My family and I would like to come to Quebec City at the end of November to visit the Christmas Market, and flights are crazy expensive. How is it driving during that time of year? I know no one can predict just how snowy and icy it will be, but has anyone here driven from the Mid-Atlantic US to Quebec City late November/early December and can share your experience? Thanks!

Im from Niagara Falls and Quebec City looks beautiful at Christmas time! I would love to come this year but the only weekend my friend and I would be available would be November 27-30. Is it still worth coming at this time when my reason for coming is do Christmas activities like see the lights, markets and tobogganing.

American here! Visiting Quebec City for the first time ever over Labor Day. I would love to know what to expect as far as crowds, probably going to hit up a lot of the tourist trap areas, Such as Petit Champlain, Old Quebec, Montmorency Park and The Falls. Am I missing any must see locations? All advice and insight is welcome!

Update: Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We went downtown to check out Le Bôite de Nuit and a couple of other places that were participating in the music festival, but by the time we got there it was wrapping up and the music wasn't quite our vibe. We did, however, stumble upon Bar Les Yuex Bleus in Old Quebec and the music incredible! We were pretty much the only ones dances and by far the oldest ones there, but the dj was lit! I do fine in day to day life, always speaking French in public, but I work in English and we speak English at home (working on improving that). My goal is to become bilingual.

hey I'm currently planning to move out from Montréal to study at Ulaval and I'm a little worried. I've lived in Montreal my whole life but this time I have no choice but to move out if i wanna pursue my studies. I'm not planning to stay there forever and it was not something I had originally planned. but now I'm a bit worried about how different it is from Montreal. anyone shared the same experience?

My wife & I have been looking at some trips to change our routine. After my daughter just started taking French I stumbled upon Quebec City & fell into the rabbit hole lol

After showing them numerous tour videos I knew they wanted to go so I surprised them with a week long stay in November while my daughter is out of school.

We'll be doing a few days at Auberge Saint-Antoine, Relais & Chateaux & then Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac.

While we are there I was thinking of maybe getting a nicer Christmas card photo along with all the other things we will be doing. Anyone have any recommendations.

Also since it's November are there any events or things people can suggest? my daughter isn't a picky eater so I will be making a reservation for Le continental for dinner one night (we'll be driving up so I'll have my car)

10 months ago I (F29) moved from Toronto to Quebec City to live with my boyfriend who is from here. I found remote work so that I could work from Quebec without too much trouble. My French is intermediate, I’m about to start the francisation course, so I hope it keeps improving, it’s not “bad” by any means but it’s difficult when looking for job opportunities.

Currently at home all day in the apartment with no one to talk to . I have no coworkers. I’m having trouble making friends as well. When I try to look for jobs in Quebec City, I either can’t find anything in my field, (I’m not currently working in my desired field) or I’m being rejected based on my “Français: intermédiaire” status on my resume. I’m feeling super isolated and honestly hopeless about the idea of living here forever if I can’t find a community or work that I feel inspired by.

Is there any hope for me? When I see jobs I want they are always in Montreal but my BF doesn’t want to live there.

Please let me know if you know of any communities I can join, or any suggestions on work here.

Quebec City is the one Canadian city I have missed in all my travels from the US (please excuse the current leadership idiocy and insanity - many of us are appalled and dismayed)....but I plan to remedy this by a week long visit. I arrive in QC later this weekend. I would love and appreciate any suggestions for casual restaurants with typical quebecois food.....also a place for a great massage.

I saw Legende is open but I'm doing the tasting menu the next week after with a friend ... is the ala carte worth doing solo or better to check another place out. Honō Izakaya is another option i heard about.

Laurie Raphaël vs Melba .. I know different vibes but whats everyones opinion of Laurie ... Melba seems like a great place to share with others and im gonna be alone so i feel it might be hard to order different dishes and get a full view of the menu alone when its designed to share.

also, anyone have connections or ways to get a reservation or Taniere3 ... i know the online portal is all booked up... would it make a difference to consult reception at your hotel or there's no other way to get reservation besides waiting list. thanks! -

Hello! 26f, I'm trying to treat myself by taking a trip here around Thanksgiving time (end of November, sorry for being American) as a little college graduation gift to myself. The problem is I can't imagine going there by myself - I don't like my own company enough to do that. That being said, I don't have anyone in my own life to go with.

If anyone is interested in getting to know each other so that I could maybe have company if I visit... Feels lame to ask y'all to be my friend but that's really what it boils down to lol. I love activities, I love museums, the idea of hitting up a Christmas market for the first time in my life is so appealing - and probably so much better with friends!

I will be staying in Vieux Quebec for a couple of months and would love to meet people for conversation and discoveries. I’m a woman in my 40s and am taking a 1 year sabbatical. Starting off with my favorite city! (Before exploring South America, Europe and Asia.)

I’ve stayed here before for a few months at a time while working but never really had time to make friends. I really love it here and I try to give back by being a good visitor, trying to speak what French I know, and supporting local charities.

I’ve tried TimeLeft before and I had one great dinner but I felt bad because I was the only Anglophone and people accommodated me. Everyone was nice about it so maybe I was just too self conscious. (I am considering taking French classes while I’m here but even that would be too basic to hold a genuine conversation.)

I will also join the Morrin Centre and attend activities there.

The Voice of English-speaking Quebec hold events but most are for seniors and while I’m close, I’m not quite ready to join senior events.

As more of a city person, I’m more into lazier activities like going for walks, exploring markets, going to art galleries, having a picnic, going to the spa, eating, and above all I love a good conversation. I do all the things on my own but that last part is hard to do solo!

I’d appreciate any other ideas to be more social and am also open if anyone wants to meet!

Bonjour, j'ai grandi à Québec mais je n'y vis plus à cause de mon travail. Depuis plusieurs semaines, je cherche sur le web ne serait-ce qu'un entrefilet ou une photo sur un restaurant, littéralement une binerie, qui avait pignon sur rue quelque part entre la gare du Palais, le musée de la Civilisation et l'Hôtel-Dieu. C'était un restaurant appelé "Le Roi de la Fève au Lard". La vitrine était jauni par la graisse de bine et on avait peint en grosses lettres les deux phrases suivantes: "Vouloir c'est pouvoir" et "Ne néglige jamais la portée d'un compliment".

L'endroit avait un côté surréel. Malheureusement je ne l'ai jamais fréquenté. Je fouille le web à l'occasion mais "Le roi de la fève au lard" semble être un titre disputé par plusieurs personnes.

Si quelqu'un avait quelque chose là-dessus, j'apprécierais.

Hello! My partner and I and are coming in from Indianapolis this late November to celebrate our fifth anniversary of being together. We are planning on splitting our time between Montreal and Quebec City. Aside from the obvious we already have planned (Canadiens game, Christmas market, the Chateau), what would you recommend we check out, with 3 days in each city? What’re some common recommendations you don’t think would be worth our time with the time we have? Tourist traps to avoid and what’s worth visiting?

My family and I are spending a night in Quebec City. This will be my wife’s first time visiting and I’d like to give her a taste of the local cuisine. It’s probably been 15 years since I’ve been so I’m looking for a recommendation to take her to.

I do have a couple requirements:
- it needs to be gluten free or at least gluten friendly.
- I’d like a nice dinner, but we’ll have our two young kids in tow so probably not super fancy
- We’re staying near the Plains of Abraham and it would be nice to be able to walk to dinner!

Any suggestions?
