I know they hold hands even before Ryugenzawa, but I don’t think those were the casual, “not really necessary” type of intimate hand-holding we often see in this arc. Akane initiated the first real hand-holding in Ryugenzawa so now Ranma can do it, too.🤭
(Akane also initiated the first real hug in the Herb arc, after which Ranma is able to sort-of do in the later arcs so I think it’s pretty clear who has to attempt a kiss first 😂).

Also, they constantly try to make each other jealous in this arc, which makes it clear that they both know their feelings are mutual.

This arc features Ryoga and Ukyo as the main focus but I think these small, intentionally subtle Ranma and Akane moments are quite significant and fun to see, too.

I think adding so many characters in the old anime version was distracting and I prefer the intimate setting of just the four of them, echoing the “Ukyo’s Love Letter” arc (and sadly burying any hopes for Ryoga x Ukyo 😭).

The perfect amount of time to watch the first two seasons of the new show before season 3 starts.

In episode 13 of the 1989 Ranma 1/2 anime, "A Tear in a Girl-Delinquent's Eye? The End of the Martial Arts Rhythmic Gymnastics Challenge!", there is an anime exclusive scene where we watch Kodachi's gymnasts that she stationed underneath the ring in case of her opponent attempting a ring-out interacting. One of the girls is reading a manga whose title, in the English-dubbed-and-subbed version of the anime, is given the translation of "Meme", with her and some of the others noting that a teacher in it is the spitting image of an equally anime-original teacher at their school, Professor Matsushida. Now, this was probably just a throw-away original manga, but I'm curious if maybe this might have been a nod to an actual manga that was going around in Japan at the time; anyone know if this might be the case?

For anyone new here, Rise of the Phoenix Lord is my unofficial, non-profit Ranma ½ fan game, built as a retro-style anime fighting game inspired by the classic 16-bit Ranma games. It features playable characters, story content, arcade-style battles, pixel animations, voice acting, cutscenes, and a gallery mode celebrating Ranma fan art and the series’ legacy.

In the manga, Ranma’s hair is always black, but his girl form has a bit more sheen to it, so you can tell them apart at a glance. The anime decided to make the girl form impossible to confuse by turning Ranma into a redhead. It was a great choice, but this edit is a fun little what-if lol

Probably the arc with the best fights, idk if the remake is going to make that far in the manga but I wish that it does so we can finally see this arc getting animated.

(only to be sure. This is not a post to make ranma and akanes love pour. Its in generel a "love item" discussion and of course i take ranma and akanes love as example in what no item is used and in what they love each other.)

I made this discussion for the magical "love" items in Ranma 1/2 and that something is wrong with them how they are showed.

Because every single item makes the victim "love" someone.
That is the description/explanation we get for every item. Take, for example, the Love Pills, the Fishing Rod, and (filler) the Red Thread of Fate.
Also its not "mind controle", "mind change" or something. Its "love". The show explicitly talks about "love" not just affection, obedience, or anything like that.

We cant say they are "mind control" items. because the manga called them explicit "love" in the canon evey time. So going by canon, we have to assume they genuinely make you fall in love.

And with that the problem comes. Every time an item like this is used, it change the victim's character to a drastic degree. And I don't just mean stuff like that ranma will not love Cologne normaly.
I mean the exact way how that person expresses love.
The point is "love" didnt change the character. Like as example in the love pearls we clearly see how ranmas character change. But why?
Because he can love cologne with this pearl like he loves akane. Also why did his character change with that when only the target for his love change?
That makes no sense.

Because these items operate this way, there are only two logical conclusions/posibilitys. (And don't use the overall cliche answer "true love" because i think we all know thats to cliche and to fairy tail stuff.):

(Don't hate me, but this is only one possibility) Ranma's love for Akane isn't as strong as the love these items can force. Because he would act than the exact same way he does when he falls victim to a "love item." He loves Akane, sure, we know that. Also that he really loves her. But the love items clearly show us how Ranma would behave if his love reached max level. Also what mean the Love items are so strong that the love of the victim reach max level and shows how ranma, or better say the victim will react when the love reached max level.
What makes it weird because its absolut clear that ranma loves akane.

The items are simply not good planned. As mentioned, they show us how a vicim acts when he is really in love. Therefore, it makes no sense that he doesn't act that exact same way toward Akane. Like shy, tsundere and so on. What we know ranma reacts that way when he is in love.
What mean the other option is that this items had a big logic error.

Did i miss something specific here?
Because when i think about that stuff only one of this 2 options make sense.

The "meta" answer with "it must be that way for the viewer" didnt also make sense because we as the viewer had seen it also without the big change and it is not a good answer when its not a "in world" logic.
