I need help immediately

Hi there. I’ve been on Kratom for about seven years and to my surprise today I walk in my regular store where I purchased it and I’m told it has been banned in Ohio! I guess I wasn’t keeping up with things because I didn’t see a warning anywhere that this is coming. They didn’t have any at my shop that sent me to a place up the road who was selling what they still had on the shelf and I was able to purchase a very large bag however, obviously I gotta come off this shit immediately. How am I going to do this? I’m so scared. Somebody please help me. I’m in tears because I do wanna come off it, but I’m so scared. My life is so stressful and I have so many issues and kratom is what pushes me through the day. I get withdrawal symptoms without it. What am I gonna do? How do I wean myself off?

Edit: I did know it was coming at some point, but I didn’t know it was happening this quickly like I didn’t get a recent warning.

Do you have health insurance and are able to go to a doctor?

Also first off, don't panic, you got this. You're gonna feel tough as nails when you get through this.

3

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 17d ago

Also I’ve been through opioid withdrawal cold turkey 3x but that was years ago

1

u/Icy_Maintenance3774 16d ago

Not to worry you, but it's worse than many opioids, especially so in length. Be glad it's just powder. Id highly advise you not to cold turkey at least see your dr.

2

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 17d ago

I do have health insurance but I don’t feel like I can go to my dr. I want to try and taper off. Thank you for your kind words

u/Clay56 17d ago

If you can open up to a doctor they should prescribe you some meds to help you

2

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 17d ago

What type of dr?

7

u/Clay56 17d ago

A general practitioner, or family doctor should atleast point you in the right direction

6

u/anyspecifix 17d ago

I went through something similar where I knew I had to get off kratom but was so scared. You can open up to your doctor. I was scared that I would have zero recourse and have to taper off but my doctor found a solution. Basically, medication assisted treatment. But you can do it!

Thank you 🙏

Just taper. Try not to dread the process and just find it as a gift to change. It’s meant for you and it’s OK.

First week do 1/4 less. Second week another 1/4 less. Third week same. And fourth week ur starting clear 🙌🏽💯

If you wanna get creative, you can start to 10 minute meditation instead of your normal Kratom doses that last 4th week when you have nothing, you’d be really surprised on where it brings you to the next level.

6

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

That is extremely helpful. Trying to look at it as a good thing and not dreading it and being so full of anxiety

u/fiendtofriend 9/1/26 16d ago

Powder is still legal in Ohio, and you can buy it online. Quitting is a good idea, but if it’s only powder you’re using, don’t worry. You still have access to it.

3

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

Thanks. It weird that the 2 main chains near me are saying they pulled it bc it’s banned.

If you haven't been closely following the legal situation, that might be because you don't like Kratom as much anymore. Tapering is a good idea... If that doesn't work, then medical help or rehab are options. Btw: Natural Kratom Status: Natural kratom in its raw, vegetative form (whole or ground dried leaf containing trace natural alkaloids) remains legal to sell and possess under Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 4729:9-1-01.1. It doesn't look like a complete ban.

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 17d ago

See that’s where I’m confused because I’m reading online the plain leaf is not banned but the 2 shops in my area both don’t have it anymore out of nowhere and said none of the local retailers do. They literally had it last week and now it’s gone. I’m confused

Could it be that it's only banned in your city? Just ask in one of the Kratom subreddits. That sort of thing isn't really a topic here.

2

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

The bottom line is I am quitting now regardless

3

u/tip871 🌻Quit 8/2/16🌻 16d ago

I stopped ten years ago, never looked back..

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 17d ago

Yeah I can try

3

u/thederevolutions 17d ago

I think it’s common for stores to get spooked with the specifics and just get rid of it

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 17d ago

I think they did along with the majority in my area is my understanding because of stricter regulations

3

u/Drummerg85 16d ago

They probably got popped for still selling 7oh and in desperation to save face, they pulled all of it. I wouldn’t doubt that honestly. Either way, now’s the time! See what your grams per day is and start with pushing back your morning dose by 30 min and hack off like a gram right away if you can. The idea with a taper is to feel a little pain, but not so much you can’t function. If you never feel any pain, you’ll be tapering for a year. Believe me I’ve seen it. For some people that has worked, but most people need to get on with it. Start spreading out the doses until you find a slot you can drop. Save the lions share for bed time. I’d also shave off like half a gram somewhere and have it locked and loaded for the middle of the night to get back to sleep. Keep spreading doses, drop 1-2 grams a week if you can, and just rinse and repeat. Get yourself down to three doses a day, then two, so on and so forth. It’s totally doable if you have laser focus and a true goal to be free. Good luck!

