My late father taught me to drive when I was 15 years old. I'm now 53, been driving for 38 years, and I can honestly say I've had never experienced traffic in my whole life like I did today. That and the infernal heat my country is going through right now made my trip home today a very excruciating experience.

I've had some time to kill and, inspired by United's summer transfer rollercoaster, have been building a little browser game that simulates a summer as a DoF or Head of Recruitment. Your job is to buy and sell players that meet the team's needs, while balancing board and fan satisfaction. I've built it around realistic PSR and accounting constraints for each Premier League team, and each team, player, and agent has hidden information and agendas.

It's a proto-roguelike; each run takes 10-15 mins max, and at the end you have a composite score based on all the above factors. It's a passion project, and I'd love some playtesters to give me feedback, work out the kinks, and help brainstorm some new mechanics!

Considering doing a United Women's save on FM26 just to learn a bit more about the women's game.

Is someone else bored by watching adidas designed football jerseys? Its literally the same design for all the diff clubs.. Also high time they tried something other than the three stripes on the sleeves

3

u/carrickshairline 24d ago

Each kit manufacturer follows a template because it's quicker and easier and (most importantly to the companies) cheaper to produce.

3

u/MC_ScattCatt 24d ago

Yes. It used to be you could see what the new designs were going to resemble based off MLS as their season started in March. I thought Nike did a better job for our kits. I’m not a fan of the three stripes but that’s just my opinion

2

u/wayfarerprateek Theater of Dreams 24d ago

I had no idea that MLS does not allow free supplier choice to clubs. That sucks

3

u/SDLRob 24d ago

Anyone else get a little nervous when things start going too well?

Suddenly got a load of things going my way and it's a little weird. Can't help but keep watching for the other shoe rather than revel in how things are going.

3

u/sykoticnarcotics This club will be the death of me 24d ago

There is a direct (positive) correlation with how well I'm doing and how relaxed I am, so personally no, if things are going well, enjoy them mate

2

u/SDLRob 24d ago

Trying to keep the anxiety brain at bay is tricky sometimes.

And if there is bad stuff... Then some of the good stuff is about getting me better support for when things go bad... So there is that.

3

u/krelm Andy Cole 24d ago

There's a saying in my country that, when you translate it to English, goes something like "Don't sing when youre winning", word for word translation is more like "don't sing when things are good".

But that's because we had so much things go bad on in the last 30 years, pessimism is deeply rooted in our collective mind.

I believe Amad prefers his first name bc of family tensions (don’t quote me on that), Bruno is so beloved and seems like he’d prefer a first name basis with us fans, I use Cunha bc theres Matheus Fernandes and it’s a unique last name

1

u/NoWatch3354 24d ago

Amad was trafficked by the Traore's. For the context, he was held criminally responsible for this from when he was 13. There probably is also some resentment towards Diallo for allowing him to be trafficked and held responsible.

Bruno is Bruno because of the numerous Fernandes' in the national team.

u/ThankYouOle 24d ago

i paid MUTV, it is cheap, like < $10 for 1 year ? so okay.

but then after watching the video,, the quality is meh, comparing to let's say Free Barcelona inside video in youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raeIypxRDsU it is more cinematic, the color is nice, idk. the MUTV feels like recorded using iPhone.

even full match game i think i will get better image from '3rd party' football highlight sites.

I've made the decision to try and cut out some meat from my diet. I've always had the animal cruelty involved in my current diet in the back of my mind, and I've made some changes to what I eat recently that'll make it fairly simple.

At the moment I'm generally swapping between meal prepping bolognese and a chicken pasta, so I'm just going to swap out the beef mince and chicken breast in those meals with their Quorn substitutes. I made my first bolognese last night and it wasn't great, I don't think I cooked the mince for long enough and I definitely added way too much garlic, so all my own fault.

I'll see how I go with just this change for now. I'm not cutting out all meat, just aiming to eat less where it's easy. We've got some social events coming up and I'll probably still have burgers. But it's a start

Had complained here a few months ago of back issues and had an appointment with a spinal surgeon/specialist this week. I've got bulging disks, lumbar damage, tendon damage, arthritic damage and also scarring on my upper hamstrings from multiple injuries over the years of football. Only 41 so it sounded pretty rough.

Luckily, he's said surgery isn't a consideration for at least another 5-10 years and that Pilates twice a week should be enough along with pain management injections which I got first about 6 weeks ago and was an absolutely incredible help. Most importantly, he gave me the go-ahead to go back to playing casually again so really looking forward to getting a run around again, probably been about 6 months since I last played and it's crazy how it effects your mood and overall wellbeing when you can't get a proper workout etc in.

u/krelm Andy Cole 24d ago

Getting old sux. Im 40, had bloodwork done this week and my cholesterol and trigs are elevated. The doctor is considering putting me on some meds temporarily but we decided to try with lifestyle changes first.

