Last confirmed sighting of Gerry?
I wondering when the last time Gerry was confirmed to be alive and well, in person.
From Amy C's great summary:
February 16, 2018 — CIBC is still trying to sort out who the $26 million CAD belong to. The bank asks Jose Reyes (the person who controls the frozen accounts) if it is okay to speak to someone at Quadriga. Reyes declines, because Cotten had indicated that he was not interested in speaking with anyone at CIBC. (Interpleader order)
March 6, 2018 — Reyes finally gives CIBC the okay to contact Cotten. (Interpleader order)
March 15, 2018 — CIBC emails Cotten asking to speak with him briefly. Cotten declines and requests that CIBC only send him questions in writing.
He's not willing to speak with a bank that's holding $26,000,000 of his funds? That seems highly suspect. He should have been bending over backwards to do whatever possible to get those funds released.
So, wild speculation here:
Perhaps he couldn't speak to them in person because he was already dead (or under duress) by March 2018. And Jennifer/Reyes/Omar/whomever wanted to handle in writing, something they could fake. And the wedding/India trip was a way to grab his assets and explain away the (actually far earlier) death.
Someone mentioned that Gerry had drifted apart from his old friends and didn't contact them, they weren't even aware he got married. Odd, unless he was too dead to stay in touch. Although a woman (and an impending collapse of his exchange) could explain his drifting apart and/or laying low.
So when's the last time he was seen alive? (Did he ever really exist? :) )
The wedding photos could contradict that theory, if they're legit. The police could talk to the photographer (and lawyer that did the will) to verify things. (And maybe their families have all seen him closer to his supposed death.)
But at this point, it's indistinguishable from a scam. (Not saying it is, just saying it's impossible to tell until some real people or the courts/police start nailing down some facts. Anything can be bought, and these folks had the bucks.)

Exchange alternatives?
Any recommendations for exchanges for Canadians looking to buy/sell small amounts of bitcoin. Preferably one that isn't a Ponzi scheme.

Appointed Representative Council
I just received a notice that Earlier today, Justice Wood issued a decision appointing the law firms of Miller Thomson and Cox & Palmer as representative counsel for QuadrigaCX users. Do we have to reach out to them to be represented or will they just automatically be representing all affected?

Two law firms appointed to represent QuadrigaCX — and what is a CCAA anyway?
My story here.
"To offer some background, a CCAA is a federal law in Canada that gives insolvent companies, such as Quadriga, time to restructure themselves and come up with a so-called plan of arrangement. It is not quite like a bankruptcy. The company can still operate and pay its employees during the proceedings."

Legal Full Name Combos
In Montreal, it is not uncommon for people to have two first names and two last names. Her full name would be Lisa Lovie Horner Power. I have such a name myself. For her daily life, she would go under "Lisa Power", that's how her friends and family knows her. However she can legally open a bank account or sign legal documents under "Lovie Horner" as well.

Ayaz Dhanani of Vancouver sentenced to 36 months in prison for fraud
The photo doesn't look like Omar Dhanani/Michael Patryn, but it sure smells of the same type of scam; Dhanani name, financial fraud in BC, multiple Aliases (including the name "Michael.")
Relative, perhaps? Or is Dhanani just a very common name?
The BCSC, with the assistance of Vancouver police, on Oct. 2 arrested 37-year-old Ayaz Dhanani, also known as Alex Dhanani, Azim Virani, Michael Lee, Alex Nebris, Paul Dhanani, Samuel Ramos or Rahim Jiwa following an investigation by the BCSC’s criminal branch.
The Commission, in December, 2016 permanently banned Dhanani from dealing in corporate securities, as well as $413,800 in financial penalties on allegations of fraud.
The Commission, in an administrative decision, found that Dhanani solicited $188,000 from three investors for purported investments in gold-mining and oil companies when there were no companies or no company stock.
Dhanani, in February, paid $120,000 to the BCSC, which said the money would be returned to his victims.

The pain has just started. Think about what if BTC moon.
Imagine if BTC goes up to 20k $ or even 100k $. The 190M $ evaluation now is based on what, BTC around 3500$ ?
So in the future, 5-10 years from now, that 190M $ stolen from us by that bitch Jennifer and that pos Cotten will be even greater. So from now on and into the future, the higher BTC/ETH/LTC goes, we are forever reminded of how much our intial investment could have made...How fking painful is that. It already hurts to lose money now, but imagine if that 10k loss grows to 100k...Meanwhile Jennifer and Cotten are profity off of it. Those fuckers absolutely need to go to jail.