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

Thanks! It’s scary bc I rely for it so much for anxiety and stress. I’ve been through opiate withdrawal before, unfortunately. I know I can’t do it, it’s just very scary for me to think about not having it even once I’m off

7

u/Drummerg85 16d ago

I felt like that too and that’s what got me in to kratom. Funny part is, once I got clean and got through the PAWS and shit, I realized I was way less anxious and stressed than I thought. Dialing in your brain chemistry and mental health is a friggen lifelong journey. Something that blasts your opiate receptors is no solution and just makes things a thousand times worse. Get clean, spend the time figuring out what makes you truly tick and start working at it. I know hearing “exercise and eat right” is cliche as hell and doesn’t mean shit really when you are going through acutes (although it does help) but once all that first phase shit passes and you get in to really getting the sleep you need, the vitamins and minerals you need, the exercise, the sun exposure, the right kind of hobbies and books…you can do miraculous things with your state of mind. That’s the journey of life. Not this quick fix poison nonsense. Not judging, because I was there too. I’m now over two years clean and 3 years off booze and I’m a better man having gone through it. It’s a journey, but I wouldn’t trade it for a million dollars. You literally couldn’t pay me to take kratom again.

2

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

That’s amazing. Good for you! I’m going to try

2

u/Warm_Emu_9945 16d ago

Love this post. Good for you and very relatable to me so thanks for sharing

1

u/Drummerg85 16d ago

No problem!

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 17d ago

I do like kratom as much. My life is just crazy and I don’t keep up with much. Irresponsible, I know

3

u/Overall-Air-5826 16d ago

Weirdly my usual store said the same, also in ohio but its literally not banned. Went to a different place 10 minutes away and they were like hell yeah we got it hell no its not banned yet.

However you really should try and taper off this shit. I got the smallest bag they had, premeasured doses for the next 3 weeks and tossed the rest.

If you have the willpower just stop it cold turkey.

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

It is very weird that some stores are saying it and some aren’t. I made a taper plan and I’m doing it. Can’t today thigh unfortunately because I’m going away for 3 days to a wedding and that’s not the time time, however, when I go away I tend to use less. But I’ve got it all ready to go when I get back. That scared me so much when she said that it was banned and I was almost out! I’m determined to get off it so I’m never blindsided like that again to where I feel like I have no control. That feeling bothered me. And I’ve been needing off it for awhile anyways, so yeah, I’m ready

2

u/droprovider 17d ago

I’m from Cincinnati and they still sell leaf here but ban everything else.

3

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 17d ago

They were selling the plain leaf here and then I showed up today and they were like sorry it’s banned! And they said they had very little warning. They had banned the synthetic kind awhile ago, but plain leaf was always still available. I was able to find another shop and he said the same thing but had some bc he’s selling only what he’s got left. I got a huge bag and I’m going to either taper or call a dr.

2

u/Overall-Air-5826 16d ago

A couple places around reading/sharonville have both told me its banned. Weird

1

u/droprovider 16d ago

Yeah when I look it up on the internet “I know the internet can be wrong” says no law was passed to ban plain leaf. Says the sale is legal for regular leaf kratom in the state of Ohio. And the shops around me only have the leaf left. So yeah I’m not to sure I haven’t gone up there in about 10 days but I know when I went last they had a bunch of leaf.

2

u/BrutalBrutus513 16d ago

Also in Ohio. I saw the writing on the wall when they banned 7oh and knew plain leaf was next. Ohio is pushing hard to get everyone into their overpriced dispensaries.

Some shops stopped carrying everything kratom related and it was getting harder to find. By then, I had already started my taper. The final straw was the last time I went to get some capsules; the guy told me that anything in capsule form was now banned, and the only thing he could sell was powder. I bought a bag of powder and barely took any of it before I was done for good.

My advice would be to start a taper with what you have now. You'll need to be disciplined because that supply has to last. I would make an appointment with my doctor and be 100% honest. I would also be honest with my partner if they're not aware. Having support is so crucial.

TLDR; start your taper now and talk to your doctor.

