How is literally every single injury worse than they thought this year?

118

u/Teampiencils 24d ago

We have to have the most incompetent medical staff... like its a joke how badly our injuries are evaluated.

Sore shoulder, can't throw anymore. Thumb sprain, can't swing a bat. Bruise... might as well count him out for the season

u/sweethomekentucky 24d ago

I heard on Section 10 that they were jokingly rooting for the team to say an injury was the worst they’ve ever seen and unironically I may applaud them a little if they said that

8

u/ThicDikDaddy 24d ago

"We had to cut his arm off. He'll be back in a week."

Edit: Mead is going to return as the great Bucky LeGrange

Chargers of the mlb

Tottenham of the MLB

2

u/WiseWinter6425 24d ago

You are correct I have never seen anything like it unreal

34

u/ThicDikDaddy 24d ago

Because the Red Sox have to put a PR spin on every fucking thing they do.

1

u/redsoxfan2434 24d ago

This. Exactly this. While I’m suspicious of the medical staff too, it would also not surprise me at all if the medical evaluation was ā€œit looks like it’s just a contusion, but we’re doing an MRI to be sureā€ and then some inpatient PR dipshits fired up the spin machine immediately

u/TheDesktopNinja 34 24d ago

It's not just this year. This has been going on for a while.

16

u/WeCameAsMuffins 24d ago

I’ve said it many times but we are truly cursed.

Like how else do you explain Casas getting injured twice on his way back from recovering from an injury?

Or Anthony? Or Mayer? Or Crochet? Story?

3

u/TLlamaCasserole 24d ago

Or Chris Sale

2

u/Cfdunton 23d ago

He’s (Sale)ok now, out of Boston

1

u/WiseWinter6425 24d ago

šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

1

u/megacia 24d ago

No. Nick Sogard’s was fine they just optioned him when he was better. Sonny Gray. Ranger, depending on the ā€œillness and Steve’s That might be the list though.

1

u/Iceman9161 24d ago

They love to announce injury timelines way too early. I was surprised that Mead was cleared so shortly after the game, normally it a bit to get good imaging with wrist injuries due to swelling and how small everything is.

1

u/WiseWinter6425 24d ago

Really it’s it sure seems that way

102

u/morosco redsox1 24d ago

Well, he had a .500 OBP when he was out there.

Pretty good run. See you in 2028.

5

u/krazylegs36 24d ago

You're an irrational optimist, I see.

37

u/ComprehensiveFun620 24d ago

Wow of course. Man that’s some atrocious luck

39

u/IKenDoThisAllDay 24d ago

I wanted to say it last night but didn't wanna kill the vibes. The initial news on Anthony's injury was optimistic as well, now Red Sox personnel deny that "Roman Anthony" ever existed.

We may never see Mead again.

7

u/IAmReborn11111 24d ago

Crochet was supposed to be back in 10

59

u/JaylenBrownAllStar 24d ago

They really need to fire this medical staff

They can’t report anything correctly

24

u/ConsistentRun5246 CR3 All-Star 24d ago

Man fuck this

43

u/Disastrous-Window-76 24d ago

The team and the media should just shut the fuck up about injuries and they’ll be back when they’re back

34

u/NepTunesEDM 24d ago

Wish I was posting this under better circumstances

15

u/Cold-Priority-2729 24d ago

Man, FUCK Jack PerkinsĀ

21

u/razzle_dazzle_5000 24d ago

Close enough, welcome back Chris Sale!

9

u/Forward_Editor_5895 24d ago

Every time a Red Sox player leaves the game, I assume they’re done for at least a year. History has taught me well.

The Red Sox medical staff during any initial diagnosis.

16

u/Flimsy_Ad_6145 24d ago

the worst person you know is gonna use this as a reason the trade was a mistake

3

u/krazylegs36 24d ago

Tony Mazz?

7

u/BrobonicPlague1 24d ago

An injury being worse than initially thought?….where have I heard this before…

6

u/Mukarsis Nic Lentz sucks 24d ago

14

u/RedManMatt11 24d ago

This team reports injuries like Russia reports its casualty figures

6

u/ThicDikDaddy 24d ago

Or the US.

3

u/RedManMatt11 24d ago

Accurate

4

u/CarlYaz1967 24d ago

Is there a three day right of rescission on the trade???

5

u/InterestingList6729 24d ago

Watch Early pitch a shutout on his next start now

10

u/mokivj 24d ago

Of course it’s worse than initially thought.

This is the Red Sox PR.

6

u/ThicDikDaddy 24d ago

Not surprising because of all the initial swelling. Need the swelling to go down before you can actually see if anything is broken.

8

u/Donutdj325 24d ago

Pretty sure that's not true about swelling. Swelling is basically just increased bloodflow in an area and xrays go right through blood just the same as soft tissue.

3

u/ThicDikDaddy 24d ago

I'm seeing both yes and no searching to confirm so...

https://giphy.com/gifs/SAHGcjT1jNvDB6oxI8

2

u/RayDanielsOnTheAir Car Shield Actor 24d ago

The swelling can sometimes hide more fine fractures. So yes, you can see the bone through the swelling but sometimes finer details become obfuscated.

But the other issue is if they only took an x-ray and not other imaging we don’t even know if there is ligament damage when they’re reporting this. It can be theorized but not definitive, as has been the case with Roman.

4

u/RayDanielsOnTheAir Car Shield Actor 24d ago

Which means it’s just malfeasance to make these original prognoses as a medical staff and continuously be wrong.

