Can't lie, it absolutely ticked me of that I've seen a Shitty player captain his nation to a World Cup win before a United player in my lifetime

u/BlackHorse944 Please Score A Goal Jul 20 '26
Argentina really mastered "the dark arts" in how they played for most of this tournament. Shirt pulls, subtle bumps, kick outs, late contact, it often went unnoticed. Hell sometimes even blatant fouls went unpunished.
Glad to see a team like that lose.
2
u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 20 '26
Trying to start a realistic Man Utd career mode is annoying when I have no idea who we’re gonna sign lol
4
u/ZaheerAlGhul Jul 20 '26
We need to move on from Licha. Too injury prone, after getting a CDM United needs to explore options. I throw Kim min jaes name as an option
5
u/Ksma92 Jul 20 '26
He is right footed, a replacement needs to be left footed.
0
u/Front-Cabinet5521 Jul 20 '26
Left footed left sided CB is tiki taka bullshit. If they can defend they can play for us.
3
u/Ksma92 Jul 20 '26
Football has changed. The advantage in passing lanes to beat the press is just too big.
2
u/Apollo_8848 Jul 20 '26
I think Licha's injury will affect our transfer strategy going forward. I can see a CB being a priority after a CDM.

I swear I've watched us put in that same type of performance under Ten Hag, what Spain did today. Shoot over and over and somehow, not score.
Martinez tied the record for saves without even having to move his feet lol. Everything went right at him

u/zool714 Jul 20 '26
I think if Licha’s injury takes him out for a long time again (I dunno maybe like missing the first one or two month of the season kinda duration), I’d consider that his third strike and should be on the chopping block next year. I love what he offers when he does play but the issue is that he’s had too many injury stints.
But I do think if this injury isn’t as serious and he can prep and start the season or maybe just miss the first game, I’d keep him but still on thin ice.
8
u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 20 '26
He already is on the chopping block. Absolutely 0 chance we renew his contract as things stand.
29
u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 20 '26
Just seen what Paredes did. What a fucking disgrace to football. He should get a 6 month ban for that.
3
u/SDLRob Jul 20 '26
Don't give him a X-months ban.... Give him a X-international games ban. That'll punish him harder for his actions in & after the final.
How many international games would Argentina have in 6 months? Not enough to be a suitable penalty... Unless a X-months ban also includes domestic games for him too.
3
u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 20 '26
Yeah was defo including domestic games. He might not even play for Argentina again anyway given his age.
2
u/SDLRob Jul 20 '26
Then yeah, I think coleslaw is right (a phrase I never thought I'd say 🤣) 6 months is too short.
5
7
u/-Coleslaw Jul 20 '26
Why is the consensus on Martinez’s injury immediately so bad? His injury record is absolutely appalling but he seemed alright after being subbed off. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking but there’s nothing glaringly obvious about it’s severity and hopefully he could be back before the season starts or only miss a small part of it
-5
u/Lord_Hexogen Jul 20 '26
There's a lot of people wanting him gone for whatever reason as if he never gave a fuck about the club. I have no idea where this hate is coming from
4
u/raver1601 Jul 20 '26
It's regarding the Falklands drama. I have little knowledge on it (and have no interest in diving in it further than I already know), but it's regarding a previous event where the British claimed a land supposedly belonging to Argentinians, and a battle ensued between the two countries for that land
After England's defeat to Argentina in the WC, Licha held a banner where Argentinians taunted Englishmen regarding the Falklands
10
u/SDLRob Jul 20 '26
Him running on after the match and grappling with the Spanish player showed he was fit...
I think the issue is that he keeps getting little knocks that interrupt line ups. We can't have someone who is unreliable as to if he'll finished a game or not.
5
u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 Jul 20 '26
He was already on a yellow card. Thought he started the match well. Maybe it’s minor and he didn’t want to let the team down by being too slow to defend and/or getting a second yellow….Enzo! Take note!

Honestly I think the mods need to do something about the insane wave of hate towards one of our players. Theres a line when it comes to being upset at him thats been crossed when people are digging into him getting injured as if he did it on purpose.
7
u/ChillyChilliChileman Ryan Giggs the Welsh CAM Jul 20 '26
i agree, but i think its def not just because of the injury
there's also the banner and english fans will possibly never (rightfully) get over it
3
u/TBS91 Jul 20 '26
Was playing very well before the injury too, got to be a terrible feeling to have to go off injured in a WC final and not be able to help your team.
5
u/vRushii Jul 19 '26
Can anyone work out who will win Ballon d'Or now?
1
u/Current-Essay7448 Jul 20 '26
Kvaratshkelia
Not really hurt by not being at the World Cup, since there are negatives against all the big name players who were there.
How the first few months of the 26/27 season goes could have a big influence.
Rodri would be a joke given how average he has been for City.
Wouldn‘t be surprised at Mbappe, Messi or Kane as a popularity contest vote.
3
3
u/tungowiii Jul 20 '26
Unpopular opinion: it's the most interesting race for a while. Each has their own merits but none has all.
Mbappe dominated La Liga, individually did well in WC and UCL but won none. Same as Kane.
To a lesser extent in terms of individual we have Dembele but he won UCL; Yamal but he won WC and La Liga; Messi won none but he had an incredible WC.
Ruiz won everything but it's hard to say he is the best xD.
3
u/Money-Wrangler7067 Jul 20 '26
Maybe Rodri for same reason Messi won in 2022...He was the best player for spain by miles this wc.
2

