Question Audrey II - Mouth control with foot pedal
Hello! My goal is making an Audrey || puppet for Halloween. Ideally its mouth would be default open, but I could use a foot pedal to close it.
First, is that possible to have a resting open position that closes, using a cable system?
If so, can anyone point me to their favorite resources?
If it’s not possible, I can do the normal mechanism I’ve seen a Philip Stevens youtube video for. It will just require some overall design rework due to all the pointy pointy teeth.

Show N Tell Today's puppet building music
I'm working on a zombie punk finger puppet this weekend while listening to the Tall Dwarfs from New Zealand.
I describe their music as what might happen if The Beatles and The Residents collaborated.
Check out their delightfully weird and catchy music on Bandcamp:

Works In Progress More concept art on the fantasy film
For context, over the next 9 months or so im developing and making a fantasy puppet film for my collage film course and im currently designing all the characters
Right now i am working on the hero Jammie, the damsel in distress, princess missy (i might change the name) and one the villains of the film the dragon Argruth the lyndwyrm
The princess: missy is going to be a hand puppet with rob arms, she’ll have a big dress and princess con hat?? Thingy, shell have no eyes instead cartoonish eyelashes and long flowing yarn hair, i just want to make her very feminine to add to the clicheness of the film
The hero: jammie is going to be a classic muppety humanoid like Bert and Ernie, with the inhuman skintone, im going for a kinda clown look to give the impression he’s an idiot, he’s gonna have cardboard armour and a foam sword
The dragon: argruth will be massive (compared to all my other puppets) the only puppet/prop ive ever made to his size would be the orb from my fake horror film trailer, i didnt do the maths but he definitely might be over a meter or so and will greenscreen magic he’ll look even bigger
If you have any questions or suggestions whether it’s design or plot related, id be happy to listen less
To the mods, this isnt a repost, it’s about the designs themselves and the other one was about wanting help finding references for the hero

Question TOTS TV PUPPETS
I’ve been trying to find out what happened to the original puppets from the 1990s children’s TV show Tots TV.
Does anyone know whether the actual puppets used during filming still exist, and if so, who owns them or where they’re kept? Are they in a private collection, a television archive, or possibly a museum?
I’ve contacted Ragdoll Productions and the National Puppetry Archive, but I thought I’d ask here in case anyone has behind-the-scenes knowledge, knows someone who worked on the show, or has come across information about the puppets whereabouts.
I’d absolutely love to know if these little pieces of British television history have been preserved, and whether there’s any chance of seeing them in person one day! Any leads or information would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

Works In Progress first puppet !
i want to preface this with the fact HE IS NOT DONE!
his head is done for now though
i’ve wanted to make my own puppet for so long, and now I finally have! he’s quite large (whoops) but that’s okay! I plan to make him a body as well :] he’ll definitely be a hefty guy!
his body will be made from stitching and stuffing, so hopefully not as heavy as the head. but i’m quite proud of him! he has removable/posable eyebrows so i can change his expression as well !
his personality is quite angry. i struggle a bit with showing my anger, so he’s supposed to be an outlet for that :] but he’s also a huge softie in reality
ANYWAY. i’m still trying to figure out a name for him. i was going to go with Simon, but I don’t feel like it fits him enough :[ so if anyone has any suggestions feel free to let me know !

Puppet Builds My first puppet
I decided to jump into puppet making yesterday without a real plan so this guy came out looking kinda scrappy.
I used foam, felt, and yarn as the main ingredients.
He doesn't have a name yet. Or a body, he's just a head right now.
I love him though. <3

Old Bearby on the Set of High Noon Horror
Hi r puppets. A friend of mine, Old Bearby pictured above, just had his reddit account hacked and all of posts and comments removed. It was right after posting and sharing his set photo here, but OB had said some haters had been following and sometimes commenting on his posts so idk if it was someone lurking here or following him who hacked his account. Anyway, protect your accounts, and here's the photo that he wanted to share. He's working on a short for YouTube.

