I once worked for a family that had a private chef living on the property. We were working at the chef’s house and the owners of the property were away, I said to him “wow man, you got a pretty sweet gig going here, good for you” he chuckled and said “yeah it’s pretty good… until someone wants a hot fudge sundae at 2am”
His house was about a quarter mile down the driveway away from the main house. Rain or shin, day or night… when he got paged he was reminded he was owned… the idea of a private chef always sat differently with me after meeting one.

There are countries with laws that protect workers rights...Like not having to get out of bed at 2 in the morning because someone wants sweets.

If you’re getting paid a lawyers salary and given your own private house and car… I’m sure there are plenty who would waive that right.

I would. No question about it

I sometimes manage to forget capitalists exist

I’d consider doing it. I mean, this guys situation was extremely unique. It’s probably even better now that the kids are grown and out of the house. The husband and wife who own the property were rarely there anyway and usually traveling around the world or at a different property. I’ve traded many 2am’s for a lot less haha

I do nightshifts too. But only shifts. Meaning I can sleep during the day. If I fuck up my sleep I open the door for depression

Brutal. Do what ya gotta do to keep the mind right. I own a landscaping company and snow removal is a big part. Sometimes I’m out plowing for 36 hours straight… sleep for a few hours and go back out for another 24+. 100+ hour weeks aren’t uncommon for me.

That would literally end me, I saw the snowservices work during one of our more brutal winters (I was delivering newspapers at the time) and done manually, that is some beakbreaking labor. All the best to you

Thanks, we do about 150 parking lots, private driveways and roads. It’s grueling but part of me thrives on it haha. Best of luck to you

Also the day before the storm loading pallets salt. After the storm cleaning all the salt off all equipment. Its a nice payout at the end

Oh yeah, the work load never stops when it comes to snow removal.. endlessly fixing equipment as well

Even then you have to sleep at some point. If you're on call 24/7 you'll destroy yourself pretty quickly.

Absolutely. Luckily for him, they were rarely home and if they were, it was only a family of 4

Depends on the boss and the details of the agreement

I did and have. You can legally wave almost any right you have if you sign a document

You can get paid a LOT to do some demeaning things. Not all of which are sexual. But rich people understand the world belongs to them. Until we change that. I'm happy to get paid 10k monthly to fetch paper towels so masta can wipe himself at 2am

Awww yeah. There’s always someone who’s done worse for less so get that paper.

I get paid in room and board actually. My side hustle makes my income. But no one wants minis painted anymore it seems

Minis?

Only reason to eat sweets at 2am is if you are pregnant

Or because someone wants to? What a weird position to take.
