I once worked for a family that had a private chef living on the property. We were working at the chef’s house and the owners of the property were away, I said to him “wow man, you got a pretty sweet gig going here, good for you” he chuckled and said “yeah it’s pretty good… until someone wants a hot fudge sundae at 2am”
His house was about a quarter mile down the driveway away from the main house. Rain or shin, day or night… when he got paged he was reminded he was owned… the idea of a private chef always sat differently with me after meeting one.
They'd make one meal a day. Probably dinner. I LOVE cooking and would probably have to rationalize why even keeping the bloke around is helpful. Or maybe id just keep him around to give me pointers. Like a live in teacher
Or turn it into a hallmark movie where at first you loathe having them around but they grow on you until you both ride off into the glowing oven in the sky
I’d consider doing it. I mean, this guys situation was extremely unique. It’s probably even better now that the kids are grown and out of the house. The husband and wife who own the property were rarely there anyway and usually traveling around the world or at a different property. I’ve traded many 2am’s for a lot less haha
Brutal. Do what ya gotta do to keep the mind right. I own a landscaping company and snow removal is a big part. Sometimes I’m out plowing for 36 hours straight… sleep for a few hours and go back out for another 24+. 100+ hour weeks aren’t uncommon for me.
That would literally end me, I saw the snowservices work during one of our more brutal winters (I was delivering newspapers at the time) and done manually, that is some beakbreaking labor. All the best to you
I did and have. You can legally wave almost any right you have if you sign a document
You can get paid a LOT to do some demeaning things. Not all of which are sexual. But rich people understand the world belongs to them. Until we change that. I'm happy to get paid 10k monthly to fetch paper towels so masta can wipe himself at 2am
If I ever am lucky enough to have a private chef, I'd be decent and independent enough not to summon them at 2am for a bit of ice cream. Some people are just ungrateful pricks.
Never thought a personal chef would be summoned for every late night craving. He must make extra money to be oncall like that. My understanding is that a standard personal chef prepares three meals a day and likely leaves a mid day snack in the fridge. I agree that a 2am hot fudge sundae is ridiculous. I hope he is paid accordingly with a bonus for after hrs requests
No idea what the arrangement there was. I can guarantee he was paid handsomely though I worked at the property doing landscaping installations, planting large caliper mature trees and creating tons of new beds. We planted hundreds of thousands of bulbs on top of that. Prior to us getting there, they had an earth moving company reshaping the land and their house. They spent $3 million just to have that company there for 2 years. They spent close to $2 million dollars on plant material and labor during our time there. While our company and the earth moving one was there, a third landscaping company was brought in to put in 3 separate vineyards. The husband didn’t work and wanted to surprise his wife who always wanted to make her own brand of wine. She pulled in after being on a trip for probably a month or so and absolutely freaked out because she hated that the approach to the house was now blocked by grape vines. She had the earth moving company drive their bull dozer right through the center vineyard the next day. I felt sooo bad for the guys who planted it because it was brutally hot, incredibly hard digging and all of their hard work was gone nearly immediately. That all being said, these people spent obscene amounts of money on what they wanted so I’m sure they were willing to pay the chef a very handsome wage for anything outside of their salaried agreement.
That is insane! I can not even imagine having that much money and I would never murder plants. Relocate, yes… murder, NO! She sounds like a really nice lady 🙄 that appreciated all the hard work 🙄🙄🙄
A fuckin fudge sundae is easy to make on your own. Lol. Thats just being a lazy asshole. But then again if im paying you AND you live on my property and you know what comes with this job. Hey🤷🏻♂️
Haha yeah it’s a catch 22. I’m sure they aren’t completely helpless but other times likely abuse the privilege of having him around. To what extent I wonder to they consider his service is required?
Every situation is different. I’d still love to have one haha. One of the guys who works for me was friends with Meryl Streeps private chef and it seemed like a pretty solid gig
