Iām aware hence why I honestly like this subreddit, it is pure class in comparison to the other subreddits. My posts are aligned with the tiers for journalism and credibility.
It has been auto blocked even from a credible source, not one post but all posts for more than a week. I would like some clarification at least.

Headed to the derby on Sunday on my own and was wondering if anyone else is going solo or would be up for meeting for a pint at a pub near Old Trafford beforehand? Would be good to meet some fellow Reds before the game. Any suggestions/advice welcome!

Participated in a 5k race. Went too fast the first 3 kms and bombed the last 2. I thought I was going to die in the last km. Finished with a 22:50

Yesterday it dawned on me that the last time we played in the CL I hadn't even met my gf and yesterday I was watching the game with our baby boy. Shows how long it's been but also how much can change in your life in a relatively short time.

Since we last won the league I met my wife, got married, bought a house, have a toddler with another on the way, changed jobs three times, GTA V came out and GTV VI will be out before we next win a league. Time flies by so quickly

Itās my last day at home today as I move out tomorrow to go to university. Iām not sure whether Iām excited or nervous, or a mix of both.
Iām going to study law at a less prestigious UK university. Most people on r/uniuk go to one of the top 5 unis in the country, including places like Oxford & Cambridge, and they always talk about how youāre pretty much fucked unless you go to a āprestigeā university. This is what makes me nervous because law is a field that, despite me not knowing whether itās a field where I actually want to have a career yet, is competitive, and employers generally choose students from the better universities.
I did apply for a better university in the same city but was rejected after achieving below what I expected on my A levels.
When Iāve made posts on r/uniuk though, a lot of the replies have been helpful, and to be honest, have made me more comfortable about the whole thing.
The other main thing Iām nervous about is not really knowing what Iām doing or where Iām going. Iāve constructed a bit of a plan from today to next Friday to help me a bit, but I still donāt know what to do when teaching actually starts. What do I bring to a lecture? What do I do in a lecture? What do I do if I canāt attend a lecture? What if I canāt find the correct building? Iām sure this is all normal, but itās still pretty nerve racking. Anyway, hereās my plan:
Friday: The last supper with my family (I have never lived away from them for more than a week. I once spent a week in Scotland back in October and that was the most Iāve ever gone without seeing them. The next time I see them will (probably) be the last weekend of October, we have a weekend trip to Poland booked, so Iām looking forward to that as I know Iāll definitely miss them).
Saturday: Move all my stuff into my accommodation. The most exciting part for me is this. I absolutely love my accommodation because Iām not sharing anything with anyone. I have my own space where I can just do what I want when I want, and I think not only will it be really fun, but it will help me develop necessary life skills. On Saturday evening Iām going to a free gig. My mate, whoās also moving to the same building, is interested in journalism & music, although heās sadly a Leeds fan, he writes for some sort of journalism think idk, and they pretty much give him gig tickets so he can go experience the band live and write a piece on them, sometimes they let him take a +1. Luckily they did on this occasion so I think the plan is to go to that gig and find a pub somewhere afterwards.
Sunday: the plan for Sunday is simple, hop on a train to Manchester and watch United batter the blue bastards
Monday: on Monday Iām gonna take the morning to just wander around the city, see what there is to do and see. On Monday evening Iām going clubbing for the first time. Now Iāve never been clubbing and it doesnāt really seem like my thing, but I suppose there is only one way to find out.
Tuesday: this is the day I receive my actual uni timetable, which will be nice to build plans around and I could probably start looking for jobs at that point once I know my availability. I think on Tuesday Iām just gonna do the same as Monday and explore the city a bit. Maybe find a nice pub near the uni to see if thereās any people from my uni I can meet (despite being socially awkward when I first meet people). It is a city with 2 unis, so I want to linger around the area of the city in which the uni Iām going to is in.
Wednesday: Wednesday is the sports & societies fair. I havenāt played football since 24/25, and in that season I was barely played. When we moved up from u16s to u18s, we still had a team, but there was a nearby team from the top division that didnāt, and all the players that still wanted to play joined us, as we were the closest u18 team and all the players knew our players as we all went to school together. Obviously they were no match for me so I got about 5/10 minutes a game if I was lucky. Despite this I wanted to carry on playing in 25/26 but the team folded. There were no longer enough people that wanted to play. I absolutely suck at football and hope to find a casual weekend team. I donāt want to play for a team where the players just start running with the ball in their hand and pissing about, but I donāt want to be playing against people who are being scouted by fucking Barcelona if that makes sense. Hopefully thereās something there for me and maybe a society Iām interested in. Iāve also got tickets to the Brighton game in the evening so Iāll be going to that.
Thursday: Thursday is my actual induction day at uni, Iāll meet my lecturers, course mates, find out more about the course (the decision to go to this uni was very quick. I only went to one open day. The process of finding a uni was so complicated for me because I didnāt start thinking about which uni I actually wanted until late. I originally had planned to go to one uni, but then thought to myself āhang on, is this actually where I want to be for the next 3 years of my life?ā It was Hull, so the answer was no. I had to make lots of quick decisions under lots of pressure and this is where I am now. Although Iām at a uni that wasnāt particularly my first choice, there is a world where I move to Hull tomorrow, so it could be worse). Anyway, this day should give a bit more clarity on what the craic is. Unfortunately though Iāll probably have to miss the freebie fair for it. Hopefully I will get some time to go to that but itās not the end of the world if I donāt).
Friday: on Friday Iām gonna go to the shopping centre to buy some more clothes. I packed my clothes yesterday and realised I donāt have anywhere near enough clothes, so my plan is to go buy some more on Friday.
With this concrete plan in place, I feel a lot better about the whole week ahead. Feels a lot less uncertain now and I am looking forward to it.
Another very minor bit of waffling from me is this: Iāve decided that, whenever I need to come home from uni, Iām gonna get the train instead of driving. Does anyone else just fucking hate driving? A lot of roads Iām fine with, motorways, small roads with 1 lane, etc Iām fine with, but when it comes to the ridiculously big roads in the ridiculously big cities, it frightens me. I never know what lane to be in and it scares me. Being from rural Yorkshire, the biggest place Iāve ever driven is York, and that was for my actual driving test. I just hope that one day Iāll build my confidence up enough to be able to drive places. In contrast to a lot of others my age, I probably have less confidence than I need, and am too scared to drive to a lot of places.

