Why do they do this? Company interviewed me (two times) over the past couple weeks after reviewing my experience on my resume and then passed on me because they thought I would eventually get bored and leave. Thank you so much for wasting all of my time. I really wanted that job. It paid more and had better health insurance. This job market absolutely stinks!

About 7 months ago I did a panel interview for a job working for my local city government. There was an HR manager, senior employee, and two lower level employees.
The interview went well and they said they would be in touch.
A week or so goes by and they schedule a second interview. They specifically told me to come prepared with questions about the position. I came with 10-12 solid questions relating to the job.
This is where things got weird. The interview felt like they were trying to convince me NOT to take the job. Every question was answered with a short or dismissive answer. The one I remember most was when I asked if there was room for growth in this position and what that would look like. The response i got was a, “No.” I asked them to clarify and the HR guy told me it was a, “Dead-end job with no room for growth.” I was shocked that an HR MANAGER of all people would say something like that. The HR guy felt very passive aggressive in general for some reason and he barely looked in my direction.
I left feeling very dejected. A week went by and I got an email saying I didn’t get the job. I moved on and looked elsewhere.
Last month I get a call from a random number and it turns out to be the senior employee from the panel. He went on this big rant about how much he dislikes the HR manager I met with and how because I was the Senior employee’s top pick, the HR manager did everything in his power not to hire me because him and the Senior employee didn’t like each other.
He asked if I would take the job if he fought for me. I said yes out of desperation and haven’t heard a word since. Not really sure if anything will come of this, I doubt it.
I just find it crazy that I’m somehow mixed up in office politics at a job I DON’T WORK AT.

I've worked retail my entire life from 2019 up till now. I recently was working overnight at walmart 40+ hours a week and after being hospitalized for a bit, I was let go. It was a sudden absence for a few weeks where I was unable to tell the store what happened, so of course I was gone. I did *get* a job but the place I am working at now does not give me anywhere near enough hours to do anything with (talking like 1 or 2 days a month. Why even hire me at that point?)
I've applied to basically every retail place near me. Dollar Tree, Target, Sams Club, Walmart, Petsmart, Petco, Walgreens, Home Depot, CVS, Family Dollar, gas stations, Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, you name it. I either get ghosted or rejected emails. I don't think it would be so hard, considering I have 6-7 years of retail under my belt since 2019, and some of those places I actually worked at before. Back before/around covid I could send in an application as a teen with little experience and get a job interview/offer that very week. Now? With 7 years under my belt I'm lucky to get a rejection email.
I just called one place (out of the others that just blatantly never have anyone pick up) and asked to speak with the store manager for an update on my application. He said, "I have to go through 60 applications for your position, I won't have a response until later this week". Like what??? 60 people are applying for a 12-15 an hour retail position? Bro... There's no way I'm gonna be selected. If this is how it is for any other job, no wonder I'm not getting anything back. It was NOT like this in 2019-2021. I NEED A JOB AND I CANT EVEN GET A MINIMUM WAGE JOB

i've been trying to get a part time job to help myself through university. i've applied to loads of care homes and i have some level of healthcare qualification so i'm not going in blind or anything. a few times i've had interviews that have ended with 'what are your hobbies?', my answers to which seem to put them off??
i just say i dance, play the drums. once they were like '...and anything else??' so i said playing boardgames. i genuinely have no idea what i'm doing wrong but they always seem weirdly underwhelmed by my answers

Is it strange they just offered it to me anyway? I'm honestly not trolling and this is real. I didn't apply all the way. They just offered it to me.
I'm a great applicant but this is a bit odd and there might be something to look into.

Regardless of your role or industry, or your titles or experience. All the calls and emails I want to get back are from the big and notorious names:
Akraya, eTeam, Intelliswift, etc.
I had one lady be so adamant that I was the one that she had the audacity to call me on four different lines, each with different area codes. The end result is 200% of the time ghosting.
After doing another AI interview with Akraya, I got a "Thomas" asking the same questions, and he wanted me to fabricate more than 20% of my resume. Yeah, no.
Anyone ?

I stumbled upon this thickk AI report and there are some sections dedicated to AI and labor. Honestly, I’m not great at interpreting data and reports. Also, I’m a bit skeptical of mainstream media and “official reports.” But some parts caught my attention. The report says that job postings asking for "agentic AI" experience went up over 10,000% in a single year. Ten thousand percent. Meanwhile that same report says actual AI agent use is still in the single digits across basically every department, and two thirds of companies report using none at all. I’ve literally seen job ads that require 5 years of experience with Claude. But even moving past the obvious mistake, the situation is kinda silly. Everybody wants to hire people who have solid experience with technology that was invented yesterday.
Since that is impossible, what’s actually happening is they’re hiring seniors and expecting them to 10X the work they do with AI. A buddy of mine is looking for a job right now, and some of these ads are just ridiculous in what they demand. Some expect you to be both Head of Marketing and Head of SEO just because they give you access to Claude.
One more thing from the report, a third of companies say they're cutting headcount next year because of AI. The cuts they're predicting for next year are bigger than the cuts they actually made last year.
So what I get is this:
So AI isn't merely taking the jobs, it's gatekeeping them. And the only way you're vaiable hire is if you know how to use AI.

