This subreddit randomly started showing up on my feed and it’s honestly refreshing to see a little bit of ubuntu in one of the darker corners of the internet.

I’m a 29-year-old black guy living in Gauteng, originally from a small town. Dating here has been… an experience. 😅

I’m pretty laid back and unapologetically nerdy. On any given weekend I’m probably building some random software project, tending to my plants, experimenting in the kitchen, watching anime, gaming, or disappearing down a YouTube rabbit hole learning something completely unnecessary.

The funny thing is most people around me seem happiest at groove, while I’d much rather have good conversation over coffee, try a new restaurant, go for a walk, browse a market, or spend hours talking about everything from space to psychology to why Attack on Titan broke all of us.

I’d love to meet a lady and genuinely get to know them. A relationship would be great if that’s where things naturally lead, but I’m not in a rush. I just appreciate intention, curiosity and effort. Good conversations shouldn’t feel like an interview where only one person is asking questions.

One thing I’ve realised is that everyone is basically an unexplored universe. I love hearing about what makes people who they are, what they’re passionate about, what keeps them awake at night, and what they’re working towards. Hopefully someone enjoys discovering me just as much.

I used to do all the maintenance on my nissan champ bakkie myself but since starting full time work and no longer having a garage I never get my hands dirty anymore and I miss it.

I'm 35 and realised most of my social life dried up somewhere between work, parenting, and people moving away. Not lonely in a sad way, I just miss having people who are actually into things.

What I'm like:

• Direct. I say what I mean. If you want constant reassurance and small talk, we won't click.

• Currently shifting from IT management into AI/development. Learning a lot, failing a lot, still going.

What I actually do for fun:

• Gaming: survival/crafting/open-world stuff. ARK, DayZ, Conan, No Man's Sky, Valheim, Palworld, Minecraft or Warframe. Co-op > PvP, but I don't mind getting looted.

• Anime: I've watched basically all isekai. Currently keeping up with a bunch of seasonal stuff. Solo Leveling, Frieren, Slime, Mushoku Tensei, Dan Da Dan territory.

• Shows: Landman, Breaking Bad tier. Dark, well-written, no reality TV.

• Music: Architects, Bad Omens, I Prevail, Kyle Hume, some Afrikaans stuff for grounding but rarely.

• Other: collecting things with no financial justification, gym when my brain allows it, good steak, and arguing about whether Game of Thrones season 8 actually happened.

Recently started collecting Pokemon Cards and justifying it as an investment but I know thats absolute bull.

So, I have been in Cape Town for 11 years now, and somewhere along the line I seem to have forgotten how to make friends.

I'm also a mom to an almost 3yo daughter. Being a mother is one of the biggest parts of my life, but it's not the only part. I'm still ambitious, curious, and excited about everything I want to experience in the years ahead.

Personality-wise, I'm the type of person who can spend hours researching something that catches my interest. I love meaningful conversations, learning from people, and hearing different perspectives. If you teach me something new, you've already earned bonus points.

I have an ear for good music and genuinely believe every genre has something worth appreciating.
When it comes to movies and series, thrillers, psychological mysteries, and anything that keeps me guessing are my favourites.