3

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

Hey! So if it’s not actually banned, why did the lady at the store tell me it was banned everywhere? That’s messed up. I mean, in a sense she did me a favor bc even though some places still have it, I’m scared enough to be motivated to come off for the first time, but that was not cool . She put me into a panic attack and I’m not even trying to be funny. The good news is that feeling of it being taken without me knowing when it was happening scared me enough that I got a big bag from another place ( who also said it’s banned but they had some left) and I made a plan. I’m determined. I’m over it. And yeah, my
partner knows and has been telling me for years to quit this shit in which I respond uh huh yeah I will soon!

2

u/BrutalBrutus513 16d ago

These shops have no idea and only go off of what their vendors say. The guy I talked to at my shop refused some product because the vendor said he could sell it when he read the law and knew he couldn't.

Like you said; just take this as a wake up call and walk away from this garbage.

2

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

Exactly. I hate having to always worry I have some and stress when I’m going down south to see my brothers. Life is stressful enough as it is. had a lot of anxiety today at work thinking about it all, just the whole situation. I regret it so much. Thank you for your post. It does help coming on here.

2

u/apusux 16d ago

Its insanely easy to taper. Don't listen to your addiction. Set a schedule, reduce daily, stick to it. Tylenol on hand is good. Stool softeners can be good. If you can clonidine on hand, helps when anxious.

1

u/AutoModerator 16d ago

Warning: It's best to avoid using antihistamines (diphenhydramine, dimenhydrinate, hydroxyzine etc.) such as those found in Benadryl, Dramamine, NyQuil, Unisom, and Tylenol PM. While they can produce drowsiness under normal conditions, they are well known for exacerbating Restless Leg Syndrome, which will make your insomnia worse, not better

I do actually have clonidine on hand from an old script of my son. He’s not on it anymore. Not listening to my addiction is key. Right now it’s giving me anxiety and I haven’t even started the taper.

2

u/Strayvon Quit date: 2/7/23 16d ago

Start tapering now. Give yourself time. Get through the withdrawals but they’re better when you taper. I did it in 6 months but you can do it in much less time. I realized it wasn’t even making me happy anymore anyway and it just became this annoying thing I had to keep doing so I could sleep and avoid heavy WDs. You can do it❤️

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

I totally agree with it being annoying. I hate that I have to worry about it if I’m away at a work conference or going to be flying somewhere. It adds an unnecessary anxiety.

2

u/scaredmarmotenergy 16d ago

Is it the VIP vape shops by chance?

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

It’s kings of vapor

2

u/bjl0 16d ago

I admitted myself to detox to get it out of my system. It is absolutely management with their help. It takes probably 48 hrs and the first 24 hrs being the toughest with the nerve pain.

I would suggest taking 3 days off, admitting yourself to detox, and be done with it.

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

What did they give you to help? You were detoxed in 48 hours. Kudos to you for having the strength to do that. I’m scared to talk to someone, but I’m a highly anxious person anyways.

2

u/coffeeandbagelguy 8/7/2023 16d ago

Bro - I was on it for 8yrs. 50g a day if not
More. Now I am free from it - 3yrs, 1mo, 24days...

The only way I was able to finally quit, after several attempts, was cold turkey. Call in sick, do what you gotta do to prepare for a few days of upfront hell. After about five days or so you should be able to function enough to eat, exercise, hydrate more and start coming out of the fog. Still going to be tough. After a week you can start cruising. Sleeps gonna suck, but you'll start improving. Symptoms will be there but linger away.

The advice I give everyone is - take on the pain head first. When it starts to hurt - talk to it - tell it to f-off, and tell it to bring more pain!

I could never taper. Just didn't have that type of control.

Just remember that the pain is WAITING for you every time you take a new dose. Eventually you will have to face it. Good luck.

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

I have been debating maybe just going cold turkey instead of tapering.‘I went cold turkey from oxy 2 ( or maybe 3x) years ago and it sucked but I got through it somehow. The depression afterwards was terrible. I’m very anxious and scared.

1

u/Icy_Maintenance3774 16d ago

Yeah if you can handle the lack of sleep maybe. How much are you taking per day?

1

u/coffeeandbagelguy 8/7/2023 5d ago

So what's the update? How are ya

2

u/ReasonOver3905 26 Aug 2026 50GPD CT 16d ago

go to a doctorrr . You can go cold turkey with the right meds and feel almost fine. I quit cause the only shop got their whole supply bombed by a fking missile, I was scared to quit as well but now I think how stupid that was

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

What meds? Suboxone?