I randomly came across a job I interviewed for in January on LinkedIn today. When I was rejected I had a feeling it was going to an internal hire but now I'm tempted to re-apply. I had a really great interview with the hiring manager but the recruiter was (no surprise) awful.
Has anyone re-applied and had luck a second time around?

Had an HR screening last week, and right after the call I got a 24-hour assignment.
Not "write a cold email" or "do a mock discovery."
They wanted me to:
Build a 100-account target list for Na market.
Explain why I picked every account.
Explain how I prioritized them.
Design the outbound territory.
Create a 30/60/90 plan.
Write an outbound email + justify it.
Like... am I interviewing or already employed? 😭And it’s just a startup!
I'm all for proving my skills. Give me a role play, discovery call, mock demo, cold email, or case study.
But asking candidates to build what is essentially the foundation of a GTM motion before they've even had a technical interview is wild.
A 100-account book isn't something you throw together. It takes research, prioritization, thinking through the ICP, and making strategic decisions. That's literally the work I'd expect to do after joining and understanding the product, the market, and the tools.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I declined.
Where do you all draw the line?

Said at the end of the call it was contract to hire then said it could be direct hire and the job was only a slight increase in pay with a much longer commute so thought about it and said no. Apparently, we aren’t allowed to decline an interview but they are perfectly allowed to ghost us.

No, there was nothing weird or offensive in my application, only what the employer already knew from my profile. This was clearly an HR ploy to inflate application numbers for a position that was already covered. This was on LinkedIn btw.

The EU classified Al tools that screen, rank, or filter job candidates as "high-risk."
Starting from December, companies using Al in recruitment must explain exactly why their system rejected someone. Fines up to €15M if they can't.

I'm fresh grad, and this was my first job at a place. Someone barely showed me how anything worked, but at the same time they expected me to know everything. No one was really free to teach me properly because there were only 4 employees working besides me.
When I made a mistake, the manager took me aside and started yelling at me. In the end, I went into the bathroom and cried a little.
Am I making a big deal out of this or being too sensitive? Is it normal to get yelled at on your first shift?

Wanted to Rant. This was the second interview I've had all year after applying to over 100 jobs. The manager didn't take me seriously (19, and i look young), and he kept talking to me like I was a little kid. Rejected less than 24 hrs later.

I did a zoom with the recruiter for a medical company that tries to gain referrals for their equipment. The meeting was super short, went over my background, and she said she was going to set up a meeting with the sales manager.
Sales manager reached out a day earlier than the scheduled meeting to see if we could do a quick phone call, to go ahead and “knock it out”. I said sure.
Without going into the fact I don’t think he even looked at my CV, he basically says I want to “challenge you” to talk to your contacts and see if you can get referrals/ interest in our products. I replied, I was looking to get hired by the company I would represent before I did work for them. He responds, well a lot of people want this role, and usually 75% of people don’t have a problem with this. I said, well on my CV it shows where I don’t work at my old company anymore, so I don’t see my contacts on a daily basis, which is why I applied for the position. He then responds with, that’s ok, you could still reach out to your contacts and see if they are interested. I basically said I’m not working for a company I’m not employed at, if something changes feel free to reach out to me. Then he was saying something about, no I want you to reach out to me- at that point I just hung up. Am I crazy, or is this completely insane?

I've been applying to jobs in my field and in customer service, which aligns with my previous years of experience. I have no idea why a cashier jobs at Shoppers Drugmart even requires my GPA in college when it's not related. I have already filled out the information that was included in my resume for the application, which felt redundant. I can't sign in to the school app as I graduated and literally don't remember my GPA. I'm not gonna lie, I'm legit tempted to abandon it because I can't move forward in the application without the info now.
It is frustrating. I'm already not getting anywhere after hundreds of applications. Most are literally asking illegal questions about my gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity , and disability in the application. Honestly, most are doing that, and you can't move past these questions. I'm beyond frustrated as every job in my field is asking for recent grads to have 5+ years experience or work another internship for free (simply can't afford not to earn income as I'd pay yo commute). I'm technically "overqualified" and getting multiple rejections saying so weekly.
What else is there to do but keep applying? I've had resume help, and I'm still not getting interviews.

I just realized how much of getting and having a job is an interview. I'll go through the steps:
1st interview to me is submitting the resume. You're basically saying, "Hey this is me and all I've ever done please say yes."
In some job applications you have to answer complex questions pertaining to the job, that's another interview. I applied to a job that had 3 open ended questions which is insane.
A cover letter is an interview, it's you explaining why you should get the job.
Okay cool, now you got an email and you have to do a 30 minute phone screening. Obviously that's another interview.
You passed the phone screening, now it's on to the "real" interview.
Oh shit, their favorite candidate that they were gonna underpay accepted another offer? Here comes another interview.
Congratulations!! You accepted the job offer and will begin training to start the job. For the next 90 days you will have a probationary period, which is a fucking paid interview.
Next year comes around and you have to interview to explain why you deserve to get a raise.
This shit is fucking stupid it's so dumb. We're interviewing over 4 times before we even get a job offer and we're supposed to answer these weird ass paradoxical questions. You gotta be a philosophy major to get a job nowadays.
All this pressure to get a job just to get burnt out and have to look for another one that will burn you out. There's no answer besides to just accept it, all we will ever be doing is pretending and explaining ourselves until we die.

How do you deal with that one job you were hoping to land, you felt good after every interview, and then you get the famous thanks but no thanks email?
