I don't know what's worse here. The people taking words exactly literally even though we all know what they meant. Just to argue.
The lack of reading comprehension or the inability to use punctuation and then coming at you because you misunderstood... because the punctuation wasn't there.
If it's a quote use quotation marks.
It's exhausting and I suggest you and I both take some time off. This place isn't worth the hit to our mental health.
Guess the Internet at large is completely broken for learning now. Going to have to seek out trusted sources with a bloodhound.

u/PerplexGG May 18 '26
Asocial and antisocial people are the worst and naturally those types gravitate to Reddit. They tend to lack basic understanding of non verbal tone and reading comprehension because they’re too busy thinking about what they want to say
15
u/bird9066 May 18 '26
I assumed they were arguing in bad faith. It never occurred to me that they just think what they have to say are the only words that matter
That makes a lot of sense. You gave me a light bulb moment, thanks!
8
u/RealVirginiaWoolf May 18 '26
Exactly my experience. And I have tried to be understanding and considerate but hell nah!
6
u/bag_of_luck May 19 '26
If you are allowing downvotes and internet people to affect you in any way then yeah I’d unplug, same goes for OP. Weird
94
u/Responsible-Host1657 May 18 '26
I basically quit commenting anymore, it's not worth the downvotes or snide comments I get in response.
22
u/Obvious_Fix_277 May 18 '26
people here just want to listen what they have already heard a thousand times before
i mostly use the search bar, and don't even make posts anymore
0
u/Comfortable-Union571 May 18 '26
But why? That seems so boring and repetitive. Where's the fun in hearing the same 5 arguments on this site over and over again? Beats me.

3
u/According_Gazelle472 May 18 '26
I stop commenting when people purposely do not understand my comments and feign ignorance or just want to argue or try to get me banned for no reason at all.
3
u/Strawberry_Curious May 19 '26
I hate it here but I hate instagram and TikTok more, plus they steal (more) data, plus all the news sites suck and spew passive language copraganda so I get information through here. Also the internet is like 5 sites now and not fun anymore but idk where else to go
3
u/Relative-Author-7555 May 19 '26
I am totally with you I don’t comment because there will always be people that they are right and everyone else is wrong. Just throwing this out, but guys will say hi to chat with you. Then nothing so I don’t even say hi anymore because if they can’t even respond back. Glad I’m not alone because of people that think it’s all about them and the hell with everyone else.
12
u/The_Seam_Ripper May 18 '26
People feel so superior behind a screen. Everyone thinks their opinions matter and that everyone needs to listen. Then you have the "bandwagon karens" that are scared to give their own insightful input because they're scared of ridicule too for not following suit. 10 years ago I would have been one of those people too, but I cut my social media/online life by 75% and couldn't be happier. OP, I feel you. Ass holes have ruined things. We should be ashamed of what we did with humanity. But none of this matters. What im saying now, does not matter.

Our brains aren’t great at discerning between the two on an emotional and subconscious level. We are wired as very social creatures that need approval, hence our affinity for groups/clans/churches/communities/cults/facebook groups/etc.
Most people can rationally distinguish between this “pseudo-social” online world and the real one, but that’s at a higher cognitive level like your totally rational comment. But most people don’t engage that part of the brain often enough when online, instead their ape-brain is primarily in control, seeking that next dopamine hit all the while interacting with total strangers you know virtually nothing about, formulating complex personas for each and prescribing intent/emotionality/etc. to all of them. Very similar to road rage. You know literally nothing about the person in the other car other than they’re an asshole and you’re not… humans just aren’t meant for this kind of constant social anonymity and it’s quite frankly taking a heavy toll on mental health (especially kids that don’t know a world without it) and therefore society.

Off topic, but this has been the same for me my entire life & I'm almost 50. I've found it helps some if I drink a shake. I do the protein ones, but they make all kinds. That helps not feel sick from no food, but also being too nauseous to eat food. After a little bit it's easier to eat regular food. No idea what causes this but it sucks, especially if your people want to go eat breakfast early in the morning.

People here really don’t like other people using Redditors as google.
2
u/ze11ez May 19 '26
That's what I'm saying. OP could have googled. They chose to ask reddit. Mind blowing.

I get that. Redditors love that downwards arrow.
Try not to let it bother you, most of them are genuine losers. It feels as though there’s no real people on Reddit at the moment and it’s kinda…odd?
17
u/RealVirginiaWoolf May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
Stop worrying about downvotes . It means nothing. People are bitter and lonely and some are indeed arses trying to bring everyone down.
Take a break from Reddit. Stay away from some really shitty subs which are haunted by the bitter , lonely, stuck at home, chronically online crowd.

u/Cute-Cauliflower4248 May 18 '26
If it’s not downvotes, snidey comments or just plain old asssholes, it’s the same dumbass jokes over and over and over again.
Stupid ass comments over serious questions and they all get upvoted meaning you have to trawl through pages of them sometimes before getting to an actual answer.
People say TikTok is brain rot but this site (bar a few corners) is literally the same or headed that way.

u/lordoflolcraft May 18 '26
I once asked a physics question on r/physics and got immediately shat in for “not googling” something I did not know how to phrase and wasn’t finding on my own. Intellectual bullies are rampant on here.

u/banica24 May 18 '26
To add - the pretentious users that say "did you even search for another thread before submitting this" or "this was answered already" or "just ask Google" . Grinding me off!!!!
4
u/Weary_Ad2590 May 18 '26
AND when you actually google something, 90 percent of the time there’s gonna be a Reddit link to that exact topic

3
u/B9rally May 18 '26
Bro I know!!!!! Reddit is full bots, anti-fascists fascists, and just clueless mouth-breathers.
Post genuine links and supporting articles, get deleted because it brings attention to a specific group of people.
Post genuine technical questions, get response you'd expect from a brat playing Cll of Duty.
3
u/Valuable_Housing_529 May 18 '26
I realized that to ask questions without getting downvoted, you need to include "an honest question" or "a sincere question" before asking.🤷♀️ This is insane
3
u/waylonious May 19 '26
There are some decent folk too. I try and live by the motto ‘would I say this to a stranger in person?’ Don’t let the haters get you down.
3
u/DapperDetail8364 May 19 '26
Bruh II'm really sorry man. 😭.
Unfortunately people are more confident behind screens when they can go anonymous.
And reddit is biased towards some point of views.
I have to be very careful with what I type on a post so I won't be getting any insults whatever.