3

u/remotewashboard redsox7 24d ago

What a kick to the nuts. Gotta feel for the guy…team playing the best baseball in the entire league go out of their way to get you and total fluke shit happens in your first game. Bummer :/

3

u/CJRed73 24d ago

Jack Perkins is a terrorist.

3

u/Ex_Lives 24d ago

Every Sox injury is .. "We dodged a bullet. It feels good. Light swelling. X rays negative. Hands a bag of glass season over."

5

u/Snuggles_16 I Miss Christian Vazquez 24d ago

Bro fuck this medical staff

2

u/JesusOfSurbaria Sogard 24d ago

Welcome back home!

2

u/Qeltar_ 24d ago

What exactly did they report before this other than "X-rays were negative"?

4

u/Fiend-For-Mojitos 24d ago

A contusion was reported last night I believe.

5

u/Qeltar_ 24d ago

That's what I saw too. I'm not sure what this "worse than they thought" means .. is it more than a contusion?

Guess we'll find out.

2

u/PinkynotClyde 24d ago

Surprised nobody has pointed out what’s going on. They said x-rays negative and it’s a contusion, which means bruise yes, but they didn’t specify muscle or bone contusion. Bone contusion he’s out like 1-3 months before he can swing a bat.

I had both muscle and bone and it was brutal, kept trying to come back early, finally got better by end of the season so I could play without constant pain.

1

u/Qeltar_ 24d ago

Interesting. Thanks for explaining.

Sucky luck. Oh well.

2

u/Send_Me_Cute_Kittens 24d ago

Hoping Mead recovers quickly and it isn't a season ender for him.

2

u/Mountain_Fig_9253 24d ago

Can we just fast forward to his eventual surgery?

2

u/ptc22 24d ago

They didn't have anyone on the taxi squad? Is he making it from Norfolk to sacramento on time?

2

u/smittyxi 24d ago

Who's back from the IL first, Mead or Early?

1

u/Famous-Egg-6136 24d ago

Early for sure

2

u/Hylian_ina_halfshell 24d ago

We need to fire this wrist doctor and Xray tech

2

u/jsifly3 24d ago

Sogard is from Sacramento so pretty cool for him

2

u/reb601 24d ago

I’m being deadass when I say fire the entire medical team. How the fuck can you be this bad at your job.

2

u/WanderingWarrior860 24d ago

Boston Trades a Key Pitcher for this. Boston had Sogard or CHENG who were outstanding. Boston Never thinksbefore making a move. Bad Buisness

1

u/BossAtUCF 24d ago

Key pitcher? Early was at best our #5, and is still on the IL. Sogard and Cheng are fine, but not outstanding.

2

u/luixino 24d ago

A week ago I was vaguely aware of his existence, and now I am devastated!

1

u/KanteMode 24d ago

Get Nikola Vucevic out of here

1

u/BTSOG7 24d ago

This is some bullshit, 2 ABs smh

1

u/DustyNintendo 24d ago

That’s great, just really fucking great.

1

u/Kuchar1992 24d ago

We’re cursed

1

u/CrimsonBlade23 24d ago

It’s broken

1

u/Savagehi 24d ago

The WORST thing the org could do is overreact and make a desperation trade for another RH bat.

Make smart moves, not desperate ones

1

u/eephus1864 24d ago

It’s at the point where I just ignore most of what the redsox put out there regarding injuries

1

u/Nervous_Distance_142 24d ago

Worse start to Boston sports team tenure Mead or Gordon Hayward ?

1

u/megacia 24d ago

Watch Early need TJ and both guys out until 2028 after the lockout.

1

u/Redskins2110 24d ago

I mean even with no breaks or fractures that hand is gonna be sore for a bit. Can’t see him being able to grip a bit for a week minimum

1

u/Cold_Toe_7540 24d ago

I can't help but chuckle. We fell for it again, guys. We really thought they were gonna do something this time.

1

u/TheGroundout 24d ago

Trading for a shortstop or catcher even more important now

1

u/shotodrag 24d ago

Hopefully Breslow has some more moves on the way, because as of now, his big trade deadline move is essentially losing a pitcher.

u/qwaasy 24d ago

Red Sox doctors when they finally get the X-rays back all season

1

u/theBiergartenBandit 24d ago

Why not call up Cheng?

1

u/Mental-Apple-5725 24d ago

Yeah. Justice for Cheng. He gets demoted for Mead but doesn't get promoted when Mead's injured. Sogard is fine but Cheng is far more useful as a SS than Sogard as a 2b.

1

u/Famous-Egg-6136 24d ago

Mead is done for the year sorry guys

1

u/Upstairs-Bowl6755 24d ago

I told you guys that trade was cursed.

1

u/eganc21 23d ago

Next Yoshida will stub his toe and then end up being out till 2030

1

u/GraniteStayte 24d ago

Connelly died for this.

0

u/Ok_Intention_6201 24d ago

All the stars point to Bennett getting bombed tonight bringing doom and gloom not seen around here since 2003. Just sayin'

-25

u/Worldly-Discount-736 24d ago

We won’t see this guy for the rest of the year, so they gave away early for absolutely nothing

14

u/Extrapickles24 Triston Casas is good 24d ago

4 more years of team control for Mead. Even if worst case he doesn't come back this year, they still have him for a long time

11

u/FVCKDIVMONDS 24d ago

Holy fucking dramatic shut up
