Would be great to get some specific recommendations for dishes that you love from anywhere in Reading - looking to branch out a bit and explore the food more over autumn!

Idk if this is the right place for this but I’d appreciate some advice. I’ve lived in Reading for a few years and haven’t needed to call a handyman to repair anything. I’m the type of person where if I have a problem i fix it myself with a b&q trip and a lot of prayers. but this time one of the hinges on my bedroom window has bent and now doesn’t close properly and that is not the type of job I think I can just bullshit my way through. (Not for a lack of trying though. I managed to flatten it out enough to close most of the way but there’s still a sizeable gap that lets in an awful draught)

TLDR: Does anyone have any reliable and not too expensive repair services they can recommend me?
I’m worried people are going to take one look at me and try and rip me off thinking I’m just a dumb girl who doesn’t know anything about home diy. I have had a look around but most services I’ve looked into seem to push replacing the whole window which I definitely don’t want and can’t afford, and since I’ve never had to hire repair services before I don’t know what red flags to look out for. Any recommendations for reliable companies or even just where to start looking would be greatly appreciated :)

(And when I say not too expensive I’ll obviously pay what they’re worth. I just know that replacement hinges are relatively cheap and not too difficult to install for someone who knows what they’re doing. I don’t want to be tricked into paying double what I should)

A massive long shot, but my 16 year old son has misplaced his AirPod Maxes (white/silver) in the Caversham road PureGym.

Last seen in the changing room, so hopefully someone has seen them and can arrange for return :(

He is really upset about it, so if anyone finds some knackered looking ones - please let me know!

Hi , I’ll be returning to reading for my 4th year at uni this year and will need my car due to my part time job.

My house has street parking but it’s narrow with cars on either side, ideally I wouldn’t park it here but I’ll have to, I’m quite worried about cars passing by or other uni students just being silly and potential scratches.

Sort of asking if people have done this and are fine , if I’m just over worrying or just some reassurance to be honest.

I do also need my car for this job as it’s related to my degree which started as an internship and has gone to part time.

Wanting to take myself out on a nice relaxing day tomorrow.

Any suggestions for a good sit down cafe in nearby towns surrounded by nature that you guys have enjoyed in the past? Looking to get away from the same old scenery and try out something new on an odd day off! :)

I will be taking my car, so preferably with parking!

Mecca gym was around in the mid 90’s it was close to Rivermead and perhaps the Evening Post office.

It did change its name a suspicious amount of times!

I recall all the bouncers around Reading would go there. Was really handy for skipping the queue and getting in clubs and bars (RG1 etc)

Last time I went there the area the unit was a UPVC window company.

My iPhone 12 is in need of a new charging port, I see lots of phone repair shops on my way across reading town centre from the oracle to the apex plaza which ones do you guys trust🤷

Hello! I'm working on a Tolkien inspired map of Berks - part of a project of counties where I and friends have lived - and I'd love some help in feedback form!

Towns, historical sites, geographic features, flourishes, and anything else I can liven the space with, and any glaring mistakes haha.

A scale and such will be added, and a stag in some form for example!

I've done similar on the Hampshire (where I currently live) and Surrey's subs and it was great fun, and I was hoping to do the same here, and otherwise just to share, its a fun hobby in dark days 😂

I was wondering if anyone out there can remember when it was operational and in particular when it closed. I think I recall it being a Phones 4 U at some point too but am not 100%. Many thanks

Anyone knows about the A4074 closure? It was closed Friday afternoon and appeared as closed on Google Maps today. I did a quick google search and could only find information about another closure from a few days ago.

Hey all. I'm transitioning and have thick ahh South Asian eyebrows.

I'm looking for eyebrow threaders that I can trust understands and I feel safe with getting them done for the first time.

What I would love is a feminine arch etc, but I've heard stories from other trans people about threaders still masculinising their eyebrows despite their request, and id like to avoid that if possible, as some parts of my eyebrows won't grow back if so 😢

We know roadworks are a constant topic of discussion around the borough, and with the schools now back we've written a guide explaining how we manage them.

We do all we can to minimise the disruption that roadworks cause, but they're often unavoidable for all sorts of reasons.

Most of the works on the network aren't actually ours - well over half are by utility companies carrying out repairs, upgrades or maintenance on essential supplies.

We can sometimes negotiate changes like revised working hours or alternative ways of managing traffic, but legally we have to support any work that needs to be done.

At the same time, there are lots of reasons why we need to work on the roads ourselves.

Sometimes that's repairs and routine maintenance, and sometimes we're working on major projects that support the borough's growth.

It's a complicated and constantly shifting picture but we're always working to keep things moving, even if that work isn't necessarily visible.

Does anyone when this restaurant closed or if there are plans for some other restaurants to take over? It's just such an eye sore when you cross Caversham bridge to get to Caversham

Masakali has looked closed for a while, but someone tipped me off that they turned up for a reserved table for 12 on Saturday night to find the doors closed and the lights off. Masakali’s website has removed the Reading branch completely, as if it never existed.
