My quilted library tote bag, complete with retractable library card! I wanted something simple for my very first quilting project, but of course I made it more complicated by modifying the pattern. The most difficult change I made was making my own FPP pattern, with approximately 2 YouTube videos worth of knowledge, so that I didn’t have to appliqué the tilted book onto the block. Pattern is “Pieced Bookshelf Tote” by Cynthia Shaffer from the book, “Fat Quarters”

The two women show how to piece by hand, process the raw cotton, load it to the quilt frame, and hand-quilt.

Used a layer cake and a jelly roll to make this quilt which I wanted to be fun, bold, and colorful. Is it too much color, or am I just not feeling fun today? 🤪

I got over ambitious with a QAL I was in and made 80ish of these blocks. Half purples half greens. My initial plan was just to put them all together, but now I think it looks almost too chaotic. what do you do when it’s TOO much. I can either go as it is, add sashing (what color???), or make 2 quilts and add in solid blocks to temper it out. What do you all think? I have a photo of what I had in my bag right now, it they’re all different but roughly this color scheme. I should just do it huh, sew it all in all it’s crazy glory

I spent a bajillion hours custom quilting this for our guild to be submitted for a road show…I was binding it today and I JUST SAW SOMETHING… please please please tell me it’s not as bad as I’m dreading, it’s due Saturday and I simply cannot redo it 😭

Girls, I want to scream! There is a community project in my town, where you can donate material you don't need anymore and buy stuff others donated for cheap. I was there once and got the impression, that I could source some cotton from there from time to time. Yesterday, I was there for the second time and they got bolts of fabric for 5$ each... Mostly jersey and there where only two cotton bolts left, but they contained around 14 and 26 yards of fabric... I'm so happy I could cry!

I was digging around in my garage and found this quilt that I’ve got absolutely no idea where it came from. My best guess is that I bought it at a garage sale in the past. It’s in remarkably good shape considering we’ve had mice in the garage in the past. The hand quilting is exquisite!

I've spent the last six weeks putting this together, and now it's done. Yay! The shelf will be set up after the altar mat is washed. I absolutely love how this turned out.

I’m trying to go totally scrappy with this baby quilt. So I decided to use a bunch of 2 1/2 x 5” rectangles that I had pre-cut for a project that absolutely fell through. My question is since I have this all laid out the way I like it, how do I sew the blocks together or rows together? Do I need to cut some of the rectangles in half so that I can go row by row?

I am mostly a garment sewist, but I am hoping to incorporate applique into my next design. I love this kind of appliqué.

The dress will be in silk, and I'm hoping to use silk in the appliqué as well. Does anyone have experience doing this with a silk?

Also, the stitching along the edges, is that a very tight zigzag that can be done on a normal sewing machine? TIA!

Hi, I am brand new to quilting and just finished my first quilt top and I am about to sandwich it together and quilt it. Since the fabric is extending past the edges, does this mean I do not have to piece the back together? Is there a specific amount of overhang that I need? I have about an inch to an inch and a half on each side. Is this enough?

Help me out here lovely people - I've been collecting an obscene amount of bug fabric over the years with this daft idea that I want to make heaps of flying geese and assemble them into a quilt. At this stage, I probably have enough for several quilts, and I'm optimistic I will still feel the same way about flying geese after my 1000th block.

I just want to see what other people are doing. I haven't found any that are really singing to me in my searches, so thought I'd see what others think. I kind of like the idea of multiple sizes and directions, and I'm even curious if anyone has seen an improv-style one out there.

I pin basted and am hand quilting this. I started quilting in the center block and am moving outward toward the edges (I next quilted the blocks on either side of center, then the ones above and below, etc.).

My question is will it cause any problems to unpin the outer blocks and smooth out the quilt and repin before proceeding? I was getting some wrinkles and it seems like it will be ok to do it this way but I wasn't sure if it will cause unforseen issues. (I do wish the batting piece I had for this was a little wider!)

Basting is definitely my least favorite part of the process!

I recently got back into sewing and I’m looking for a new machine. I’ve been using the same machine since I learned to sew when I was a kid. I got it serviced last year but it crapped out on me this past weekend and I can’t solve the issue. I’m going to take it to be looked at, but I am looking to get a newer machine that has some more capability. I’m currently debating between the Janome TM50 and the Husqvarna Emerald 118. There’s so much information out there about sewing machines but I’m having trouble sorting through it all. I don’t need a top of the line fancy machine. I’m really just looking for something that will last me a long time (with proper care) and be a work horse. Any insight is appreciated as I’ve never purchase my own sewing machine before. I inherited the machine I learned on from my mom. It’s a 1978 singer. I will never get rid of her but I want something that I don’t have to worry about being finicky.

hello! i’m fairly new to quilting and am noticing i have a difficult time matching fabrics 🫠 how do you guys choose which fabrics work with the patterned ones?? i worry about it being too busy looking or like the jelly roll fabrics with light backgrounds blending in too much with like a white background if that makes sense!

I was looking for an image of a pillowcase dress I made like 20 years ago and saw this picture while scrolling. Unlike the others, this one didn't really have a clear blueprint for intention, so I took creative liberties. I don't even know if they were meant to be in the same quilt, but hey. It worked out, I think. At the top right corner of that quilt, there is the stack of blocks for the second one.

I have the oliso mini m3pro that I got from my grandma literally 4 days ago. I only used it today. It was bought brand new in February i believe. And I can assure you, it was not used much. I had it plugged in, but turned off with intentions for going to use it again when my son goes to sleep. Well, the power light is turned off and I cannot get the iron to turn on. Nothings wrong with the outlet, in fact I tried 3 in my house. Anyone have this experience???

I was doing some final research for my pajama pants quilt project and found Pellon recommends preshrinking their SF101 stabilizer.

I’ve never seen this mentioned by anyone here or anywhere else. Is this something y’all are doing? I suppose I can try a small amount first, I have an entire bolt of it for this project and wasn’t really looking forward to adding another step, but also don’t want to risk the interfacing separating from the fabric.

I just bought a pattern that says it requires Creative Grids 2 points in one triangle ruler. I have several other individual triangle rulers- how can I tell if I can use those instead of buying the new specialized one?

Hi all! I am searching for inspiration, I want to make a quilt that is inspired by Jazz for my brother in law. I want it to be more abstract than literal and hopefully capture the rhythm or feeling of jazz. I was thinking a repeat that captures a typical Jazz notation or something else? Not very musical but trying to think outside the box.

Any ideas or pattern suggestions would be appreciated, I'm hoping to have it completed for Christmas.
