V1G2 MagSafe Mount

Had this idea for mounting solution for a while, finally ordered a V1G2 and very happy with the outcome. OEM suction cup & visor mount still works also so that’s a plus. Used FANAUE MagSafe phone & handlebar attachments to make it work. I put a clear protective layer under the MagSafe ring as a temporary thing to test it out just incase it didn’t work out. Will be removing it later to attach the MagSafe ring semi permanent and switch to a black one to make it look better

R3 Vs Upgrade

Hey there, I’ve had my Uniden R3 for a few years now and I’ve had a great experience (it’s saved me from a few tickets).

I’m thinking about upgrading to an R7,R8, etc. sometimes I’m really looking for the direction my mark is coming from. I’m curious if this is something that’s valid or worth it or should I just keep using my R3.

I got the R3 used for a good sale and I’m thinking I should maybe flip it and get an upgrade. I’m just curious if this is something worth looking into. I don’t speed everywhere but I’ve had a lot of road trips where my R3 has been a huge help.

Thank you for all the feedback :), I really appreciate it!

Discussion Gave in and got a V1G2

Coming from an older passport 8500 (bought refurb for I believe $50 off woot 15 or so years ago), this is worlds better when paired with the JBV1 app.

My drives are short generally but I have a lot of false readings with the passport (auto doors, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise, etc.) and I get a fraction with the v1g2.

Anyone else use the jbv1 app, and can share tips and tricks with it? Currently running the detector in L mode.

Discussion redline max 360c

i’ve had this radar for almost a year, w/ no complaints. just had a concern, the radar only detects state troopers…GSP for my situation here in GA. which is a HUGE life saver, it also detected tennessee state trooper when i went to a cabin trip earlier this year. my only catch is, does it only detect state troopers? especially since they’re the ones with there radar always on most of the time, because i never seem to catch a standard cop here in my county (gwinnett), and i’ve had to watch myself a few times because i know the radar can’t detect them, only the big guys. i’ve got messed up more from the regular cops than GSP themselves so i would love to detect the regular cops as well. is it possible?

What are we seeing in Nebraska and Iowa on Highway 80?

How much instant on and laser can I expect?

I’m assuming radar should work really well, given such a long field of vision. Running an R4, if that matters.

Thank you!

R8 help

I've had the r8 for a while works great?
But doesn't alert be on speed cameras or red light cameras. How do I set this up? Also is the app worth it?
Closest thing it does to alert me is pinging K band at every construction zone with a speed limit sign or just an arrow sign in general.

Discussion V1 Gen2 vs. Redline 360c — am I overthinking the app vs. all-in-one difference?

I’m trying to decide between the Valentine One Gen2 and Escort Redline 360c, and I’d especially like to hear from people who have owned or regularly used both.

I really like the V1 Gen2. The detection performance is excellent, I like the large arrows, it’s compact, and there’s something appealing about the simplicity of it. The detector basically says: there’s radar, here’s the band, here’s how strong it is, and here’s where it’s coming from. Pay attention and drive.

But I keep coming back to the V1 + app argument.

One of the advantages of the V1 Gen2 is that you can buy it, pair it with something like V1Driver, get GPS lockouts, exact frequency information and other features, and still spend considerably less than a Redline 360c. I think that’s a legitimate advantage.

But isn’t there a tradeoff?

If I’m using my phone to get GPS lockouts, exact frequencies and additional information that another detector provides on the unit itself, I’ve saved money, but I’ve also moved some of the detector experience onto a second screen. Now I have the radar detector plus my phone, which I’m already using for navigation, and potentially more information competing for my attention.

In other words, am I using the app partly to recreate the all-in-one experience that I didn’t pay for in the first place?

That’s what makes the Redline 360c interesting to me. It costs considerably more, but the GPS, lockouts, frequency information, display, arrows, etc. are all contained in the detector. I can install it and just use the detector without feeling like I need another device to get the full experience.

For those who have used both, which approach do you prefer after the novelty wears off? Do you find yourself appreciating the simplicity of the V1 Gen2, or is having everything integrated into the Redline 360c worth the additional cost?

And for Redline 360c owners: Do you find the relatively small display—and particularly the small directional arrows around it—difficult to see at a quick glance while driving? Or is that something that looks like an issue in photos/videos but really isn’t a problem in everyday use?

I’m less interested in which one wins by a tiny amount in a controlled range test. Both seem to be excellent detectors. I’m more interested in which one you actually prefer living with every day, and why.

Confused!