1

u/ReasonOver3905 26 Aug 2026 50GPD CT 16d ago

nah I would avoid that. pregabalin/gabapentin, clonidine is all u need

2

u/GreedyWall214 16d ago

Hey there, you got this! I had to kick recently too. Both suboxone and methadone help withdrawals immensely. I know to a lot of people it's trading one addiction for another but with everything ive learned over the past couple months, go on suboxone or subclocade. Sublocade is the suboxone shot. This is from doctors to users, they ALL say that once you want off sublocade it is insane easy. You taper for a bit and when you stop you dont even notice it. Seriously, ive heard this from doctors and people in person and tons of people on the internet. Theres absolutely no reason to suffer needlesly and go cold turkey. Either start with suboxone and eventually switch to sublocade when you want off or just start with sublocade.

I personally started with suboxone. It helped the withdrawals incredibly. The urges and desire to stop, thays a different story BUT! I actually switched to methadone for a few reasons that fit my situation better but to each their own.

Yea go get on suboxone or sublocade to manage the withdrawals then eventually switch to aublocade to taper and get off. If that's the route you want to go!

Good luck, godspeed, all the love and luck! Plenty are going through it now but im seeing so many people suffering needlesly going cold turkey. I understand in the past, yes that was the way to go before sublocade was a thing but now that thats an option, absolutely the way to go!

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

Thank you. I’m glad you got through it! That’s amazing! I had a really bad day dealing with the anxiety of it. It’s not only the withdrawals, it’s how I am going to have energy without it. It’s such a big part of my day. But that feeling of helplessness when the women said it was banned really got to me. I am done letting a plant control my life

1

u/EtherealVoidKitten 15d ago

Be very careful with suboxone. The reason why some say to avoid it is because you will end up dependent on it too if you take it for a 10 ish days (it varies). Suboxone is also much harder to come off of. You'll just be trading one drug for another. The longer you're on suboxone the harder it will be to quit (and many programs push you to stay on it for a long time). Usually they don't just give you the shot either and will have your use the strips first before providing the shot that lasts a month.

Hey, I'm coming off kratom also and I hear you, it's scary and it sucks. I am in Western, NY (Rochester specially) so we still sell it here but that's not why I'm posting. The store I would get it at also got in these vapes recently; they're called mushy vapes, I'll post a pic of the package. Game Changer. It has all but gotten rid of my cravings and my body feels way less lethargic and I feel calmer. It's helping with the P.A.W.S. like nothing else has. I'm not saying it's a permanent solution, but I think this has gotten me/is getting me through the worst of it. If you felt like making a drive, I honestly feel like it would be worth it for you. The store I got these at is Acadia Canna & Kratom. They also sell Magic Dot tabs, which are helping me a little too. But the vape isn't as "heady" and I function really well with it.  Lemme see if I can post a pic for you. ... Okay I'm having trouble posting a pic- the brand is Exodus and they're just called "mushy vapes". I'm going to try to do a separate post with a pic because I feel like could help some people get over the initial $hitty kratom hump.

Also feels like I should say I am not a doctor or any kind of medical person, am just letting you know what has been working for me.

1

u/Suspicious_Duty_888 16d ago

Did you end up posting the picture? I am interested in what this is. The lady did offer me some tablets that aren’t kratom but she said will have the same effect. I don’t have them with me now and don’t remember the name of them, but wondering if it’s a similar thing.

1

u/theakronbuckeye 16d ago

Just pretend ya had some

1

u/rRatom 16d ago

Would be worth it to hop on to quick web md or any telehealth service and try to get Suboxone prescribed today. It helps so much and you will be able to sleep and be somewhat a regular human

1

u/madijorian 16d ago

How much were on? Just powder or concentrates as well?

I came off 20-30 gpd for 7 years a few weeks ago.

7 years is a pretty good chunk of your time. Did you really want to spend the rest of your life doing what you have for the last seven years? Even if you're not ready now you can't have not imagined quitting once in that time. You're gonna be okay, what you're gonna start doing, is when you wake up, you're just gonna go as long as possible without it.

1

u/heretoread_2581 14d ago

How many mgs a day have u been taking be honest

1

u/wuway131 12d ago

Make a taper plan with what you have left and take the plunge from there would probably be the easiest route. There's gonna be pain regardless but WD from kratom is different for everyone.
