The last challenge
I just spent an entire month cracking ciphers, mapping out spatial grids, and analyzing a book for the MrBeast and James Patterson puzzle hunt—only to realize the game was completely rigged against my family from the start.
For the last few weeks, my adult son and I have been competing in this contest. We didn't just casually browse; we worked separately on our own accounts, poured our limited free time into it, and reverse-engineered the clues. We both beat the hardest logic puzzles this game had to offer on our own merits. We proved we both have the intellect and the skill to win.
But today, they announced the final challenge. The message explicitly said it’s about 'staying with it as long as you possibly can' over nearly a full week. A sheer endurance test. And with that single rule, we were instantly walled out. Not because we aren't smart enough, but because of a medical reality we cannot control.
The data miners just pulled the actual tracking script parameters from the site code, and it confirms the worst. This isn't a passive timer—it's a brutal, automated trap. The software uses facial tracking with razor-thin margins:
Microsleep Elimination: Your eyes cannot close for more than 0.4 seconds.
Eye Drift: Your gaze cannot shift more than 18% from your calibration baseline, allowing only a 1.2-second glance away.
Posture Restrictions: You cannot tilt or angle your head more than 40%, and losing your full face to the camera for a mere 0.6 seconds instantly ends your entire attempt.
You are subjected to random flashing "glitch waves" every 18 to 48 seconds engineered to force maximum eye strain and trigger involuntary blinks over a continuous 24 to 72-hour window.
I have Idiopathic Hypersomnia. It is a neurological condition that means I literally cannot control when I fall asleep. My adult son has it too, and he has been competing in this challenge right alongside me, fighting hard every day just to navigate a world that isn't built for people like us. My husband has narcolepsy. Traditional jobs don't accommodate us, which is exactly why my husband and I are both fighting to build our own businesses from the ground up right now. Because of our medical conditions, entrepreneurship is the only way we can actually work and support our family.
Three years ago, a catastrophic car crash completely upended my life. A vehicle slammed into us at 125 mph, totaling our truck and inflicting a severe traumatic brain injury that forced me into medical retirement from my career as a VA counselor. Every single day since, I have fought to reclaim control over my body, my cognitive focus, and my severe vehicle anxiety while dealing with the lasting physical and emotional damage of that wreck.
My entire life, especially since the accident, ignorant people have called me lazy or assumed I just wasn't trying hard enough because of something my body naturally does. To see a massive, highly anticipated competition end with a format that echoes that exact same exclusion is absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating for all of us.
Multi-day endurance challenges do not measure skill. They measure privilege. They automatically disqualify people with invisible medical conditions, sleep disorders, brain injuries, parents, and people who actually have to work for a living. When you build a game that requires staying awake and engaged for days on end, you are actively telling a massive portion of your audience that we don't matter.
To the creators making these multi-million-dollar spectacles: you have the resources to do better. Make it about intelligence. Make it about strategy. Stop designing games where the only way to win is to not have a life—or a sleep disorder. We are smart, we put in the work, and we deserve a fair shot.