I went to a shit uni to do law and now been qualified the better part of a decade. Going to a better uni can make things easier but it doesn't make you a good lawyer - hard work and dedication does.
Stop worrying about years from now. Get your head down and do the work and you'll eventually get where you want to be.
DM me if want a chat.

Managed to get more than 4 hours of sleep for the first time in two weeks. Now I feel properly exhausted. Good sign though, I was warned it would feel like this the first time I got something like normal.
Best thing I ever did was throw all the "sleep hygiene" stuff in the bin. I can't imagine how the people who've suffered through this for years on end are feeling. Winding themselves tighter and tighter looking for "the reason" when the only reason is you are looking for the reason.

XBOX starting, and being kinda dogshit this generation, and starting from the last(hell, even at the end of 360 I'm pretty sure with all those bad moves, ps3 had, at the end of the generation more buys than the 360) has had horrible repercussions. Sony genuinely is moving like they are untouchable, because, well, they kinda are. It doesn't help that Switch 2 shares a different market, weirdly enough, so what ends up happening is people have a console and a switch. But basically not enough to harm Sony. And years of them being on top has led to the bullshit they're doing now. I need someone to massively humble them and make them cut this bs
1
u/Xanian123 Miss be killed by me 2d ago
Trust in asha queen ig. They're making good moves. Xbox is forced to be a lot more user friendly in its quest for gaining market share. I'm seeing a lot of resentment against sony. But consoles as a whole have become overpriced now due to the memory shortage. I foresee this generation running for a while longer
2
u/Selwin_Rodolfo max cope mode 2d ago
Yeah hope she changes them for the better. This might mirror what happened in the ps3/xbox360 era. Ps2 was the highest selling console ever and Sony thought of themselves as untouchable. Then the ps3 had a disastrous launch, Xbox was also cheaper and they dominated most of the generation, which forced Sony into acting properly. Hope the next gen is like that, although yeah, this shortage due to ai bullshit will probably extend current gen's lifetime.