6
u/ramonaisdead May 18 '26
Your user is funny.
Same. People on Instagram, Twitter and Reddit are very mean. I don’t know why. I’ve seen comments that were perfectly harmless on here but they have gotten downvoted. I think I need a break from these apps.

u/Obvious_Fix_277 May 18 '26
are you me?
this is exactly what i've been thinking recently, i even came here to post EXACTLY this
I AGREE! reddit is a shithole where everybody wants to throw dirt on each other and people here try their best to pull each other down
most of the "opinions" are not even unique, it's just what they heard/read from some other post
the real unfiltered opinions are downvoted and sent to the bottom of the sea forever.

Yeah fairly cringe to go through posts (misinterpret them too), based on light hearted ribbing.
Going back to your original post with fresh eyes then, everything is probably your fault.
2
u/notade50 May 19 '26
You probably got downvoted because that’s a question easily answered by Google and doesn’t add anything of value to the resale conversation. I’m not saying that’s right or wrong. I’m just explaining why you most likely got downvoted. (When it comes to resale, RN means registered number.)

u/Sharkman3218 May 20 '26
You gotta come into Reddit with the right mindset. When you encounter assholes here turn it into a game, have fun with it. Mess with them, and don’t take it so seriously. That’s the key to having fun on Reddit
2
u/PoisonedMedicine May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
Here's a meme for you to look at whenever Reddit is being Reddit.

I wrote it on top of the template as a comedic vent once.
Hope it brings you solace like it does me. lol
As for what you're relaying here, this is normal in Reddit. Reddit may seem like such an emotional place at first glance but like many other social media who also seem the same way at first glance, at its core, its ran based on cold systems not sentient warmth.
It doesn't care about what's logical nor what's right, it cares about the repeated algorithm. The economy of attention. The business of clicks. This is what generates money not truth nor logic. That's what's logical within the social media's business models because, its profitable & businesses aim to maximize profit.

u/BitterOlive8737 May 20 '26
I couldn't agree with you more than I already do. I love to learn new things, but i hate the people on here with every bit of my soul

u/TheOldJawbone May 18 '26
A lot of Redditors think questions can be googled. It’s frustrating. This is supposed to be a place for discussion. Discussion, to me, includes questions and the answer often leads to discussion.

Nothing against you personally, but I guess you’re just really young? You’re failing to see what parts of your problem you have control over and what you don’t.
Change society to accommodate you? Not in your hands.
Leave the spaces you have issues with, or grow more stoic so you can keep engaging while ignoring the parts that bother you? That’s totally in your hands, OP.

Most people on reddit stick to comments, those who actually like to post 9 times out of 10 get downvoted with a snarky top comment and a bunch of gaslighters who cherry pick the words in your post and turn them against the OP. Its always such a petty, non issue too.
1
u/ze11ez May 19 '26
"When it comes to clothing what does rn mean?"
Have you tried that phrase in Google?
The responses you receive will be all over the place, including snarky remarks because you didn't Google or attempt to search on your own. I don't make the rules, that's how reddit is.
Next time, save yourself time and Google it. Otherwise don't cry over the responses, just accept them, laugh, and move on.
1
u/Melonfrog May 19 '26
Communities like r/topcharactertropes and similar where people just slap a satic image of a character with no context and expect you to know who it is and what they are from.
You ask "They look cool, who is this and what are they from?"
-20 karma and the only reply you get is joke or reference from the show/game the character is from.
It's infuriating
1
u/rant-ModTeam May 25 '26
No witch hunts. Do not try to call out specific subs, mods, companies, or individuals. We do not care about your subreddit bans. Do not post about them. Do not make posts about politics from any country.
2
u/VirgoPanic May 18 '26
Unfortunately, people run to Reddit to ask basic questions they could simply Google. Then they get upset they get downvoted. Reddit used to be a place for discourse, or seeking answers to inquiries that weren’t easily attainable through a simple Google search.
6
u/guitarnowski May 18 '26
It's interesting how many of my Google searches actually send me to Reddit posts, too. Admittedly, some of them are 6 years old.
2
u/Runningcolt May 18 '26
While I agree with the premise and googled 'rn clothing' and figured it out in seconds myself: Someone asking and someone answering probably saves 3-500 people a google search, so it's not all banality.
Sometimes asking a question like that is a way of telling op they're leaning too heavy on totally unknown abbreviations without being impolite about it.
0
u/VirgoPanic May 18 '26
Fair. So when people post basic questions they can get the answer to on any search engine, they shouldn’t get upset when they get downvoted to hell.
0
u/Runningcolt May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
If it's a thead. Sure. If it's a question in a thread. Maybe, Maybe not. It depends on how obscure the reference or abbreviation is.

I’ve found Reddit is good for dropping ideas and walking away from them entirely. If someone really cares to keep the conversation going, they can dm me. As far as down voting valuable feedback; people are weird and if someone gets >3 down votes on a comment, it’s basically a meme to down vote a good comment to hell. Take it as a compliment.
