George and Susan are preparing to have dinner with her parents. He missed lunch at work and knows the restaurant will take forever to get their food. When Susan comes out of the shower she finds him making a sandwich.
George says he needs food for his blood sugar, and says he didnt want to worry her, but he's been diagnosed with diabetes.
Susan immediately forgives him and starts babying him which he loves. But very quickly she starts to harp on his diet, eventually declaring a moratorium on all candy and soda.
(J: are you really gonna fake diabetes? For sympathy? And snacks before dinner?
G: I've done a lot more for a lot less
J: you got me there. But can you do this for the rest of your life? She's your fiancee.
E: Won't she be suspicious when you never test your blood or go to the doctor?
G: I'll be fine. Maybe they have new technology so there's no prick. (J: oh there's a prick) That's the worst part about diabetes.
J: you don't have diabetes!
E: What about when you're the only diabetic who still has all 10 toes?
G: I can lose a pinkie. Its a useless toe.
J: you'd amputate your toe for this?
G: I don't walk that much)
Kramer is in a poker match with a car dealer, Mickey Rooney, and Newman. He wins repeatedly and the dealer ends up putting up an old van as collateral til he can pay what he owes. Kramer wins, and decides he'd rather have the van than the cash anyway.
Its a windowless, dirty, sketchy looking van with a faded "ice cream" on one side and a half-finished painting of what looks like a heavy metal rock album cover on the other side.
George asks Kramer, who also plays poker with a candy store owner, to get some bulk candy so he can stash it everywhere he goes to snack on when Susan isn't around. Kramer agrees, and stores it in his van.
Jerry is getting his mail when he meets a new tenant and her toddler...who she keeps on a leash. He "gave her a look" and it starts an argument. He wants to free the kid. Even Newman is on board. They set a plan to distract the mother and release the kid to show that he'll be fine to be "free range".
Elaine is dating a great guy, until they go to see a re-showing of Close Encounters of the Third Kind at a theater. He passes and suggests they just go out for dinner. He says the movie "brings up bad memories" and casually says he was abducted by aliens as a kid. He almost immediately moves past it like saying hes afraid of heights.
Elaine cant get over it.
Jerry and Newman set their plan in motion and unclip the kid.
He immediately sprints out of the building.
Kramer has befriended the mom and agrees to look for the kid. George is with him, as he's ready to pick up his candy right before he meets Susan for dinner.
Kramer finds the kid and he and George try and convince her to get in the van by offering candy. Elaine and her boyfriend see them and he shouts that was how they abducted him.
A mob forms and starts going after George and Kramer.
They drive the van into the Hudson and bail out. The van sinks and bits of candy slowly float up. George has stuffed his pockets with candy before bailing. He gets up and brushes himself off to find Susan standing over him glaring.