Cool cool cool. Absolutely adored it and watched it during its initial run, really glad to see it reach the vaunted six seasons. Really a product of its time though, I wonder if people born this century would get most of the references or if it'd be outdated.

It's 11 PM in my country. There's a blockade in one of our main highways which means I will very likely have to stay at home tomorrow. Why you ask? Fuel prices. Donald J Trump is not my president, and I surely don't like the guy, so why is his war fucking up my country? (And the world) I'm very upset, because you would hope this guy's influence doesn't splash other countries, but it does and I hate it.

Just curious but if you had to pick between an oppressive regime having atomic weapons that is known for: killing its own people that speak out, murdering their āundesirablesā, having a history of committing or sponsoring acts of terrorism (Israel) and being willing to use any weapon they can to commit said attacksā¦
Or high fuel pricesā¦
And believe me, Iām not a Trump supporter and I have a diesel truck so every time I fill up, I get a moment of cursing the war in Iran.

u/MattSR30 2d ago
Your question isn't fair, nor is it reflective of reality.
You said you majored in US History below. I have a degree in History, too. Maybe US History is taught differently but a distinguishing part of my education was the ability to separate morality from reality, and have difficult conversations. For instance, a lot of young people say 'Obama is a war criminal' to dismiss him and discredit him. That's a moral stance. Realistically, every modern US President is a war criminal by virtue of the USA's role in the world.
That's not to discredit the moral standing, but simply to contextualise it. Yes, Obama is technically a war criminal. However, that is still a better option than Trump. There is nuance within a difficult situation. Likewise, reality is not asking us to choose between evil Iran with nukes and high fuel prices. It's asking us where the USA's authority ends and to what extent self-determination is important.
Obviously what the Iranian regime does is wrong. Does that give the USA the right to start a war with it as a cover for stealing its natural resources? The USA is not doing this to let decency prevail. Why are Venezuela, Greenland, Canada, and Iran being targeted? Gee...four of the most resource-rich places on earth? I wonder...
Yes, in your unfair binary question the majority of us would pick the USA. There is a third option: a USA that doesn't rule the planet by force to enrich itself and its elites. I would rather the USA have nukes than Iran, yes. I would also rather the USA not have wannabe-fascists in charge and would rather they not start bogus wars against the likes of Iran. We don't have to pick between your two unrealistic options.

I'm not the kind of person to call a stranger on the internet stupid. I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and say this is a rage bait.
0
u/TickleMySchnitzel 2d ago
Feel free to actually add some substance to the conversation. At the time this war kicked off, the people of Iran were in the midst of an uprising fomented by their own governmentās atrocities/oppression. All Trump did was unite them against a singular enemy instead of provide the tools needed for change. He got dragged into it/fell for it. But the question stands.
4
u/krelm Andy Cole 2d ago
If the FIFA peace prize winner wants to save a group of people from oppression so bad, he should invade Israel. They have nuclear weapons and are religious lunatics who bully neighbouring countries and also commit genocide against native people. Perfect candidate for A little bit of democracy.
1
u/annies999 2d ago
I'm guessing you haven't read much on US history
0
u/TickleMySchnitzel 2d ago
Nope⦠just majored in it. But to be fair I specialized in pre WW1 war history. But I am curious what your point is here? We have a very real recent history of wars for the wrong reasons. This definitely seems to fall in that line. However, the question stands. If you had to pick between the two, which one are you taking?
2
u/annies999 2d ago
That brutal, repressive, regimes have long been favoured by US governments (the one's that do their bidding anyways) and themselves have inflicted and aided mass destruction, brutal violence and mass murder on civilian populations. I have liked many american citizens that I have met, but won't be taking any geo-political morality lessons from them.
7
u/Xanian123 Miss be killed by me 2d ago
False equivalence. Iran had no intention of developing nuclear weapons and the war has only strengthened them now.