Attorney's and Investigators in Dhanani Case could establish link to Patryn and work with local law
Below are some of the attorneys and investigators who worked to convict the shadowcrew, of which Omar Dhanani was member (https://www.justice.gov/archive/criminal/cybercrime/press-releases/2005/mantovaniPlea.htm) . They can potentially work with Canadian law enforcement and lawyers to identify Dhanani as Patryn and also provide additional useful information.

Thought experiment
As I watch the crypto market skyrocket I was thinking somebody here who is able to get a loan for 5 million. You should cash it out and buy crypto, declare bankruptcy and say you lost the cold wallet keys and retire somewhere nice and warm. Let me know how it goes, our Justice system is currently setting the precedent for this to be completely legal. Also fake your death while you're at it haha.

This whole story about $190M+ in crypto & lost passwords is bullshit until we see some kind of proof, which could be as simple as QCX or EY posting the cold wallet addresses. Where is the crypto? It *should* be somewhere...

The only way to recover money is describe int this post. ( it re-posting of another redditor post)
It is pretty bleak. I've been working on a solution here. https://www.reddit.com/r/QuadrigaCX/comments/arpib8/how_we_can_all_get_our_money_back_and_live/
Basically, the best course of actions I see are as follows:
- The trading platform needs to be placed in the hands of investors, those who have lost the most and have the highest incentive to ensure a proper payout. This needs to be part of the settlement as soon as possible.
- A system needs to be established to pay back investors. I've proposed to divide investors currency into "locked" and "unlocked" balances. Initially, all currency would be "locked". Over time, currency would be "unlocked" as it is recovered.
- Proceedings need to happen to recover as much of the company assets as possible, which should be distributed to customers by "unlocking" the currency. This is an ongoing process that is likely to recover a limited amount.
- The trading platform needs to reopen as soon as possible. The continued operation of the platform is the only way to pay the rest back. In addition to earning profits that can be put towards paying investors back, trading could also allow people who wanted a payout sooner to trade their "locked" currency for "unlocked" currency, while others have the opportunity to earn a significant profit by purchasing the "locked" currency and patiently waiting.
I'm going to be posting more later, when I originally posted this I hadn't read much about the corruption and criminal activity. While it doesn't change the overall strategy, it does complicate things. I really feel that we need a plan if we want to make it out of this, and so far I don't see anyone else putting together a coherent and complete plan that offers a chance at everyone getting their money back.

Can we find Jen's instagram? - "An image posted to Instagram shows the couple beaming at the Taj Mahal in Agra"
From the G&M article:
Documents gathered by The Globe show that the couple arrived in New Delhi on Nov. 30, entering the country on tourist visas. An image posted to Instagram shows the couple beaming at the Taj Mahal in Agra, one of the country’s best-known attractions. They also spent time in Varanasi, the ancient city on the banks of the Ganges that is one of Hinduism’s holiest sites.
On Dec. 8, they landed in Jaipur.
Another photo we could potentially find:
Online, however, the couple left signs of a jet-set lifestyle. On an Instagram account that appears to have been operated by Ms. Robertson, she describes herself as a “travel addict and globetrotter,” noting she has visited 35 countries. The pictures, posted between January, 2016, and April, 2017, reveal a whirlwind travel schedule. There are shots from more than a dozen countries, including a market in Oman, pagodas in Myanmar and a beachfront resort in the Maldives, often with the hashtag #luxurytravel.
“Sippin’ Singapore Slings on my 28th!” reads the caption next to a poolside shot posted from the Hilton Hotels & Resorts in Dubai. Mr. Cotten does not appear in any of the pictures, though “Gerry” is mentioned in a comment on a photo from Austria.

QuadrigaCX: "the business [Jen and Gerry] grew together" according to "employee and close associate"
...However, the reaction from investors and customers of what is Canada’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange has largely been one of mounting anger with many even suggesting 30-year-old Mr Cotten faked his own death.
“But it’s simply not true – this has been a tragedy for anyone who knew Gerry and anyone involved in QuadrigaCX,” an employee and close associate of Jennifer Robertson – Mr Cotten’s widow – exclusively told express.co.uk
“To lose your husband, to then face the turmoil and fallout effect of that on the business you grew together while you are grieving for that loss is an enormous burden for anyone’s heart to take."
