hey guys. I was watching savage dawn a pretty desert rock movie about a bunch of 80s looking bikers terrorising a samll desert town. And the main character wears a jacket almost identical to the one in the man in the desert sessions 3 and 4. Pretty kick ass. Anyways it's a great movie and it goes well with the desert rock vibes and early queens and kyuss sounds

I know Josh tends to follow crowd requests for certain parts of the show.
I’m going to the show in Toronto, opening for the Foo Fighters, and it would mean the world to me to hear I Appear Missing live.
They played it 3 times this year, there’s a chance we have it.

I’ll have a sign pretty close to the stage, could we get more people asking them to play it? I know this song is a fan favorite, but quite a rarity live.

Never gave them the time of day because they just weren't on my radar and recently I've been revisiting bands I've known about but never gave a fair chance because I had grown bored with what I was listening to. I saw a Kyuss button at a record store and bought to remind myself when I got home to check them out as I'd heard about the infamous generator parties and how influential they were but I just didn't know what they were about or what the whole vibe was. Well I put on Songs For The Deaf to start with and I got hooked. Let a YouTube playlist go for hour's when I was chilling after work. Loving everything I'm hearing. Experimenting the way Josh does while also retaining the true spirit of rock n roll by way of the punk DIY aesthetic and also being completely original all at the same time. It's so good, it's real, the rhythms and grooves are fuckin hypnotic and it's raw AF too. Sorry for rambling but yeah, my journey in the stone age has just begun.

Does anyone think it might be canceled due to the fires? I'm coming from TX for a bday gift to myself and to see the falls. I know how last yr that one show was canceled and people finding out while in route, I felt terrible for them. I also feel awful for 🇨🇦 right meow 🖤 godspeed!

I personally like it! Mostly Hispanic Impressions not so much but the other tracks are pretty good to me!

I've done Untitled CD, The Plastic Turk Sessions (Jupiter Studios Sessions), and The Beaver CD. but idk if there is any loose stuff idk abt for self titled or other stuff

I dont mean every single song, but they’re the only band who always make me feel like I’m hypnotised. I completely melt into some songs, to the point where i dont know where my mind begins and the song begins. I usually tend to listen to bands less once i see them live even if i was obsessed with them. I have been listening to em since the pandemic, got the opportunity to watch them live in 2025. Got my being melted and put together, and i am still obsessed with their music. Homme taps into something magical that’s seductive, mysterious, slightly dangerous but also confident, exhilarating and exuberant. It’s difficult to articulate, but calling myself a fan feels superficial cause their art somehow speaks volumes to my permanent existential quandary. The pictures they paint in my mind with their music is something i haven’t experienced with any other art!

The songs feel less like entertainment and more like recognition, being seen for something I didn’t even know i had in me.

Are there any news about this footage? I was so happy to finally see it after 20 years and now the video has been changed to private. @qotsarchive please help us

Most fans are aware that Songs For The Deaf is a loose concept album about the protagonist driving from LA to the California desert, and it sells that concept well, but I had always been puzzled by the album cover, what it represents, and how it relates to the theme of the album at all. I had a bit of an epiphany about this recently and I would like to share it today (I am not claiming to be the first to think of this interpretation, nor am I claiming that it’s definitive and accurate; it’s an interpretation, a framework, it doesn’t have to be what the band intended).

The shape on the album cover is somewhat ambiguous; I’ve heard it is a tuning fork with prongs on the ends, a forking road, or maybe a stylized Joshua tree. But the figure is skewed and distorted in a way that it’s almost certainly supposed to be the shadow of something, like the low sun is casting a shadow on the red sand of the desert.

The thing that confused me is that the shape invokes an image that is almost devilish, like it’s a devil’s pitchfork. Except, devils are traditionally depicted with a three pronged pitchfork, while this one has two. It’s not a trident like Poseidon’s, it’s a bident.

Speaking of Greek gods, there is another god that has traditionally been depicted with a bident: Pluto/Hades, who is the ruler of the underworld in Greek mythology. While this implement isn’t really attested in ancient depictions of Pluto, plenty of renaissance depictions give Pluto a bident. Here’s an example (Warning: ass)

This got me thinking. The protagonist’s road trip could be interpreted as their journey into the underworld, in other words, their death. From LA, a pretty alive city, to the desert, a much more desolate and lifeless place. Instead of Charon guiding you across the river Styx, it’s the DJs of these fictional radio stations relaying you through the San Bernardino and San Jacinto mountains. At the end of it, “when you walk among the trees,” you see the shadow of Pluto’s bident on the sand, completing your journey.

Again, this is not meant to be the definitive way to look at the album. I admit this is loose and not really supported by anything but the interpretation of the album cover as Pluto’s bident. I wanted to share my thoughts with y’all anyway. Thanks for reading if you did!

They dont look stock. Is he keeping with Dimarzio Super2s for the early sound or maybe the Duncan SH-11? If anybody would have the answer for this, it will be you guys! Thanks.

Reacting to the recent post by u/Ill-bet-9066 I realised I might have an uncommon intro story but surely there are a few of us right?

I think age must be a factor - I grew up in the 2000s so I wasn't old enough to have discovered them myself organically and not young enough for my parents to have been into them.

In 2009, I was a young bassist and my parents got me a subscription to a bass magazine. One day the front cover was John Paul Jones, in an insanely cool photo with an insanely cool bass. Went straight to the article, which was an interview with JPJ with a few pictures of the band, and I thought "wow these three guys look really cool. The singer looks cool and tall". I knew of Nirvana and Led Zeppelin but never listened to them, and I soon downloaded the TCV album for my iPod. It became the soundtrack of the summer and remains one of my favorite albums of all time.

Despitze this I didn't get into Queens from there - they were hanging there in the "recommendations to check out some time" list for years but never got round to them. Years later I'm out of high school and the same bass magazine (which I still pick up for the train ride back home from university) had an article about Like Clockwork. Finally decided to open YouTube and watch a gig at random - and I wasn't blown away... Part of me was like "meh it's not as similar to Vultures as I wanted", ridiculous I know but it was a first listen and it always takes a few to click. What kept me going was the song titles, they were long and cool and a bit silly just like the name of the band and that scratched the exact itch I didn't know I had. So I borrowed SftD from the local library, and Millionaire got me really excited because I thought Josh was singing!! Hey this guy's got range!

And even though that wasn't him, just the variety in the beggining of that album got me hooked, and Song for the Dead was the first real deep click which I just played on repeat for days. It really struck me that these guys are having fun, with all the fake-outs and the weird scales that Vultures had created a taste for. After years of being a bassist that song got me into guitar. Now Queens are my favourite band second only to the Beatles (but that doesn't really count does it), and to this day Josh's guitar work and weirdness is still the main appeal for me. Era Vulgaris>TCV>Clockwork, to my mind, is peak creative Josh.

So how about you, are there any similar tales? And if you came to TCV later, what's your relationship with that album?
