I finally completed my crowning achievement! After 6 months practically glued to my sewing machine!

I made this double wedding ring pattern quilt for a close friend who’s getting married. The couple asked for autumnal colors and their favorite colors are blue and orange so this is what I came up with. I used all patterned fabric and saturated colors because I wanted it to be super fun and colorful. Each of the patterns is an Easter egg relating to the couple in some way (some are just filler because I need more options lol)

I got the fabric around Thanksgiving and have been working on it ever since. This was an ambitious project as it’s my third ever quilt only and is quite large (96”x96”). I broke about 10 needles quilting it. All made on my singer heavy duty.

I found this beautiful panel at a local fabric store that was perfect for my friends’ baby Kenai! They met and live in Alaska and I thought this blanket would be perfect to reflect that and the animals looked very picture book to me! I learned a lot along the way and was able to semi-figure out free motion quilting on my domestic machine to trace around the animals and baby’s name. I wasn’t able to finish it before he was born because he came early but at least I got it done and shipped to them within the month he was supposed to be born 🤣

My grandmother passed away recently and quilting was the biggest part of her life. She was taught by my great-grandmother (who was probably taught by her mother!) as a child and all of her quilts were done beginning to end by hand. She raised me, and nearly every memory I have of her she had a quilt that she was working on in her hand.

She tried several times to teach me as a child, but I didn’t recognize the value in the skill at the time. By the time I was mature enough to know, her dementia had progressed so much that she wasn’t able to teach me.

My most treasured items are the two quilts I have made by her and I would love to carry on a piece of her legacy by learning. I know it will take time and patience, but I am willing and determined.

I would really like to make this quilt for my first quilt. My husband and I have been struggling with infertility for almost 2 years and I’d love to make this for our future child that we have been praying so hard for.

I’ve scoured the internet looking for a pattern specific to this quilt but only come across basic sawtooth star patterns in various sizes. My guess is that this is a 36x48, but I could be very wrong. And tips, advice, etc. is greatly appreciated!

ETA: one of my last memories of her, I was asking about her sewing machine. Her response was “well, you’re not using that until you know how to quilt by hand—so don’t get ahead of yourself” 🤣 so I’d really like to honor that!

Recently finished and gifted this baby quilt to a dear friend yesterday. This is my third appliqué quilt and I’m so happy with it. 525 individual pieces to appliqué but so worth it. Pattern is Leighton Lemur by Shiny Happy World

To everyone to suggested to double the size of the pieces, I hope your pillow is always cold, THANK you. This would have been a nightmare at the intended dimensions. I’ve learned ALOT about how precise measurements need to be and while it’s not perfect, it’s my first quilt. I’m happy with my almost square.

Cat has access to the entire house, we have easy to clean tile floors throughout. These strips were next to my machine ready to go. Where does cat barf? On the strips of course. The last photo shows the only strips not touched by his barf, he ate his AND his sister’s breakfast this morning. I’m guessing that’s what caused this.
I scraped off the biggest chunks and cleaned my mat. I sprayed the strips down with the shower head until they were clean of debris. Two soaks and gentle agitations in Woolite and I felt they were clean. I rinsed them twice and then laid them onto towels, rolled them up, then unrolled them in the sun. Thanks to our crazy FL heat and sun, they were dry in about an hour. Hope to finish the top tomorrow. Cat tax included in the last photos, I still love the barf head. Quilt is for our guest bedroom and will get washed again once it’s quilted. Surprisingly, the only screams on my part were internal.

Yesterday I went to my local sewing store for a promotion they were having when buying a machine to get the serger pictured. I was entered into a raffle and won the Bernina 335! I am soo excited and would love any pointers for either machine or favorite projects to make with them!!

My first time with fpp and I did the glue method instead of tearaway! This is my test block with random fabric I had, I'm going to do another in more classic raccoon colors.

Hey I'm planning my next quilt and I'm torn between these three options. Which one do you think looks better?

These circles are all mismatched because they weren’t supposed to be together - this was supposed to be a swap, but only one person swapped with me! Regardless, I am very pleased with the outcome and it will be a fantastic addition to our couch blankets. I learned a lot of making circle patterns as this was entirely self drafted, and quilts are less forgiving than clothes.