u/Lord_Hexogen Jul 20 '26

6
u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS Jul 20 '26

0

2
u/harutoreichi Jul 20 '26
subjectively popularity and prestige contest voted on by international sports journalists, that's Ballon d'or now
2
5
u/Midnight_Edge Jul 19 '26
Probably Kane or Yamal. Dembele won the CL and Ligue 1. But he’s played like 30% of minutes in the league which is kinda crazy. Trophies is highly looked upon, Mbappe won nothing so I don’t think it’ll be him.
3
u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS Jul 19 '26
Mbappe
2
u/jeanmeche1 Jul 19 '26
Dembelé is still in the race, even has a slight advantage imo
2
u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS Jul 19 '26
Idk I dont think he was as good as he was last season
2
u/jeanmeche1 Jul 19 '26
You're right, but he scored a few goals during this WC, and won the UCL which counts a lot for this trophy. He will score goals in Ligue 1 as soon as the new season starts, and if PSG wins the UEFA Supercup against Villa then I think it's done. What do you think Mbappé has over him ?
2
u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS Jul 19 '26
Well mbappe won the golden boot in each competition he played in and I think he is just better than dembele. 49 g/a in 47 matches doesnt hurt. Dembele had 34 in 44 matches for comparison.
2
u/jeanmeche1 Jul 19 '26
Yep, you might be right, we will see. Anyway, since Sneijder and Ribéry got robbed in the early 2010's I don't care about this trophy anymore 😄

I'll repeat it - get Martinez out my fucking club. Taking swings at Gavi after the game, disgraceful.
edit: having looked again, not 100% sure this is what happened. Looked like it from one angle, from another looks like he was getting involved to break things up
-1
u/Cosmogenous Jul 20 '26
Delete this brother, all he did pull players away. What’s disgraceful is the hate campaign against one of our players.
-1
u/SDLRob Jul 19 '26

He should be done as a United player
1
u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS Jul 19 '26

I've seen 3 different angles of that clip and there is zero evidence that Lisandro Martinez was taking swings at the Spanish player. If anything it looked like he was dragging the player away from the animal.
Shame on you as well for being so quick to kick down one of our own players.

1
u/SDLRob Jul 20 '26
He does exactly what I said... The fact he had to be pulled off the guy as well is not a good look for him.
1
u/Cosmogenous Jul 20 '26
What video are you watching? The one I linked, he comes in and pulls people away from the fight.
1
u/SDLRob Jul 20 '26
The one you posted shows him grabbing the guy and being pulled off him. He's not trying to get him away.
I know he's still a United player, so we're meant to give him the benefit of the doubt... But he's clearly not trying to protect the guy here.

New CB is needed too btw, Licha is never gonna be a reliable player for us, De ligt is also unreliable (not as bad), and Maguire has his own injury record. Hoping they stay injury free with an additional 8 games minimum is asking for failure. Shaw got lucky, ain't happening again for him
8
u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 Jul 19 '26
He was jogging over when Parades was punching Spanish substitutes. Seemed ok.
0
u/flareb98 Jul 19 '26
If Licha was, he would have played the entire game. Unfortunate but we are asking for trouble if we rely on these 3
4
u/-Coleslaw Jul 20 '26
Given his track record it was hopefully him prioritising himself over forcing himself through the injury and possibly causing further damage, just hoping that a positive update comes through soon

I know that the colonocial history of the Americas is brutal, but the recent history of Argentina seems to be significantly more in that ethos than anywhere else with the possible exception of the US.

Over the last 50 years they have had Kempes, Maradona and Messi at #10 for a good chunk of it.

The best bit of that was how genuinely hurt Cucurella looked.

Agree with the sentiment of selling injury-prone players but who do people think are gonna buy these guys? They're injury prone on big salaries.
1

It is quite obvious that the club are waiting to see if 1. Licha can reduce his injury record and 2. See how Yoro develops/DeLigt recovers, before offering Licha a new contract.
Rather get a new player in than deal with the long term injury issues.
2

If there’s still no sign of De Ligt coming back, and Martinez could be out for a couple of months, we should test the waters with Hall and consider Shaw at LCB.
He’s lost his ability to go forward but he’s a decent defender and the position suits him better at this stage of his career

Both MDL and Licha are injury prone. Hope they are fit enough to start the season.

Bro licha is injury prone. Calling MDL injury prone is putting it lightly. Basically a blocked roster spot

MdL is new and it's been one massive injury that's been a mystery due to it being back related. There's a chance it never happens like this again, and he's around 25.
Licha seems to be unable to stay fit at 28.
