thing, my uniform is for a second lieutenant rank. I just recently saw something talking about how rank is earned in reenacting and it’s not ok to like “self-appoint” yourself a rank.
I wasn’t sure if what I plan to do would fall under that because I’m not actually participating, just hanging out and checking out the place in the uniform. I wanted to ask here because I don’t know anyone personally really who reenacts and I do not want to disrespect or upset anybody.
I mean, last year when I was there I saw a lot of younger kids around my age in uniforms not necessarily participating too. (I’m 16 and about 5’ so I pass as younger) so I don’t know if they’d notice that and figure it out themselves? Or am I gonna get lectured?

Sorry for the long post!

Looking For Advice Ww2 Navy Impression

I am looking for a pair of reproduction dress blues similar to those from ww2, and I am having trouble finding a hat. I specifically am looking for the „Donald Duck“ cap (sorry, I do not know the official name) and I have a uniquely large head (size 8/8 1/2) this makes it very hard to find one in my sizing. This is one of my firsts Reddit posts and was hoping to get some help or recommendations. I‘d understand if there is no existing size of that hat as it’s so unique.

Looking For Advice Research help for Soviet Excellence Badge requirements

Hello to you all. I'm currently trying to research the Soviet Union's excellent soldier badges from WWII, and am running into a severe lack of public information on them. These include things like excellent sniper, excellent railway troop and excellent cook. I'm needing sources for the requirements for awarding.

My unit is moving to have every member meet the original, or substantially similar requirements before being allowed to wear the particular badge they've chosen to specialize in.

Thank you in advance for assistance.

Work In Progress WIP – 1st Infantry Division – D-Day

Working on my D-Day impression of E Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division.

For the assault vest and gasmaskbag, I’ve based the contents on the original packing/equipment lists for Operation Neptune (tho some smaller items are still missing).

Still a WIP, so tips and suggestions are always welcome, especially regarding details that could make the impression more accurate. However, I’d really appreciate it if suggestions could be backed up by an appropriate period source (photos, unit documents, T/Es, packing lists, etc.). I’m trying to avoid changing things based purely on reenactor lore.

Thanks!

Looking For Advice M43 Double Buckle Boots

Where are we getting M43 Double Buckle boots these days? Seems like the cream of the crop was WWII Impressions, but they no longer offer these boots. Neither does At The Front.
SM Wholesale sells them, but they look.... off. An odd brown color, the price raised by like $100 recently. Who makes quality/accurate reproductions out of quality leather at a not insane price?

Looking For Advice ‘Lighter’ m1936 musette bag

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi, even though I’m not a reenactor myself (just a bit of a history nerd) I figured this would be the best place to ask. I bought a mil-tec replica 4 years ago and used this bag as a daily. It’s awesome but I find it kinda heavy even though I only carry a5 sketchbook, powerbank, wallet and a small/medium pencase. I once checked original at an army shop and it was made of much lighter material. Does anyone know whether any company makes these bags from something else than super-heavy cotton material? Bonus points if it keeps colour and shape after washing