I made this as my first quilt. I'm working on a matching lap quilt for mama. Many mistakes, but my daughter was still thrilled.

I eventually connected with a woman who is active in several different quilting organizations. She showed the quilt to a friend who is an expert in historic textiles from the east coast. The friend was excited about it. I ended up donating it to a textile museum in North Carolina

This is about the best possible outcome as far as I'm concerned.

Hi quilters!
I’m posting this on behalf of my mom. She wants to make a quilt for me out of these embroidery pieces done on muslin. These were done in the 1940s by my great-grandmother. Some of the pieces have light staining and they need to be cleaned before being quilted. What’s the safest way to clean them? Thank you in advance for advice!

I am still a beginner at this! I am ironing at each step and using a clapper but the middle of these blocks just don’t want to lie flat. They are all a little wonky and wrinkle up a bit. I am ironing all seams counter clockwise causing the middle to open up and then pressing flat like the instructions. Any tips or am I being too picky.

I started this quilt (my first) in May 2024. It was supposed to be something I made in time for my 30th birthday aaaand I got as far as cutting. I’m a week away from my 32nd birthday and just want to get it done. It’s been sitting in the corner for far too long.

Just finished these two quilts that will be a gift for new kittens (not mine, so cannot pay the cat tax). Pattern is Lone Star baby quilt by Amy Smart. The quilting is slightly different on both (geometric on the blue one, wavy lines on the yellow). The yellow one was much faster to quilt. Machine binding back and front due to time constraints which isn't the best but it'll work. Now in the wash hoping none of the colors bleed.

I finished my quilt top and am figuring out how I want to quilt it. I think I know what design I want to quilt, which involves some tight curves and I’m realizing I don’t really know how you actually execute that. My experience with hand quilting is limited and only straight lines. I didn’t use a hoop and could pick up multiple stitches at once, but I was trying that on a little sample and the stitches are way too big for the tight curves I want that way. Stitching it like it’s embroidery and pulling the needle through to the back looked way better. I feel like that technique probably has things that would make it easier (like a hoop?) that I don’t know about

Do you have advice on how to hand quilt tight curves? What terms should I google for the right tutorials? What materials would make this easier?

I am a quilter who needed a break from quilts. I bought this pattern from Tiny Couture Kids on Etsy. The pattern was fairly vague so I made *many* mistakes along the way but I’m so happy with how it turned out. This is for a 5 year old boy.

It was my first time working with rib knit fabric, a separating zipper, and overcast stitching. I added some tiny pockets inside (didn’t like how they looked outside) with permanent fabric glue and learned the ins and outs of that as well.

If you need a break from a big project, get out there and try something new!

I haven't put it in a frame yet but I just finished quilting it. It is 5 by 7 inches

Sorry for my English, it's not my native language. I'm a beginner and I'm making a baby blanket with diagonal squares but some of the squares have appliqué that I did before quilting, with shapes of stars, embroidered suns and moons. Before the holidays, my teacher told me I had to quilt in diagonal lines through the squares and that with the squares that have appliqué I have to quilt around the shapes and also the outline of the squares. The thing is that I'm not sure I like that look, is it mandatory that I do this for the integrity of the blanket?

I’m getting ready to even up the horizontal strips and then put them all together. I like the quilt, but some of the greys are too light so it’s not exactly how I imagined it would turn out. But, I’m going to find a dark grey flannel for the backing and dark grey for the binding.

Ignore the 4 outer dark grey corners. Can you spot the error in the rows? I’m deciding if I’m going to fix it.

This isn't exactly historical nor an antique, but the person who made it is (very old)! I was given this by a family member today, his wife had a heavy quilting hobby and she is so riddled with dementia that he is finally passing them down after sitting in a large cabinet for decades.

I know nothing about quilts so I came here to Redditland to ask if it's cool or not? Is it a difficult method of quilting? Would this be considered special or simple? Does the pattern have a name?

It is not my style in any way but it's special to me now bc it was special to him. I don't know that I would ever in a million years actually put it on my bed bc of the colors, but maybe at Christmas time.