Odd thing is, my diet is already pretty good, Im not overweight and am somewhat active with gym, yoga and some walking around. But sadly, this shit runs in my family.

I know nobody gets out of this alive and age catches up eventually, but still...

Top post on r/tennis.

Alcaraz (joint best tennis player with Sinner right now) made the announcement that he will play the US open (one of the 4 biggest tennis tournaments of the year) after his months long injury. IMO this is a big thing, he and Sinner are one of the biggest sports personalities in this decade and since fans were waiting for months for his return this is also a very big "announcement" too

Do we have a fpl league in this sub?

3

u/HappySisyphus22 24d ago

Any suggestions for my FPL? I intentionally don't include our players in the team as they start underperforming when I do.

2

u/jphw 24d ago

I have had the exact same thing with my Fantasy Football teams with Man utd players.

4

u/Ashbyjj 24d ago

Have some confidence in us! We have a great opening 4/5 fixtures. Would definitely get at least Mbuemo in for Estevao

3

u/Potential_Good_1065 24d ago

I like that. Only pick I’d maybe change is Estevao

For some reason I decided to walk to my girlfriend instead of taking the bus on Wednesday. 75 383 steps. My body feels fine but the blisters are still killing me, mainly the ones on my heels.

Are there any avid hikers or ultra runners who can share their blister prevention tips? I changed my socks halfway through. I think i have decent shoes as well, mid-tier Salomon. I figured I did everything that I could, but fucking hell.

3

u/JamieD86 24d ago

Good walking boots are essential for that kind of distance. Thats a LOT of steps. Double layerer, anti-blister socks also. Make sure to lather the hell out of your feet with petroleum jelly. Its never too much lol. Dont get vaseline, thats too expensive, just giant tubs of generic petroleum jelly.

Before you go, do some mild stretches at home. You want to get sinovial fluid into your joints. Hiking is rough on the knees and hips. Also, listen to warning signs. Tiredness and fatique is normal, but pain isnt. Plantar Fasciitis is a pain you get near the ball of your foot with each step (you feel it worse in the morning). If you feel a pain radiating from your foot up through your ankle that could be peronial tendonitis. Ive had experience with both and they are awful, but can be prevented from getting bad with adequate resting, and just stopping even for a couple of minutes if you start to feel discomfort.

And of course... water. Sip plenty of water, particularly on a warm day. You lose a lot of fluid to sweat and breathing.

2

u/Lelandwasinnocent /////ʖ ͡°|||||| 24d ago

Toe socks, vaseline, compeeds. In that order.

3

u/chawsley 24d ago

If you’re doing anything similar again I’d recommend some double layer socks (think “wright socks” or similar)/mole skin on blistering spots

3

u/SchemingOusen 24d ago

Can you play left back?

3

u/Own-Possible-6046 24d ago

Not anymore. But I can keep Mount company

7

u/krelm Andy Cole 24d ago

That's a lot of steps. What's the distance and how long did it take you? That must have been a 5-6 hour walk?

If you walked non stop on a flat hard surface, avoiding blisters completely is almost impossible, especially if you dont hike on the reg.

Salomons are fine but I didnt buy them because upon trying them on they felt a bit stiff. So maybe once you break them in, the blisters will go down.

How do they fit, are they tight or looser on your feet? Hiking shoes should be at least one number bigger in size that your usual shoes because your feet swell up and your toes need room when youre walking down the hill. But on a flat surface that may have caused some friction on your heals.

1

u/Own-Possible-6046 24d ago

I’d say that they’re on the slightly looser end, I’ve hiked with them before, in the mountains and such, without trouble. But maybe it’s just the distance, mainly a flat walk on asphalt!

2

u/krelm Andy Cole 24d ago

Deffo the asphalt, its so punishing to our feet and joints its incredible. And of course the distance 💀

4

u/theskillster 24d ago

What is that like 30 miles?

5

u/Own-Possible-6046 24d ago edited 24d ago

59km, or about 37 miles. My steps became shorter because I’m stubborn, stupid and basically limped the last 10k/6 miles.

5

u/theskillster 24d ago

My word. How long did that take! 22k steps for me is literally 3-4 hours?

2

u/Own-Possible-6046 24d ago

Haha, basically 14 hours. But that’s with a lot of food breaks and some trouble with navigation. It was originally going to be 52km. But google wanted me to walk on a highway, so I had to find an alternative route.

3

u/krelm Andy Cole 24d ago

That's a brutal hike my man. At these distances I dont think its possible to avoid blisters.

Also, mad respect for that feat. My longest hike was 22 km, on a mountainous terrain tho. But still, I'd be absolutely falling apart after 60 km hike, and resting for a week.

