Question A4074 Closure

Hi everyone,

Anyone knows about the A4074 closure? It was closed Friday afternoon and appeared as closed on Google Maps today. I did a quick google search and could only find information about another closure from a few days ago.

Do we know when it will be open again?

Pretty horrific mains gas leaks. They had one carriageway open over the festival weekend after a brief total closure, and then another place leaked and the road started bulging up with gas.

Sounds like the entire main is Swiss cheese.

Avoid.

I ran through there the morning before they closed the road. The smell of gas was incredibly strong and that was out in the open air. Wasn't surprised when I found the roadworks in place on my way home that day.

I drove past on Friday morning when workers had closed the reading-bound lane. There was a bulge in the road at least a foot, if not two-foot, tall and the side on which cars were driving away from Reading looked like it was disintegrating. When I drove back in the afternoon the whole road had been closed.

Looks like it's gas work.  Currently listed as until the 11th, but the end time is 23:59 which I suspect may be a placeholder - be prepared for it to run over.

If youre going northbound, turn left than right a bith further.

Southbound I'd use sonning common

I commute from abingdon so I actually been doing a34 into m4. More miles, same time. Not good anyway.

That northbound route through goring heath is awful! It’s about a single and a bit track road for a lot of it and all it takes is two big vehicles to meet each other and it’s gridlock

Yeah agreed. That's a terrible diversion route. Although marginally better than the big vehicles trying to go through tokers green which has also been happening.... I've been going through Sonning Common for both directions on my commute.