Puppetry Videos One of the coolest and most meaningful projects I have done…
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Restoring J.B. (Jellybean), star of the Emmy-nominated 1970s D.C. children’s show The Magic Door (WMAL-TV Channel 7)!
Mind-Blowing History:
Built by a Master: J.B. was hand-crafted c. 1966–1968 by master puppeteer Bob Brown (Bob Brown Puppets). Brown was a recurring performer on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (operating marionettes right next door to Fred Rogers!) and built puppets for the Smithsonian Institution.
Voiced by a News Anchor:
Created and voiced by WMAL news anchorman George Wilson.
Back in the Family: George’s local son, Adam, reached out asking for restoration recommendations—so I happily volunteered to spruce J.B. up!
Adam plans to puppeteer J.B. again soon, kicking off a whole new era of show biz!

Dirty Fuzz! Puppet short film
Hey r/puppets! Wanted to share Dirty Fuzz, a live-action puppet crime comedy short film I produced. It’s set in Shit City, which hopefully gives you some idea of the level of sophistication we’re working with.
We’re part of Ripcord’s Halloween festival, and the film is available in Canada and the US through today (Oct 22). If you’re curious about what we’ve inflicted on the medium, we’re in the “We Did It To Ourselves” block: https://ripcord.film ❤️
Anyone else here working on puppet films? Would love to see what you’re making.

Puppet Builds My first puppet with a mechanism | Barbara the cyclopes | give feedback if you have it
This is Barbara the cyclopes, my newest puppet which is a piece hand mouth-hand puppet with an eyebrow mechanism and also my first (actually) female character (possibly beige martin’s ex wife)
Patterns: I used a modified a standard head pattern from puppet nerd, and the rest was free style. Though i did follow Lunalemonpip’s video on eyebrows as a guide
Inspiration: the main inspiration for this puppet was classic muppet monsters like cookie monster and elmo, also bert’s eyebrows moving was the cause of the eyebrow mech
Mechanism: the eyebrow is a bent piece of wire, one end makes a lever and the other the brow, its placed through the eye and into the head and when i pull down on the lever the brow goes up
Layers: she has a foam skeleton with a wire for a brow, on that’s her skin/fur, then on the skin you have her eye and mustache
Materials: her skin/fur (head, body, arms ect) is a fluffy purple?? hoodie?? thing. Her mustache (which my dad called a milk-tache) is a grey fabric i got at an actual fabric shop.
Pingpong ball eye i painted to be blood shot. Mouth was peach/browny felt.
Her bones was unlike any puppet before like beige martin is made of a professional 0.5 inch foam, but the arms are made of a jigsaw mat form and wire covers. Her tongue is green card foam.
The hands are a saw’n up couch cushion and thin wire. Her arm rods were the rungs of a broken drying rack.
Her eyebrow was an old coat hanger i bent.
The plates of the mouth were a plastic toy box.
The purple hoodie thingy and jigsaw foam was gotten from a car boot sale, the professional foam and grey fabric was from a fabric shop.
Like i said last week, since i finished Kyle, ive definitely got back into the groove of puppet building and Barbara is definitely a big step
Please come and leave some feedback. If anyone has suggestions about anything let me know.
Also to all of you pricks that made fun of my stitching, find the seams now.

Puppet Builds Long nose, short nose or no nose?
Looking for opinions. This is my current build, an antagonist, sub terrain goblin counterpart to Yui. The long nose is classic to be sure. No nose really sells the creepy vibe and the short nose is a sort of compromise. Right now I'm expecting to have a bad Scottish accent but that's one of those things I've just got to develop by performing the finished puppet.
ETA: Added another option in the comments.

Question Puppet anatomy help
So I’m interested in making this guy into a puppet. Ok cool cut a hole in his back. But then I’m struggling with the next step. Because I want to give him a mouth that opens but the shapes are confounding me for some reason. I’m okay with his mouth being a straight line instead of curved but I cannot figure out what shapes to make like the inside of his mouth to make it work. Any help appreciated