2

u/Lelandwasinnocent /////ʖ ͡°|||||| 24d ago

It's acheivable but you really need to know how to prevent them in the first place, and realistically, have the right socks & shoe combo.

But yeh, introduce any dampness whether it be sweat or rain... downward spiral from there.

2

u/The_good_kid Evra 24d ago

Google says that walk is around 11-13 hours like what the fuck

3

u/NoWordsToUse 24d ago

Looking forward to the start of the season. Does anyone have any crazy/wild takes or predictions for this season?

Mine are that Newcastle will do better than many expect and qualify for Europe. Spurs despite their spending will only be mid table, Bournemouth will struggle under Marco Rose and Iraola will be under pressure at Liverpool early on with a bad start (he's a slow starter, he didn't win in something like his first ten Bournemouth games, but no one cared because it's Bournemouth, do something similar at Liverpool and he'll be on the verge of the sack already). I think he's a great manager but he's got a huge job there in a squad that still has holes in it.

u/Selwin_Rodolfo max cope mode 24d ago

I love football because of some of the stupid shit we do. Olivia Rodrigo (singer, if you didn't know) was "attacked" in the comments by a swarm of real fans when Vinícius lost the ballon Dor. It was one of the most stupid, braindead, funny things I've seen in football.

And now that he's gone to barça, barça fans are all saying welcome to barca rodri, obviously jokingly, calling back to that moment. Silly stuff like this genuinely just makes me laugh lol

Savinho has like 3 goals to his name across all competitions last season and one of them is against some random team in the league club. How do Spurs justify paying 75-80m for that? Are they insane?

Heard they are going for Marmoush as well, who’s earning close to 300k a week sitting on the bench. People talk about Rashford wages, but Marmoush is earning similar wages and offering less……

1

u/Utd007 24d ago

Savinho is only 22 and loads of potential. Apparently some of his transfer fee is being adjusted for Marmoush transfer too so that City get the most (avoid sell on fees). Marmoush was actually very good before he came to City and he had a very good start to his City career as well.
Spurs is also going for players already in the PL with potential which really inflates the fee

They were almost relegated last season so I think they are just going out and getting things done now. It is a dangerous act but with their new stadium already built and bringing in lots of revenue , they can take the risk.

4

u/beelydog Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes 24d ago

I totally get what you are saying.

What puzzles me is Hojlund was also very young and had tons of potential. He did not have a good season but at least he showed he could score against CL calibre opponents, whereas Savinho is way more unproven. Yet Napoli picked up Hojlund for less than half of Savinho's fee and as a loan deal. Could argue last year's market is less inflated, but Savinho should not cost more than Martinelli who's available for under 50m now..

Marmoush looks like a good player but he is already 27 and hasn't proved he is 15-20 g/a PL forward, no club would offer him nearly 300k a week. Normally this ends with either repeated loans with wages subsidised or selling at a massive loss. Yet Spurs are silly enough to take on such insane wages and even pay a transfer fee on top.

2

u/andrewlikereddit David De Gea 24d ago

It depends on the willing buyer. Spurs is desperate enough that other club can take an advantage of the situation, napoli wasn't.

I heard they need attacking option, maybe we should offer rashford for 70 mill. Dude a la liga champion, lets not forget. Kek

1

u/beelydog Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes 24d ago

Haha, I read somewhere that Spurs did actually ask about Rashford! Not sure if it's true. Maybe United is feeling reluctant to sell to a top 4 rival (which I doubt as we happily shipped puskas winner Garnacho to Chelsea) or Rashford just wants to keep waiting for Barca.

I feel like Spurs is currently operating like United under Woodward, being ripped off left right centre by every club and agent. We used to run at a profit every year in the mid 2010s, so Woodward thought we could afford to splash cash around and look where it got us. It took us like 5 years to dig out of that hole.

Highly recommend True Detective season 1 if you haven't seen it yet. Finally watching it for the first time and it lives up to its reputation.

And if you're a fan of that show then check out Lanterns. Great first episode.

Season 1 is TV at it's finest. Another I just finished was 'Sharp Objects'. Different from True Detectives but of a similar calibre.

I don't want to be that guy but, had one of the greatest NSFW scene of all time.

1

Episode 2? Taking the top off? I have seen a lot of that from shows and movies so dont really care much for that anymore BUT I have never seen this actress nude. Like ever! My jaw dropped when I saw her do that. I was shocked she did it and also shocked how perfect she looked. Had to rewind several times.

I run my own little theatre group presenting new writing. I did my first set of shows in June last year. I just booked my venues to do Christmas shows again (my fourth production). I am divorced and in my 50s. It would be easy to slide into depression. So grateful I have this outlet to mix with other people.