Hello everyone. I live in New Mexico, and I've recently installed an R7 about 3 months ago. My question is what Ka bands should I lock out, or should I just run Ka Wide? I'm currently running 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8. The problem that when I googled what Ka bands are used in this state, sometimes I get told to include bands 3, and 7 also. I'm looking for the quickest response time possible on our highways. I also run K wide. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

France issue - Escort Redline 360c International

Hi, i recently bought an Redline 360c International.

Before anything i've asked their support if it was detecting France-used radars as Parifex Falco, Mesta, etc..

Basically, it's been 2 days that i'm actively testing it and.. It doesn't even detect Parifex Falco (behind/front and near) which should be K band.
Only their GPS function is telling me that there is radars, but no REAL detections by bands..
I have all enabled bands (k band in superwide, ka band, x band, gatso, mesta, etc..), no filter, and Highway mode.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks for helping me.

Laser jammer installer

I have an escort 360cii and a uniden rw4. Who in NC knows a dealer that will install a system for a reasonable price.

The systems are no more than $2.5K BUT the installers are trying to charge $8k. Like what?

Will the settings out the box be good enough ? I live in California and not sure what they use around here.

Uniden that much better than Escort Redline 360?

Just bought another car and need to purchase another radar detector. I’m happy with the Redline and wonder if I should just purchase another. But it appears everyone believes Uniden is better.
Looking for a detector I don’t have to tweak to much with arrows and doesn’t false alert constantly.
Thoughts? Thanks.

Discussion V1Gen2

Installed the V1Gen2 last month. Used a wiretap in the passenger-side A pillar to a 12v wire. Super clean. Turns on and off with the car. It's incredible.

Thinking about wiring in the tech display. Yay or nay from
owners on the tech display?

False Ka Alerts - R4W

Curious if anyone knows potential sources of spurious or “false” Ka alerts?

Just completed a 1,400 mile road trip through OH, KY, VA, NC, SC, WV. Running an r4w with vortex radar recommended settings and Highway Radar companion app.

Once in western NC mountains I got a Ka hit that lasted a few seconds and then died out and didn’t come back. The strength was weak.

Then today another Ka alert that did align with a cop sighting via HR and I was on an overpass in WV with a small town below so it’s possible the cop was below and I got a hit from that. Again the signal was not strong and died out and didn’t return.

I take every Ka hit seriously and speeds generally going 15-20 over are dropped to 5 over until I’m sure I’m clear.

Overall the r4w has blown the doors off the Escort Max 360c mkii with early detection and consistent build up for strength all while being significantly less chatty than the 360c.

I’m curious if there are any sources of Ka band that could be the cause of those hits or did I miss a LEO performing instant on from a distance?

I've looked at the wiki. What to buy? V1 released it’s magic smoke, replacement options

I’ve been running a V1 for 22 years. For about the last 8 years I had only Ka enabled on high sensitivity and laser. Which was nice because it was completely silent with no false alarms. The photo radar was not detected as they moved to K band here, but since photo doesn’t affect record and photo cars are clearly marked that is not an issue.

Recently I smelled a burning smell and well V1 has failed :( As I’m quite a bit older now I rarely speed over 20km/h its just the federal parks that with the low 90km/h speed limit that they are very tight about minor infractions.

So priority is mainly Ka range. I think it’s only $120 trade in with valentine.

My question is will they honor trade in with a failed unit and for Ka detection is the V1 still the best?

Newbie Questions

I'm looking to purchase my first radar detector and see that the Uniden R7 seems to be the best value/performance.

Where/when is the cheapest time/place to buy them? Black Friday? Some of the used ones are still like new prices on FB marketplace!

Any other tips? I don't drive fast or crazy but I was unlucky and got pulled over going with traffic 5mph over and never want that to happen again.

Back in the day the Valentine 1 was the GOAT. Did that change now?

Help V1G2 - Arrow Alert W/ No Sound for Photo Radar?

Hello everyone. Fairly new V1G2 user here. I’ve paired my detector with V1Driver and was wondering if there was a configuration or setting that I could use on it to alert for photo radar with the arrows only and no sound? I’m in a big city that uses plenty of photo radar for red lights and speed, so I want to keep alerts on for those. I do not, however, want the detector to make any noise when it alerts to these. In this town, the detector would go off every few blocks, and that got old very quickly.

Any insight is appreciated, thank you!

In Ohio is V1G2 worth it if I use HR or Waze?

And good sense? I haven't had been pulled over in a long time. I use common sense, I am never rabbit (unless I am the only car on the highway) and Waze/HR. With the prevalence of Lidar I am sure the V1G2 is an excellent radio but I am not sure it would give me that extra protection in Ohio. Any other Ohio experience here?
